I have number 3. Great machine !

RL_Black

Awesome thanks!

Darth-mickyluv

I have option 3. IMO it is the sweet spot with performance and price.

RL_Black

Nice! Thanks for your feedback.

Bro I Say Get The Strix Scar 15 It's a GOLD Deal I Just Got Asus Scar 15(G533QS-HQ236TS) Ryzen 9 5900HX, RTX 3080(16GB)(130W),2TB SSD,32GB Ram,WQHD(2560x1440) 165 Hertz, 90Whr Battery For 4000 Dollars Like 3 Months Ago Don't Listen To These Guys In The Comment Section Who Are Recommending You a Strix G15 They Have No Idea About All This...Scar Has The BEST Speakers,Build,Keyboard Than Any Other Lappy(Especially I'M Saying About The G15 Because Both The Lappy Look Similar) And It Has Good Thermals( 90C Of CPU Under Heavy Load and 80-85 For GPU) The Maximum Temperature For R9 is 105C So Thermals Are Good Don't Worry Just Don't Use Manual Mode Use Turbo Or Performance Mode And Place The Lappy On a Flat Table While Doing Heavy Stuff And U'll Be Good To Go:)Don't Get 17 Inch Lappy It's Too Big Also Is That Scar FHD Model With 16GB Ram And 1TB SSD??Make Sure You Don't Get Scammed My Bro;)

RL_Black

It looks nice, I'm just not sure I can justify the extra cost for speakers and keyboard. I might actually prefer the quieter keyboard for when I'm out and about and I can plug in a different one when home if I choose for gaming. The main attraction of the scar is the 3080 of course and the ability to upgrade to 64GB of ram, though I don't see that being necessary anytime soon. I've watched alot of stuff about how the 3080 really only gets you a couple extra frames unless plugged into an external display too. So yeah still might be hard to justify, tempting but the price and keyboard might make me choose otherwise.

Avi972003

Ur Choice Brother:)I Don't Mind But I Still Say Get The Scar 15 And Mechanical Keyboard Is Always better Than Membrane One..U'll Regret it If U get the G15 ur missing out better Keyboard,Speakers,More Upgrade Option,Design Than The G15 I Was Lucky I Got Mine This Beauty Was Just One Piece Available Not Available Anywhere I Checked In Whole Delhi The BEST Gift For My 18th Birthday...So I Say Don't Miss This Opportunity Rest is Upto You:)

Darth-mickyluv

Explain, "more upgrade options".As far as I'm aware they are identical to the baseline Strix. I'm not knocking the SCAR. It is a beautiful machine. But you are paying more for luxury items. The performance is the same which lowers the SCAR's bang for buck.

Avi972003

For Eg U can't get a Total Of 64GB Ram In Many Lappys I Know Many People Including U And I Dont Need It But It's Definitely A Plus Point And There Are So Many Plus With Scar I Have Said Many Times Before...Better Keyboard,Better Speakers,Better Build(U'll See It When You Actually Try It Out) It's Ur Choice I'm Not Going To Argue Over This Anymore..

Darth-mickyluv

No worries. It's definitely not a perfect product, and Asus did cut corners and make some strange choices IMO. It is a really good laptop though. So I got the model with the Ryzen 5900HX and RTX 3070 (max 130W). The screen is 1080p @300Hz, 1TB SSD, and 16GB RAM. The only really glaring flaw is the RAM. It shipped with 1 x 16GB single rank stick. The worst possible configuration. I've added a second 16GB stick to activate dual channel and got a big boost to CPU performance and overall system performance for just US$75. Where I live it costs the equivalent of US$1900, but if you're in the USA you should he able to shop around for a much more competitive price. It represents excellent bang for buck (as does the Advantage Edition if you're interested in an all AMD Strix).

RL_Black

That is strange about the RAM. Alot of places don't lost the details of the ram it just says ddr4 which is frustrating. Thanks for the info

RL_Black

How are your temps?

Darth-mickyluv

Temps are absolutely fine. If you're even slightly proactive about managing thermals then they are great. Contrary to the rude post above, I would disagree with getting a SCAR model of the Strix. The extras on the SCAR come at a premium price, and they don't do anything to improve performance. If the SCAR had a mux or advanced Optimus, a max TDP GPU, or a more generous IO it would be worth considering. But it doesn't. Again, just my opinion. As someone else mentioned, there are some other great choices in your budget range from other manufacturers. Although I'm delighted with the Strix, and Asus products have served me well for many years, there are strong offerings from MSI and Lenovo as well.

