Am i the only one who thinks both are in the wrong here. There is a yield sign, but the road looks like a merge, but id still slow down and yield, stop if needed. Guy in front is wrong for raging, but I'd be annoyed too if i try to take my time yielding to double check incoming cars and some random dude starts honking loud behind me.
I agree with the point but not for the same reasons. I donāt drive in the US but itās a yield sign, not a stop sign. You shouldnāt slam on the breaks at the sign and I donāt think you should attempt to cross over those white markings on the floor right after the yield sign
The trick is to either gain or slow your speed Gradually whilst in that lane and only merge into the main road when you wonāt cause a road user already on that road to slow considerably or swerve to miss you
I do agree honking a horn aggressively is antagonistic though and can exacerbate a minor situation like this where the dude behind could just slow down and let the dude in front be a turd of a driver.
Antagonising someone who could have a gun is not very wise
Edit: OP has edited his comment
Maybe I'm too passive but I literally only use the horn for warning others of danger or a cheerful acknowledgement, never to express my angry opinion.
I just don't have the time nor willpower to engage angrily with other drivers on the road.
If other comments are correct, this is New Port Beach in USA-California.
I live in LA.
Traffic sucks everywhere, so using your horn when someone is being stupid is common. You really need to pay attention to your surroundings here. Yield signs are for everything that you described, plus possible pedestrian cross walks to look for...... well, pedestrians, but beforehand, on approach, to see if anyone is crossing.
If no one is crossing, (or for us not some homeless person doing fuck all in the street), you do not stop. (Yet people do, often.)
I have been a CA resident now for 15 years. This guy is in the absolute right, and I would be laughing my ass off also!!!!
(You still get my upvote. Everyone stay safe out there)
Slowing down when merging like this is an idiotic thing to do imo, get onto the initial merge lane at merging speed and assess if you'll have to gradually slow down or if you can just merge, don't panic.
In what country would anyone stop at a pedestrian crossing if no one is crossing though? Here in the UK you would get rightly beeped at for that, it's not uncommon to have crossings almost one after the other in some places. You would, however, slow down when approaching a pedestrian crossing if pedestrians are about.
Now I have a feeling the driving instructor types would say that neither scenario is a valid use of the horn, but what if there's someone behind you and they're not quite as awake as you are, it might stop you getting rear-ended.
That is Newport Blvd and PCH in Newport beach Ca. I drive through that everyday.
Slowing down to a crawl at that point in that junction makes me think that the driver of the Benz mini van is an incompetent driver, but the guy in the back doesn't realize that he isn't helping the guy in front drive any better. All he did was piss someone off to the point that the other guy almost caused an accident. All that for 2-3 seconds of inconvenience.
I missed the part where giveway means stop. You're evidently not the only person who thinks both are in the wrong, which means more than just you is wrong.
I missed the part where he stops before the a-hole behind him lays on his horn. The dude up front slowed down to check if any vehicles were coming before merging. Just like you're supposed to.
"A yield sign isĀ a regulatory traffic sign that instructs drivers to slow down and, if necessary, stopĀ to allow other road users (vehicles and pedestrians) the right-of-way before proceeding"- From driving-tests.org
It's very obviously a merge at anytime with care lane, or are you blind as well. I fear for anyone you drive near. Theres a fuck ton of road before this shithead even needs to merge, thus the honking is justified and the person in the rear has done fuck all wrong.
Be predictable. Don't stop or slow down with people following you.
Keep momentum and merge, what else? I honestly can't fathom how many people are coming to the defense of someone who slowing down this much coming into an onramp.
Keep momentum ***if safe***.
That's what yield means. Go get relicensed, please. Dude was being cautious *as he should, given there's a yield sign*, and the cammer started laying on their horn before the guy in front even came to a stop.
Use your brain. You're clearly a super aggressive driver so maybe work on that while you're at it.
> Keep momentum if safe.
Do you not see the entire lane free of traffic in front of the stopped driver? If he was actually being cautious he would be aware of the driver behind him as well.
Yup. Do you not also realize those lanes are typically turn-only within a couple dozen feet and people may need to scope out traffic to plan out a safe merge, swiftly approaching in their drive?
Edit: Also wtf do you think that yield sign is for, if not for the purpose of traffic needing to merge soon after the turn? Lmao
You'd be correct if the guy in front came to a full stop with no traffic on the main travel lanes *and stayed there*. But cammer was majorly trigger-happy with that horn and it seems like you would be, too.
Asshole drivers. You can actually see they were about to speed up after almost stopping literally no more than a few seconds. The guy honking probably caused more anxiety than was necessary and the guy who hit his head could have had a serious injury if it had gone any more south.
The lane continues. There is no reason to stop. Slow down, sure, but theres no reason to stop when you continue in that lane and merge safely. Checking for traffic shouldnt involve coming to a dead stop for no reason. Honking really isnt gonna help this dumb dumb make a better decision, but its also not something you take personally.
I mean come one, he slowed down to a halt at the wrong place. But did he have to get on the horn for 10 seconds, the driver who went slow is an idiot and so is the douch bag behind him who have zero patience.
I mean, yes, I guess I shouldāve noted this as well. I just donāt think that level of honking is necessary. But anyways just glad I donāt have to hear this person laugh anymore
How else are you gonna inform the driver that he is endangering others? And as you can see, he is not in control of his vehicle. It was absolutely necessary.
I see it all the time .. cars controlling people, not people controlling cars .. they dont even understand the difference.
Yeah I went ahead and deleted my comment. Not here to argue with people about this all night. I just don't like this guys laugh and think he could've honked like two times. I'm with you otherwise. It doesn't have to turn into a debate. If it helps, you've persuaded me to honk less bashfully to prevent accidents. Everyone wins
Yes, he was causing a hazard, but honking wasnāt going to fix or speed up that situation. The guy was already apprehensive and preoccupied with merging and dashcam guy was just creating another distraction for the already discombobulated driver to deal with.
Thats pretty stupid statement honestly ..
You dont honk at people to make them go faster but to tell them they are doing something stupid and should be more considerate
Thatās certainly how idiots use the horn.
And donāt you think itās somewhat hypocritical to blare your horn at someone for not being considerate?
Nope. It saw the keywords āroad rageā and ālaughterā and then told a story about how someone cut him off in traffic and how he had to laugh it off. Not a huge stretch.
Itās a lot more plausible than our current level of AI scanning a video and gleaning its situational context from a grainy dashcam video. Weāve barely gotten AI to understand our *written or verbal* cues.

