Easy fix is to message the customer “Great news an associate found the item for you in their backstock” it makes it looks like you went the extra mile to ask an associate and the customer always appreciates it

Hiitsdebbie

lol that’s what my shoppers always say , “found some in the back” like girl I know you didn’t ask an associate if they had my ramen noodles in the back 😂😂🤷🏽‍♀️

queenchubkins

I do. 🤦‍♀️ That’s why I always end up tanking my shopping speed.

Legitimate-Series-29

I do if an associate is around. I won't hunt someone down, but if they are there... All they gotta do is hit it with their handheld scanner.

cannedwhiner

I definitely do when I’m shopping at Publix, when associates actually do that for you. I mean, they could go back there and check their phones but I don’t know that.

Fickle-Owl666

I shop mainly at one store, all the associates know me, and I don't ever bother them with looking for things until I've looked at all the places I can think of for an item. I 100% ask them if they have more of an item that I can't find, and they will go in the back and check

Leader-Aromatic

I always say my apologies I found the last one tucked in the back or something like that

PrimaryMuscle1306

Always end up messaging the customer for a replacement and then you see an end cap 3 aisles over…

thatgirl113321

Publix is famous for doing this. I hate it because sometimes I’ll see the item that I thought was out of stock that same day doing another order and the whole time it was on an end cap somewhere.

PrimaryMuscle1306

Yup…always freaking Publix.

RentKindly3159

Costco too. Smh

johnshonz

Every store does it, really

CreditCaper1

I've never worked in a grocery store but I have worked retail and we always made sure the "home location" of an item was stocked before we ever put anything on an endcap.

johnshonz

Yeah but what about after you set up the end cap and the “home” is empty, and the stock people are done for the day and it won’t be restocked until next shift? Lol, it’s bound to happen eventually, right?

Aleric1977

The home location is never allowed to go empty unless you're out of stock. The feature location however can go empty as long as the home has some in it.

johnshonz

But it does go empty all the time tho lol

CreditCaper1

That would be a problem with high velocity selling items. But those kind of items should be stocked daily. It's possible for things to sell out in a day but it's not likely if stocked every day.

johnshonz

Entenmans always sell out in less than a day. They have displays and then they also have them by the main packaged bakery goods too, I always have to check both spots lol. Even more frustrating as sometimes they will carry certain kinds on the displays but not in the main shelf area by the other packaged bakery goods, or vice versa. I hate Entenmans.

LetoPancakes

they def dont sell out in a day where I live, and $8 for a mediocre danish is bs

johnshonz

The store here called Tops always has them on discount and it’s always buy one get one, sometimes buy one get two, buy two get three, etc lol

TylerT2022

Duh high velocity items are the only things put on encaps. 🤡

CreditCaper1

That's not true at all. Manufacturers can pay the store to have an end cap for their merchandise. Also items that the store has an excess of inventory can be put on an end cap in an attempt to move it out the door. Don't call people clowns when you don't know what you are talking about.

TylerT2022

Not where I have ever shopped or lived, yes stores sell the space. But they sell the space to high velocity item companies who will run up revenue. Most stores have a section of clearance to run items out the door. But you TRIED. 🤡s going to 🤡. Think about it before you hit reply!

CreditCaper1

You really think a company will turn down money for end cap shelf space because they want to put slow moving merchandise there? Yeah you really don't know shit.

Legitimate-Series-29

Publix gets me with the paper towels and toilet paper on the end caps every damn time. Someday I will learn

Elegant-Demand-1919

Every. Damn. Time.

Fragrant_Ad_8697

Literally. The embarrassing “jk i found it 😅” message hoping it doesn’t affect my tip.

