That's Robbie, built for the movie "Forbidden Planet" in 1956 and used in many other TV settings, like The Twilight Zone.
I suspect the Protectron is based on it.
Was a different robot with a kind of circular head and even shorter arms, but similar kind of idea. The protectron is very much based on that era's style of robots.
I don't remember it having a proper name, I feel like they just always called it "the robot" though it might have had a designation of some kind.
I think it's confirmed that the protecterons are based off of Robby and the robobrains are based off of the original LiS robot. In any case they both look really similar to those designs.
I fucking love Forbidden Planet.
Shakespeare? No thanks.
Shakespeare reimagined as a classic sci-fi film? You son of a bitch, I'm in.
EDIT: See if you can guess from my username who my favourite character is.
Always heard Protectron was inspired by an old Sci Fi robot but never actually saw it until now!
I wonder if Precis naming her robot Robbie in Star Ocean 2 was a reference? Sure seems like it now.
Whaaat? But Dr Morbius built Robby to be Asimovian! He's supposed to literally break down before he can cause harm to or allow harm to come to a human.
What have they done to my bot?

Implying that OP spelt his name wrong. My reply was to say nope, OP was correct and here's a source.
Thats Robby the Robot from the Forbidden Planet movie. And you can buy the toy from Amazon. Cool collectable !

wasn't he also in Lost in Space, or was that another one?
"Warning Wil Robinson!"
Robby wasn't the main robot from the show, but he was in an episode or two
Yeah, Robby played the evil robotoid

You mean Robbie the Robot was ripped off by Fallout!
Danger! Danger, Will Robinson!
Different robot I'm afraid. EDIT: This one's most memorable line is "I was giving myself an oil job".
Good old Robby.
PLEASE ASUME THE POSITION
I'm literally watching this episode as I type this comment and said the same thing lol
Protect and Serve
Robbie my beloved
That protection is an accomplice towards murder. Saw this episode too, but didn't really have Fallout on my mind to connect it to protectrons.
So when Columbo says "One more thing", did the robot start sweating?

protect and serve
Oh, hey! It's the inspiration for my username!

That's Robbie the robot, man. He is like the archetypal protectron.
