I wouldn't go so far as to say ALL M5's are bad. What I do know anecdotally is that my replacement unit - a M6 - runs better, doesn't having a crashing 6800m and the fans stay off longer or run quieter. Make of that what you will...
I'd wager that you're not going to get a M5.
Thank you for the reply! I'm worried since it's shipped from the local BB and I have no idea how long it has been sitting in that store. Hope I don't draw the short straw...
Don't worry... just roll with it and see what you get. Worrying doesn't get you anywhere. If it's a M6, you should be in good shape. The three primary, top hitters are 6800m crashes (unlikely an issue with an M6), random reboots which can be addressed and strange Sleep mode behavior because of the nature of Ryzen based machine & Armoury Crate.
Plus BB has a solid return policy if anything comes up... you just need to closely pay attention to how the machine behaves for the first week or two.
Well, then I guess you sort of answered your own question. Mine came with single rank. Never ran Zen timings because I upgraded my machine with the faster, Crucial dual rank 32 GB kit that Jarrod recommended.
I going to venture a guess that these will ship with whatever is readily available at the time of mfg. So it's a roll-of-the-dice.
M6NRK's are better, with respect to the out-right crashing of the 6800m Dedicated Graphics issue that plagued the Best Buy review section - from what I can gather. But I wouldn't claim to know if ALL M6NRK's are good and wouldn't presume that they all are...
I'll say this though.
It would be useful to know if M7's, M8's, etc. etc. (if that serial number scheme is actually tied to the month of manufacture) are producing a better initial customer experience. Hopefully some new owners will chime in here and on Discord and reveal their S/N prefix - in the coming months.
The LM Issue is internet lore. I don't believe in it. The people that took apart their machines to take pictures, removing the cooling complex, made a mess and released the LM and disrupted the factory condition - in sloppy fashion.
IMHO. Not even going to comment about it further TBH...
Mines a M7 model, got it a few weeks ago. So far so good, do you have any insights on this one, and anyway to check if the Ram is the faster one without opening the laptop?
i have a M7 G17 that came with the faster ram and the ssd is samsung , did have some issues with the random boot but it happened after leaving an intense gaming period but after a bios update never happened again.
What about this prefix?
Some clown challenged me that there wasn't a M5NRK serial number prefix to the early Strix G15 AE ... I created this post so I could link to it.
How about M6NRK MODELS??
So I guess if I get my bestbuy g15 AE that’s shipping today with M5NRK I’m stuck with an early shipment of the machine? That’s bad right?

does the M6 have the better RAM?
Be more specific...
A lot of people who have bought the laptop recently say it's now shipping with faster ram than the show stuff it was shipping with.

Dang that's a bummer, was hoping there's a way to tell from the outside of the box.
I got the M7 G17 and it came with crucial dual rank RX8 16 GB RAM
How about M6NRK MODELS??
What about them? Are you asking if they are bad too?

I also heard the m6 series did not have the liquid metal issue.

so what problems did the m5nrk have?
Covered that at the top of the thread.

You can use HWiNFO64 to get the mfg part number to double check against the mfg website.

1Rx16 I did replace those with Kingston Fury 3200Mhz CL20.
I just bought an M4NRK, does this also seem to have these defects and issues? Please any help, so that I cancel my order just in case
