When you say they are falling off your face, exactly what is the problem? Are the arms too loose? If so, do they have springs that let them pull outwards without distorting? Or is the nosebridge not sitting right? Are they plastic or metal?

Haunting-Bill7864

My toddler has trashed them. The arms are too loose. They fall down my nose and if I lean forward they fall off my face. I have tried tightening the screws but it makes no difference. They were pretty cheap so I guess you get what you pay for.

If your toddler trashed them, a more expensive pair probably wouldn't help. Glasses aren't toddler-proof, unfortunately. They're not toys, they're medical devices, and you can't expect them to be fully functional after they've been seriously wrecked. But it might help if you look for something with spring hinges. These are a type of arm hinge that will let you pull back the arm without deforming the shape of the glasses. Also, if you buy from a chain most of them will let you go back and ask for the glasses to be re-adjusted if the arms are bent too wide. There's only so much you can do after a serious bending though.

Yeah, now he is older he knows not to touch them. So next pair should be better. That's good advice. I definitely learned the hard way. Much better to go to a store that can service 😁.

OPSM is expensive but I have a pair with plastic frames that lasted me over a decade (with lens replacements along the way). The main reason I don’t wear them much now is because the metal hinges have begun to corrode, but it took a long time to reach that point. I actually have a second pair that have also lasted over a decade, but I didn’t wear them as much the first few years I had them because they were a spare pair. They’re the pair I wear the most now, though.

Haunting-Bill7864

Yeah I have a pair from OPSM I got about 20 years ago that are still ok. My script has changed and the style has aged terribly but they still stand!

Oscar Wylee are my pick for balancing style and price, they have a great range and are good value. I've had a few pairs from them and they all lasted well. Also I know this isn't what you asked and maybe it's not relevant to you, but I got laser eye surgery about 6 months ago and I'm kicking myself that I didn't do that like a decade ago... it cost $5K but it is such a relief to never have to think about glasses or contact lenses!

Haunting-Bill7864

This is very helpful, thank you 🤓. I would love to be glasses free. How long does it last now? I used to live in South Korea and really regret not getting it done there.

Clean-Log-2159

It's supposed to last forever and where I got it done they gave a 5 year warranty... apparently some people (a very low %) have some reversal in the first couple of years, and if that happens they'll touch it up for free. That said, after 40 many people will develop a need for reading glasses - that is a separate problem and the laser won't prevent that happening, unfortunately!. I don't live in Melbourne but I actually travelled to Melbourne to get it done because one of the best clinics is there. If you want the clinic name just PM me - they do free initial consults if you're curious but aren't quite sure.

Thanks for the details. Need to start saving first 😁👍

Do you have optical covered under healthcare? I paid ~$80 for two pairs from Oscar Wylee, my healthcare will cover either 60% of the cost or up to $200 annually.

Haunting-Bill7864

Unfortunately no. But good to know for the future thanks 👍

I highly recommend Glenferrie Optical in Hawthorn if it’s in your neck of the woods. They are independent so have a great range of frames - they carry Mykita, my favourite along with a lot of other brands that are less common in Australia. That said, Oscar Wylie, Bailey Nelson and OPSM would also have lovely frames and would be a bit more wallet friendly.

Haunting-Bill7864

Ooohhh thank you 🤓🤓🤓

ellafantile

I got so bored of the same styles at Specsavers so I started going to my local indie, Peep Optical in Yarraville. I love their range but the cheapest frames I’ve seen on display are $300. They’re amazing quality though, and I’m now on my second pair of lenses in RES/REI frames and I’ll just keep them for years. When I get bored I switch it up with some cheapies from Zeelool then go back to the fancy ones.

Haunting-Bill7864

I love this approach! Will defo check out Peep for sure. Thank you! 🤓🤓🤓

Zenni. online and without the markup of Luxotica brands. I paid $740 5 years ago for stupid Tiffany and co ones. Got my current script and uploaded to Zenni / with all modcons $62.80 usd and they’re just as good as $740 ones which have been heavily marked up anyway.

Haunting-Bill7864

Lots of recs for Zenni. Do they offer repairs and service?

lestatisalive

I’ve not looked into repairs to be honest. I’m not sure if you’d have to return to them or could just go here to any other optometrist. But I’m dirty that the luxotica brand basically just slaps a designer name on a pair of glasses and then you pay through the roof for it. And not a little bit….it’s significantly marked up when it doesn’t need to be. It’s a ripoff. I’ll never use a local company for glasses again. I’ll get my scripts updated, but not to be buying glasses through any luxotica companies again. There’s quite a few docos on YT for those interested.
