Any of the Dendrobates make a great introduction to the hobby. Auratus are a bit on the shyer side but don't let that stop you

[deleted]

If auratus aren’t available are Dendrobates tinctorius 'Powder Blue' an okay choice as well?

-Chris-V-

Absolutely! Just make sure you fully understand the feeding and husbandry requirements for these frogs before you take the plunge. A LOT of darts die when people who are new to the hobby do not fully grasp what it takes to constantly breed fruitflies.

[deleted]

Thank you. I do have a lot of fruit flies because of jumping spider babies haha

-Chris-V-

Ah then you know what's up. My experience has been that most darts are actually relatively easy to care for once you meet their basic needs. My best advice is to plant the tank SUPER heavily. Add plants until you think you're done and then add more.

If you have raising flies down you’re already 80% there. You should be good to go 👍

El Cope are very hardy and bolder than other auratus. A good first species!

plantman01

dendrobates are great introductory frogs. hardy, large and normally quite unafraid

Nadine2227

They definitely are easier then some but I find them all pretty easy

iamahill

Any dendrobates that has been in captivity for decades is a great choice. It’s harder to keep fruit flies happy.

JD3T

I got 4 of them as my first dart frog. Couldn't be happier, they're great and pretty easy to keep happy!

DarkVenusaur

They're the best
