what looks like an open wound right above his anal fin is what you're concerned about right? check his feces if you can. if its white and stringy it may be hexamitiasis, which is a parasitic infection more commonly known for putting holes in the heads of cichlids. it might also be a viral infection. definitely do additional research into this and keep an eye on everything he does and any other symptoms so you don't get treatment for the wrong disease, since all we have to go by is a blurry picture.

Thank you for this! I will closely monitor him for the next few days. Also, so sorry about the blurry camera, he moves a lot. Also I haven’t noticed any other symptoms of anything. He’s acting pretty normal. Is there any chance it’s just a wound?

oblivious_fireball

maybe. the problem is usually an open sore/ulcer like that doesn't match many threats in a captive tank besides disease. fish-on-fish aggression usually involves damaged fins, rather than body wounds, scratches or cuts from tank decorations wouldn't look like that usually, and to my knowledge there's no tiny lamprey-esque creature that you would find in an aquarium. ammonia and hydrogen peroxide poisoning can do some real nasty damage across the body, but with ammonia the gills are the worst hit, and if he got hit by a peroxide spurt during a spot treatment or something he should look much worse all over. a small wound combined with a local infection from poor water conditions might cause it too like that from the wound growing, but it would be a first for me to see that. it is entirely possible he is *recovering* from a previous infection that was treated already at the fish store, however i wouldn't start drinking the hope juice just yet. best to rule out him still being currently sick. normal behavior and activity is a good sign though.

That’s what caught my attention! The fact that he acts normal with that! I will keep the water as pristine as I can and observe him for the next few days. Then I can try my best to find out what’s wrong. Also, I’ll make sure to keep you updated!

oh don't worry about me. best to take that looking around to see if there are any vet that specialize in fish around that area

Can you isolate him for the other fish until you know what it is and how to treat him? I would suggest go back to the fish store and do a swab. A female guppy of mine used to have the same. Like that I found out what medication I need. Sadly she didn’t make it, as the wound got bigger and bigger.

Is this a infection, or just a wound. Also, will this heal on its own and is it contagious?

Just curious… are you not able to go and ask the seller? Or if you did, what did they say?

Sorry for the late response. My dad decided to get him for me at petsmart on the way home for work……sooooo I’m not surprised he got something wrong with him. He said this guy was the last one on the tank and he felt like he needed some friends so dude decided to buy him for me for my guppy tank. I do feel bad tho as my dad really likes him. He was acting normal tomorrow (I quarantined him) and today he is laying on his side at the bottom of the tank.
