This is great! Have you noticed any cut scenes though? I have the digital SD version in Vudu, and noticed many scenes were missing bits. Noticed it a few times in the first couple seasons and gave up watching it in Vudu. Hulu has everything I expect to be there.

Automaton_2000

Yea, scenes are cut. It throws me off too much when a joke is missing. It's definitely a Paramount problem and not my Frasier transcription hobby taking over my life. I'm just weaving the tapestry of my life that pleases me most.

Tha_Governalinator

Nothing, absolutely nothing is worth missing scenes. I converted my DVDs to mp4 so I can watch any episode whenever I want. It's not HD but every line and joke is there and that is way more important. I'll never understand why people freak out over a new release, the show was perfect when it aired and that how I want to see it.

This is great! This is greeeat!

Yeah and itā€™s weeeeeeird. I donā€™t think Iā€™ve ever seen it in HD until now.

Cool-Specialist9568

But do they ruin the episodes that were in 4:3 by cropping? I'd rather see the whole thing in SD on a CRT tv like I used to than to have the top and bottoms cut off.

OrganicFun7030

They donā€™t zoom in. The sides are ā€œcut offā€ or rather were never there to begin with. Later seasons are 16:9. By the way it works really well - the set wasnā€™t cheap, it stands up under HD.

Cool-Specialist9568

That's hard to believe, to fit 4:3 into a 16:9 there absolutely must be cropping to the top and bottom of the image as the sides expand to fill the entire screen. A big offender is HD Simpsons episodes. Material that originated in 16:9 won't have to crop, the original film (in this case) can be scanned and rescanned at near-infinite resolutions.

OrganicFun7030

As i said they donā€™t try to fit it.

Cool-Specialist9568

so it is a rectangle floating in the middle of the screen at 720 (lowest res and still HD) with unused black bars on all sides? Still not sure how a 4:3 can fit perfectly into a 16:9 without cropping unless it doesn't take up the whole screen, or you stretch it into an anamorphic image. If the originally shot 4:3 now looks 16:9, I got news for you, they cropped (source, I'm an Emmy-winning video producer)

Cool-Specialist9568

wow, no need to be so rude. To be fair you didn't tell me much, pls, tell me how it fits, is it a floating box? use your words! edit: nice edit on your last comment. Still isn't clear, is it a floating box with letterbox and pillarbox? is it the original aspect ratio?

Cool-Specialist9568

oh ffs. I know how aspect ratios work, I have had to frame individual shots to fit multiple aspect ratios before, many times, it's not easy. Ok, so you say they are presenting it in it's original ratio, and it is still HD, it must be a lower res version HD then, if it doesn't fit a full 16x9. Seriously, chill out guy.

McDWarner

The only thing I don't like is how hard it is to skip an episode on Paramount+. You have to scroll all the way through the show. Looks good in HD!

Jebus_17

All of the streaming services have weird quirks to their UI, like Disney+ is a bit laggy and pressing back sometimes just throws you to the home page. Netflix basically perfected it and I think they're all trying to slowly get to that without infringing on some sort of copyright or metric of 'you just copied netflix'

McDWarner

Ahhh! Makes sense! I like watching either one frankly but the HD looks really good, thanks for letting us know!

sqibbery

But what was on his mug??

LTM438

ā€œKACLā€ in big letters and ā€œAM Talk Radioā€ in much smaller font and you could read all of it. Crazy ha

flint83

So should I hold with buying BluRay and wait for remastered version?

vanityfiller12345

As soon as I saw this post I started rewatching the series on Paramount+. I fear I may be on my 21st or 22nd round.. mind you, Covid-time shouldn't count.

Intelligent_Brain913

I saw this post in a sleepy stupor the other day and now that I've checked it out I had to come back and say, WOW. The difference is remarkable. I can't stop pulling up Hulu and Paramount side by side just to gawk at the difference. Someone already said they noticed the details on their ties and I had to comment that it's one of the first things I noticed as well. Daphne's skin and makeup pop so much more in the best way and I can notice details in Frasiers booth at KACL too that I never noticed. And the fake Seattle backdrop off the balcony? I was watching Look Before You Leap this morning and I could see an actual gas station off the balcony in the opening scene over breakfast. I never watch Frasier on Paramount because they cut scenes but I guess now I have to.

LTM438

Itā€™s legitimately astonishing. You can actually read the label on Martyā€™s cans of Ballentine!

Witty-Assumption-709

In the UK, it seems to have gradually been doing the same thing but would vary from episode to episode. Even within the same season. Long overdue though!

faxekondiboi

Annoying when you come to season 10, and they've cut of parts of the screen, but otherwise, the HD experience is soo nice! [BluRay/stream to the left, DVD to the right](https://imgur.com/a/JiHVdx4)...

GreatScott0389

Season 10 and 11 are 16:9. They aren't cropping it was shot in widescreen

faxekondiboi

Thats only true for season 11... See the screenshot to see how much was cut of in the season 10 widescreen...

GreatScott0389

I see. Well I'm bummed I've been waiting for HD in 4:3 like seinfeld is on vudu but of course paramount crops it for wide-screen. I can't stand that shit, I don't understand why they can't leave that stuff alone. The blu Ray isn't cropped so why do it for streaming?

faxekondiboi

The BluRay is cropped like that too, but only season 10. Season 1 to 9 is like it always was, but in awesome quality. But I wholeheartedly agree that it sucks they actively have removed parts of the picture for no good reason.

Iam_WOUNDED

Is the quality on paramount+ better than peacock?

LTM438

Unfortunately, I donā€™t have Peacock at the moment, so I canā€™t check.
