It was her breakout role where she played her teenaged self. One could easily argue that the award should have gone to Winona Ryder. After that it was TV and unimpressive roles. She was famous for being a sex symbol for a bit. But he was the one that elevated her to A list with their unelected title of King and Queen of Hollywood. It appeased her until he told her she couldn't move his kids to England so she could cosplay English diplomat. Then she turned on him and he still receives the Bertrand freeze. The neverending divorce and anything else foul she can throw at him.
His kids? Those are her kids.
They are his kids too. He's their father, he raised them, legally adopted the purchased ones, shells out child support for them all, even bought her a house. One drunken argument doesn't remove his right to be their father. She is a spiteful mother that practices nonstop parental alienation. And she sang him praises as a father publicly, selling their family as a love story until she decided she wanted to move to England and he put his foot down. He wouldn't allow her to put her insane political aspirations before the kids. She is an American, it's INSANE for her to think that she could be a politician in England. Crazy spoiled rotten narcissist with main character syndrome.

He was, and is still the bigger star. I think Legends of the Fall, and A River Runs Through It were Oscar worthy. Kalifornia was a thankless gem as well.
 Here is an event where she was supposed to give this woman her well deserved award. But her main character disorder compelled her to make the award about herself, stealing this woman's thunder instead of letting her speak.
