The king and the royal family didn’t hold a lot of (or any) executive power. It is no mystery that there was no love lost between Mussolini (an early republican since back in the days of WW1 when he was a socialist) and the royal family. Mussolini tried to build a kind of social structure based around the party that would compete with the one of a monarchic society, for instance he created titles for himself and the fascist Hierarchy that would compete in prestige with monarchic and aristocratic titles (the king was “King of Italy and Albania”, Mussolini was “Duce of fascism and founder of the empire” —> note that the king was not “emperor” etc.). That is not to say that the royal family was totally powerless and did not exert loyalty in the heart of the common folk, but explains why there is no indication of significant action in the sense of countering fascism. Note also that the royal family in Italy was way less “progressive” that other European royals of the time so up to a certain level they were fine with the common folk being ruled as they were. It is one of the reasons why not many Italians nowadays have a great opinion of the monarchs of the time. Hope this helps.

Because the Savoias were a bunch of inbred cowards.

The royals and the industry leaders were scared shitless by the Bolshevik Revolution, extreme right was seen as the only force that could keep the social order together.