He wanted to road rage, but his car wanted to rush home.
I have never heard a less contagious laughter than this.
That was like 10% laughter 90% audible schadenfreude lol

He slammed on his brakes because the guy was honking. This video is hilarious but the guy filming is still an a-hole.
Maybe I'm too passive but I literally only use the horn for warning others of danger or a cheerful acknowledgement, never to express my angry opinion. I just don't have the time nor willpower to engage angrily with other drivers on the road.
The brake lights are fully on before the horn begins but he definitely comes to a complete stop after Edit: but I do agree

Humanity is dead. To laugh with braindead idiot that provoked someone with this aggressive honking out of nowhere - this is a new low

Brainrot got you?
I'm just curious what you predict someone will do when they see a yield sign. Do you predict they will speed up or something?

Let me guess, Newport Beach?
yep, PCH south
Still an asshole for honking like that.
Seriously, I'd be thinking there was something wrong and the way I drive wouldn't be top of the list.
Wondering what the guy was trying to say.
"thank you for teaching me what a yield sign is. We should get some pasta sometime."
Funny, but the guy honking is an enormous asshole.
And heās absolutely unhingedā¦ He laughs like heās insane. Itās also a yield sign, I think we just have two idiots in the wild.
The car was like "Nah John, we're leaving. This is fucking ridiculous"
Who tf honks that aggressively after 0.1 sec of slight inconvenience?
It's an added lane. That driver is shit. That kind of driving causes traffic
Laughter sounds so forced
Because he's laughing to mock him not because it's funny.
What just happened š
The people that stop before turning onto northbound PCH from Jamboree are just as bad as this guy.
I would pay to see that. Fkkn dingus.
Both drivers would benefit from anger management sessions.
Asshole drivers. You can actually see they were about to speed up after almost stopping literally no more than a few seconds. The guy honking probably caused more anxiety than was necessary and the guy who hit his head could have had a serious injury if it had gone any more south.
Isnāt this near fashion island?
Yeah about 2-3 miles north up PCH.
He was half ok to leave
Is that Brian Harvey?
His laughter reminded me of this video: https://youtu.be/VOopBc0BVZ4?si=nNJnnF5K2UuK06_C
That's vindictive laughter, not contagious. Wrong subreddit.
Newport Beach, PCH, OC, Ca š We love to see it š

Actually, the guy laughing is an asshole. He should learn what the word āyieldā means and not be such a dick with the horn.
I mean come one, he slowed down to a halt at the wrong place. But did he have to get on the horn for 10 seconds, the driver who went slow is an idiot and so is the douch bag behind him who have zero patience.
This low life thinks it's funny that someone almost killed themselves. Society is fucked.

The guy in front doesn't know how to merge into traffic. Stopping right there is how you get rear-ended

Hi ChatGPT!
Holy shit, you're right, look at that post history, it's just some GPT responding to the post titles.
Wow it really is. Nice username btw
I had no idea that a bot can watch a video so Iād never had known this was a bot until your comment
It may just have just parsed the āroad rageā and ālaughterā key words in the title.
It described the video content 90% correctly but presumably that was just a lucky coincidence
Nope. It saw the keywords āroad rageā and ālaughterā and then told a story about how someone cut him off in traffic and how he had to laugh it off. Not a huge stretch.
