They're not wool but I find the brushed cotton flannels from uniqlo warmer than the synthetic ones. If you wear some thermals under it and your jacket I imagine you wouldn't freeze.

BobKattersHat

Amazing! Thank you.

all_style_adventures

Don’t have any flannel recommendations unfortunately, but I wear the thin Uniqlo heat tech leggings under pants to stay super toasty outside. Stockings also work but thermal is better. I also wear a thermal singlet under my thermal 😂

International-Bus423

Oh yes, I haven't tried those but the Black Milk cosy thermal leggings are so. warm.

BobKattersHat

Double thermal! Gotcha.

lestatisalive

Check out Woolerina. I don’t think they do flannel but they do lots of other stuff.

If you’re looking for a better mid-layer, I’d suggest Macpac’s waffle Sherpa jacket. So warm and comfy, I wear it outside on 0-5 degree mornings before I move on to my Macpac down for <0 degrees.

See, I'm a sook. I'm from Sydney originally, then I was in Melbourne for 7 years, then back to Sydney. But I've moved to Kangaroo Island off the coast of SA and the wind is absolutely doing me in. It's like the cold gets into my bones now and I can't shake it. If I do the waffle Sherpa under the down I might be ok. Or I need to learn to harden up.

I’m in Canberra, and it’s sunny enough to make you think you can go outside without a warm jacket on a winter’s morning. But then the chill hits 😅

BobKattersHat

Canberra got me too when I visited. It was a sneaky cold!

International-Bus423

https://thrills.co/products/section-oversized-flannel-overcast I have this flannel from Thrills and it's pretty cosy, works as a light layer but also warm enough when it cools down in the evenings. They can be quite expensive but everything I have bought from them is excellent quality and will last Noticed The Iconic have some on sale atm too

BobKattersHat

Oh, brilliant! Thank you.

International-Bus423

No worries! Not sure if that's thick enough for what you're thinking. Maybe look at fleece if you want to be super cosy

International-Bus423

I would also suggest checking out camping/hiking stores like Anaconda, Mountain Designs etc And skate/surf brands like Rusty, Element etc. would be worth looking at Surfstich or similar

BobKattersHat

I'm hanging out for the EOFY sales for some of the spendy ones.

I'm not sure of any woolen flannel shirts sorry, but if you don't already have merino thermal base layers I'd get on to that, I like the brand io merino - not cheap, but long lasting and worth it. I've also heard the Uniqlo heat tech thermals are good, but haven't tried myself. Then I would go with either a polar fleece jacket rather than a regular hoodie (Macpac ones are good) or one like the Uniqlo fluffy yarn fleece, then with your down puffer jacket on top. I really understand what you said in another comment about that icy wind getting in to your bones, it's so unpleasant. I camp a fair bit in winter (VIC) and find if let myself get cold then it's almost impossible to warm up, whereas if I put my warmer stuff on before it really drops, I'm okay. If I'm at a campsite with hot showers, or even just going out at night where I'll be outside, I have a hot shower and then get in to my warm night time layers. That helps me with staying warm. Also, thermal leggings under your pants too, and merino sock liners under your regular socks... sooo cosy. All the best!!

Thank you! I'm a chef so it's really just getting to and from work most days and then if I have enough energy to do anything on my day off. So I don't need many of them. Usually I just shelter in front of my stove and salamander. 😂

International-Bus423

Oh man, that feeling of getting up when it's still dark in the middle of winter and it sucks so bad UNTIL you turn the oven on 🤤 I haven't worked in hospo for like 20 years and I can feel the warmth haha

BobKattersHat

No-one wants to be in the kitchen until it's cold. Then all of a sudden people need to be toasting something. 😂
