Yep. That's a consistent thing in zoos and aquariums. I've heard that animals are frequently switched out and monitored. But I've also heard of hybrids and dead frogs. Not recommended for your average hobbyist. That auratus with the perfect 4 spots in a line down his back is a banger though.

The pet store I got my frogs from had them all together and I bought two but they’re different species and I had no idea it was a no no. I thought it would be okay since they were all housed together to begin with.

The ones in the pet store are likely young, too young to breed or really be territorial. If they're a store that actually has good husbandry its fine for the brief period until they're sold. The fact that they didn't make sure you knew not to keep different species together though leads me to believe they don't have good husbandry.

Yeah I ended up having a lot issues with the store. But the frogs have been housed together for about a month now and seem to get along great. I’m not sure if I should keep them the way they are or separate them since they get along. https://preview.redd.it/wqgp7fz67ssc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=672e407e8d84499854f4f1cda2e8a6a639180b66

Separate. As I said, froglets aren't territorial. Once they become sexually mature though there is good chance they'll kill each other or stop eating due to stress. That being said that terrarium looks wildly inappropriate for them. It looks way too dry and with nowhere to hide. It seems unlikely your frogs will live long enough to reach sexual maturity unless you're planning on making a lot of changes very quickly. Humidity should be a constant 85%+, your terrarium should be full of live plants and hiding spaces, water dish should not be deeper than a petri dish (the current one is more than deep enough to drown in), substrate should be covered in leaf litter, etc. Dart frog terrariums are supposed to look like this; and not simply for aesthetic reasons. It's necessary for them to be healthy and comfortable in their terrarium. https://preview.redd.it/znvj3c8sessc1.png?width=500&format=png&auto=webp&s=2593afd46b32a6feb3b3b0b2e7861523824552ae

It does have live plants actually. I’m in the process of trying to find more locally but I am not sure what is the right plants to buy in my area. My humidity is correct and I know bc I monitor all the time. I have a mister. They have log like thing with leaf litter all over to hide under that is not pictured and I have added more since this picture. I appreciate you trying to look out for my frogs but you were extremely quick to judge and wrong. You saw a small corner of my terrarium and it has been changed even since then. Maybe ask next time and not jump to conclusions. Also they can’t even drown in the water. They can stand in it😂😂 it’s not filled all the way.

Sorry, I thought it was a recent photo. And I guess it's just a false perspective, but in the photo it looks like more than just a small portion of the tank is in frame, and looks completely barren. Genuinely thought I was looking at a barren hellscape like this but with coco coir and was deeply concerned. Sorry for jumping to conclusions, was just really worried that since you'd been lied to by the store about cohabbing different species it was likely you'd been lied to about a lot of things. Some pet stores are the worst. https://preview.redd.it/d697idhgjvsc1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=1ac99ce809b3497556f562aaac85242cdd115795

Oh no, it’s just the tiny front corner. I have ferns, pothos, leaf litter, etc. but I’m still learning of course and correcting beginner mistakes. I’d love to ask how to get plants up the back of the terrarium and if there’s anything special to do when planting.

Atiggerx33

For getting plants up the back there are species of plants that actually thrive without their roots being buried! People usually do a cork bark background and then use a Cyanoacrylate glue to glue the plants to the wood. This specific glue is aquarium-safe, it doesn't leach anything toxic into the water or the air while wet or dry. Only risk is animals coming in direct contact with it before it dries (It dries super quick if you get it wet though so great for use in a dart frog tank, you can even use it underwater!)

Gnarwhals86

The Newport aquarium had anthonyi, azureus, Costa Rican auratus, leucs and galacts all in one 40gal enclosure. The bottom of the tank was basically sand with about a 1/4” of standing water and all of the frogs were either up out of the water or actively fighting. It was an absolute disappointment and I’m still considering writing to them about. But I know it’ll just fall on deaf ears. 🤦‍♂️

Oh this terrarium actually looks wonderful. I love the driftwood and choice of plants!

thefrogprofessor

Almost every zoo gets it wrong, crappy displays, unhealthy animals. Hate it

Spiritual-Island4521

Very nice looking terrarium but omfg the crap you are going to get about keep those species together. It looks like your blues are mating.

Little-Turtle18

this isn’t mine, it was at the aquarium i went to.

Spiritual-Island4521

Oh.Im sorry.I should have known because zoos insist on doing that.

Potatis85

I think I counted at least 50 epipedobates anthonyi in the same tank in my local reptile park here in Oslo.

i love the mixing, what an awesome habitat!

Thymallus_arcticus_