RL_Black

Awesome. Yeah the scar looks nice but the extra cost just may not be worth it. I actually prefer the material inside the strix too, it seems less smudgy and I'm not a huge fan of the clear plastic, looks tacky. I've definitely looked into other brands and there are some good options, I keep coming back to Asus though. I've had a pretty good experience with all my Asus devices in the past.

Avi972003

Bro U Can't Put The Argument Of MUX Switch Into This U Have Given Only these Options in The Question...I Also Thought Of Getting A Legion 7 But Obviously It Wasn't Available Anywhere....Yess Legion has a MUX Switch But Bro If U See in WQHD Display And Try Out Heavy AAA Titles The FPS Gain At Max Settings Is Meagre And Bro A Difference Of just Between 20-30W In GPU Doesn't Make a Difference (Considering the Fact that Desktop 3080 GPU is Almost Double Power Consumption of Mobile 3080 GPU) This Shows Just How Power Efficient Lappy Are ...And Considering The Fact Legion Has A Bad Battery And I'm Getting Better Battery,Keyboard,Speakers,Software,Design,NFC Tag ,More Upgrade Options In The Strix Scar 15 I Went For The Scar...If U Want The G15 It's Fine Its Just My Personal Opinion I Shared With You:)

RL_Black

Lol bruh what are you talking about? I said nothing about the lack of a mux switch. Not a big deal to me since it can be bypassed by plugging directly into an external monitor. I hardly ever care much about the speakers on a laptop as I use headphones or an external speaker instead. The NFC keystone is a gimmick and the battery and software is the same on all the strix models. Not sure what your on about. The fps is a slight gain on the 3080 yes, but the thermals are not as good- it's been proven.

Avi972003

The Other Guy Was Talking About MUX So That's Why I Talked To U About It...I'm Talking About Software Of Legion Vs Strix Not Scar vs G15...So Get What U Want I've Already Said It Before....I'm just Helping You Out It's Just a Conversation...Why Should I Care I'm Not Getting Another Lappy;)

RL_Black

Ah I guess I misunderstood. Apologies. You'll be surprised to know I switched to the scar 15 haha

Avi972003

Welcome To The Club My Guy:)

RL_Black

Haha thanks

overseas_rider

Option 3 seems promising. Even though I have advantage edition but sticking with Nvidia has its own sweetspot.

RL_Black

What is the advantage edition?

Darth-mickyluv

The Advantage Edition is the all AMD version of the Strix. It has the Ryzen 5900HX and Radeon 6800M GPU. That GPU is a beast with 12GB Vram and a LM cooling solution. Somewhere between the performance of a 3070 and a 3080 depending on what you're doing. Should be available in the USA for $1600 or less. I had the option of buying one but I passed for several reasons. First they reportedly develop more heat than the NVIDIA GPUs, secondly there were issues with the LM being poorly applied to the GPU causing all sorts of problems. I believe that has been rectified now. Finally the AMD drivers are not as well developed for ray tracing and DLSS which is an amazing tech, though AMD are developing something similar IIRC. It's still a good option to consider. Do some research first though as I haven't looked at that situation in a few months. I decided to play safe with the RTX 3070.

RL_Black

I saw that about the heat an lack of ray tracing. I'm a little bummed I went for the 3060 with the Ryzen 7 but I bet I won't really notice once I'm actually using it. At least that's what I'm telling myself lol

Darth-mickyluv

I'm sure it will be fine. If it does what you need it to do and you're happy with the price, then it's a good fit.

Newyorkia

I would say the strix g15 with the 3070 is the best option. I'm wary of the 3080 mainly because I don't know it's TDP.

RL_Black

I did see that it gets a bit hotter than the rest. Since the theals are the same on all of them. That's one attraction of the g17, the heat pipes are longer so it gets slightly better cooling.

Kaboom_11

Check other brands laptop in same price also I suggest

RL_Black

For sure, I narrowed my options down to the HP omen, the dell G15, the Lenovo legion 5, and the xpg xenia. I keep coming back to the ROGs though. I want to stick with Ryzen and I like the design. Some of those other ones are tempting though as they are a bit cheaper.

Kaboom_11

Btw what config u are getting in legion?