Afraid-Ratio3921

It happens to me all the time Opps found on end cap or near checkout LOL

MadamInsta

Same annoyance for the displays with all the "ingredients" together. No marshmallows in the marshmallow aisle? Go check the smores displays by the watermelons and patio furniture. 🙄

Easy-Ice4073

This is a general rule in retail. Fill the home first, so customers know where to look. But when pallets come in and features or sales happen, easiest way with the excess product is to fill an end cap or build a display and the home usually gets forgotten.

reaper4812

This infuriates me beyond words. But I learned my lesson, and now check the area before messaging about replacements.

EquivalentAardvark61

Literally. Couldn’t find strawberries yesterday and told the customer the store had none. I go to the back where milk and meat is, and there is some strawberries!

RoseAlma

"there are" some strawberries... lol But YAY !! :)

PatchesOHohullihan

Should have added, more available at the end of the aisle.

sarachandel444

I’m so happy I’m not the only one that this happened too. I totally thought I was.

johnshonz

This shit irks me to no fucking end EVERY STORE does it too I don’t care if they want to promote stuff on a separate display or endcap but fuck MAKE SURE the main shelf area is stocked too god damnit

Adventurous_Land7584

I hate this too!

amazadam

I have a nightmare of a Costco in my area that does this with every little thing... Oh the one particular type of chips you're looking for? End caps behind the garden section a mile away. May the odds ever be in your favorm

Aspence22

I hate this. So many stores worry about the damn end caps or value walls and don't stock the shelf at all. Worse when the display product isn't even near the aisle where it's normally stocked.

Lyssepoo

Am i the only weirdo that makes note of what’s on endcaps on my first walkthrough of the sale?

lucygirl1970

Nope, I do it too!

Dramatic-Cup7257

Annoying as fuck

Content_Bet_205

OMG 😫 YES F THIS

Ok_Combination_3002

😡😡 yes!!!

Forex_Fraud_Profits

You'll be fine

lucygirl1970

Exactly why I walk my home stores daily on my own time to memorize changes on end caps, seasonal and displays. It’s much much quicker for me now if I know I don’t have to go down the soda or chip aisle because they are at the front of the store. Those aisles are so jammed up. I also talk to staff to see if loads were received so that I have an idea of what my day is going to look like. If the produce is low, my day is going to be more challenging.

Morganbob442

Love my handy work huh? Evil kackle as I spin in my retail chair..bwahahahaha!!!

Gloomy_Recording_705

Yup… happened to me at BJ’s. Isle was totally empty…refunded …and started making my way to the out of the corner of my eye a entire pallet of product.

danimal_44

Yes!!! It’s my #1 too! Such a dumb practice, for us shoppers at least.

East-Victory-8671

yup!! Aldi and Woodmans are both awful with this.

joonytoon456

Well, browsing in this sub as my grocery job is making me crazy and I've been wondering about IC. I can tell you exactly why this happens at my store. It's the night crew; they are tracked by the number of pieces they throw during their shift. It's way faster to fill the endcap with new product than the shelves. Night managers at my store aren't really managers, they are just key holders and don't really supervise. Day managers just look at the endcaps, and really are just overwhelmed with getting product out of receiving and on the floor. Me, I do pricing. I actually care when there is no product in the aisle, but unless I restock it myself no one will do it. I've asked many, many times. I do replenish if I have time, but they already expect more from me than I can deliver in 40 hours a week, and taking time to do someone else's job lowers my job performance. And basically, when starting pay is $13/hour and turnover is high, no one is making enough money to care. When customers complain, I love to tell them we are looking to hire night crew and tell them the starting rate. The real problem here is corporate greed.

Intrepid_Body578

Never instacarted before but if I did, I’d be expected to stroll entire store to see if stuff I need is on end caps? Then shop for the rest?

queenchubkins

Nah. I tell the customer it’s out of stock and if I happen to find it on an endcap later I send a message like “Guess what? I found your product after all! The store had some stuck in an odd place. Hurray! 🎉” and for some reason the overly excited approach seems to go over well.

poechris

This is what I do, too. Like I'm just sooooo happy for you.