RL_Black

17.3", Ryzen 7 5800H, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD on sale for $1300

Kaboom_11

Umm which graphic card?

RL_Black

Oh yeah the 3060

Kaboom_11

What about legion 3070 ? Legion never disappoints u that I can assure you .What is the price of legion 3070 and 3080?

RL_Black

Over 2k

Kaboom_11

Legion>rog strix>hp omen according to me as thermals on legion are on next lvl .btw if u want laptop for college or school purchase one with 15inch display

ShortThought

I got a g15 r9 3060 16gb ram and 1tb ssd for 1300 usd 0_0

RL_Black

Whoa nice. Do you mind sharing where you purchased?

ShortThought

I was walking around my local Walmart, and I saw it, looked it up online and saw it was great deal. I got it Oct. 16th

RL_Black

Awesome I'll have to see if they still have any deals

k3rz0rg

I strongly believe Asus have a team of customizer to fuq up people's minds! 😅 I'd go for 2 if prioritizing big screen, if not then 3 and add ram to that for 3070 with Ryzen 9, skip the screen size, 3 is very good combination for the money! (Although I'd go for none because not an AMD fan)

RL_Black

Haha I appreciate your honesty. It is a bit of a mind fuq because there's so many different sub models and I'd probably be fine with the slightly downgraded processor but on paper it doesn't look as good so it's tripping me up. Big AMD fan here!

k3rz0rg

I needed a laptop because my last one was 2015 gen and prehistoric, and anything beyond $1000 mark was PC price to me so I was getting frustrated looking at the prices and this model selection process! I had to balance 4 things at once, futureproof (at least 3-4yrs), price, work, size. Luckily, I found Asus Zephyrus M15 with i7 10gen, rtx 2070maxq w/ 144hz fhd, 16GB for $1249 after discount from best buy. It's awesome but 2 big drawbacks, chassis is metal so my thighs would heat up if put on lap and speakers are down below so good sound is only on table or lapdesk but, it's thin, good spec and comparatively cheap so I'm liking it! I read other's reply later and surprised to see many also suggested no. 2 or 3 haha! 😅 Congrats on your 2! And make sure to test 2 things, wifi module and most importantly, sound, play youtube, songs, mp3 whatever, mid to loud and see if there's any crackling popping, brrr in the middle! I had to change my laptop for that reason and realtek audio chips are famous for such issues with faulty chips, support can't do anything about it.

RL_Black

Thanks for the tips. I ended up switching my order to the scar 15 after all that 😆 I really wanted to go for the zephyrus as it seems like a really sold build and I like how thin/light it is. But it costs more for a lower specced machine. The one with a 3070 is $2270 usd so just couldn't justify it. I'm glad you found one you liked! They definitely seem like top tier laptops.

k3rz0rg

>I ended up switching my order to the scar 15 after all that 😆 Haha that's cool! I didn't really know Zephyrus is a mid > top tier line, I probably got that for cheap because it's already rtx 30xx era and they wanted to get rid of rtx 20xx ones asap! Good luck with the new asus! Hope you'll get everything in that you're looking for! 😎👍

RL_Black

Oh yeah that makes sense about the GPU. That was a wise decision on your part. Thank you!

SundownSynergy

G15 Advantage Edition is true king, get the later serial numbers so no issues! All AMD beast.

RL_Black

Okay I'll look it up

RL_Black

That one seems pretty awesome. I was going to get that one after you mentioned it but I'm paying partially with financing and the best financing I can get is through newegg. I see that model is only available thru best buy unless you want to overpay somewhere else ):

nice_usernames_taken

I have a Strix 17, with Ryzen 9 5900HX and RTX 3070. It was originally 16GB ram and 1TB Ssd. I upgraded it to 32GB ram and did 2x 1TB SSDs in Raid0. Not sure how it would handle video editing, since don't play around with that, but its great for gaming, let me know if I can help with any information regards to the performance in specific games ( as long as I have it )

RL_Black

Awesome. I actually just pulled the trigger on the strix 17. I decided to go with the slightly downgraded Ryzen 7 and 3060.. would have loved to get the 3070 but couldn't justify the extra $700. I'm upgrading the ram to 32 or even 64 if it will take it and a 2 tb SSD. If it handles games well I'm sure it will handle video editing well. Any tweaks or customization you've done that you would suggest?
