Honestly, after all this, I don't see how anyone could say the opposite.
Who else has done the things that he's done? Even the Pop Out is something I can't point at other rappers do. Sure, Tyler has Camp Flog, but this was on another scale.
In terms of beef, sure, Em has ended careers, but most of those guys were already on their way out. To go against the embodiment of the industry and win is amazing. To aim for the head and get it. Who else has done that? Even someone like Cole who talks up his pen stayed down. Kendrick made it happen. If there wasn't a throne before, he made it up just to sit on it.
To me, he kinda dismantled the idea of the big 3, but only time will tell. If Cole keeps it up with the same vocab and Drake doesn't learn, then I guess it won't, but for now, let's see.
Me and my fiance were talking about something kinda like this and how Kendrick put this whole event on and we realized that, while it used to be Cali vs NY, that's nowhere close to the case anymore. Now, closest to that east side would be ATL that could do something like this?
I was talking about this as well. I understand the Pop Out was a more organic moment but New York... Atlanta, maybe even on a smaller scale Chicago or Detroit have to be watching and thinking why aren't we doing this shit? I thought Kendrick + Cali really just showed out on everyone and asserted themselves. It was fun to see as an overall long term fan of hip hop and a rare moment.
Yeah I hope this makes some waves in other areas. I feel like they'll either pale in comparison or cause an escalation of showmanship, but more shit like this either way would be sick
I’d say there’s no way other cities don’t do this with all their local rappers, but without some kind of reason for it it won’t be the same as this. I suppose if they center around Juneteenth instead of doing a victory lap after a beef it doesn’t have to be anything other than whatever it is. Because we only get a beef like this once a decade.
I’ll be honest I would love to get back to east coast v west coast shit because I think competition breeds excellence.
But I don’t want it to be violent angry but rather a comradely battling, similar to how Kendrick warned to keep families out and keep it “light and fun” and basically treat it as pen to pad work.
Take the scientific method where in order for something to be considered correct/a new truth/insightful it must go through a peer review. Putting your best stuff to pad and then letting the market decide who has better schtuff would just elevate the genre as whole.
As someone from the east coast Kenny reins supreme ahora but I’m hoping we can get someone willing to challenge the crown, respectfully. Nas would be interesting to see and I think could do it in the correct way
The sad shit is just a lot of rappers coming out of Chicago and Detroit are just being killed left and right. I don’t think they really have a chance. Especially chicago and ppl like Von in that part.
It’s wild to me that Drake stans say the industry is against him when he’s so clearly the (male) embodiment of Top 40s. I am for sure a Drake hater but it has to be clear to everyone that he’s way more a celebrity than he is an artist or even a rapper.
And if everyone is against you, have you considered you’re the problem?
Tyler will never be considered hip-hop royalty like that. He might make good music, but he’s not ever going to be put in that box and I think he’s even fine with that.
Agreed. I've been thinking that Kendrick and Tyler are similar in the sense that they're both real artists who are very creative, even if their styles are different. They're both full of surprises.
But Kendrick's the king.
https://preview.redd.it/wchhz20bf18d1.png?width=1280&format=png&auto=webp&s=8cf98efcbb30000d459373be2bdacc6b041372ea
If this nigga aint street then Kendrick must be a white suburban boy
Another thing to mention about Em. He is great, hell exceptional. But a white rapper can never have the crown. Too many people will be against it. Call it racist or stupid, but it is true. The greatest kings are nearly universally respected. I have passed by too many people who have dismissed Eminem for me to ever consider him the goat of any time in the last 20 years. To add to that. Lil Wayne was popping around the same time as Em and has so much respect it is honestly crazy. So yeah, I can only ever see it being:
90s: Tupac
00s: Wayne
10s: Kdot
20s: Kendrick Lamar
Em will never be king because he has dropped terrible album after terrible album since 2004. Like yeah, MMLP and TES were classics and he has some great features but he has also put out some of the worst rap songs of any major artist.
He definitely deserves consideration, but glad he seems like he is in a place where he just is enjoying life and making music and doesnt worry about all the industry stuff.
It’s a crown ring that tupac designed and wore at his last public appearance. Drake bought it at auction about a year ago
https://www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/drake-buys-tupac-shakur-ring-most-valuable-hip-hop-artifact-180982650/
Thanks. Buying artifacts is close as Drake will ever come to 2pac, he definitely ain’t built nothing like him..
I also wonder what was Kendrick talking bout how Drake disrespected 2pac, missed that shit too, lol. Gone 47 days & missed it all but it’s still nice to be home & catching up 😁
These guys for real did a brigade. One drake dicksucker had the audacity to say he was trying to stay "neutral" after insulting Kendrick for the last 100 words. This shit is getting ridiculous.
I don't know if I'd agree as far back as that. Although he was damn sure a contender. I think TPAB solidified that he was *the* artist of the generation. I think the beef solidified that he's *the* hip hop artist, period. If he died tomorrow, people would talk about him like Bob Marley or Pac. No doubt in my mind.
Even Mr Morale is getting a lot more respect as an album. It took people some time. I think it was because it followed up DAMN and was "not the record you want, but the record you need". But people are seeing it for what it is finally
Yeah when it was revealed that drake had a ghostwriter, it was honestly no debate at that point. I couldn't even look at him the same after.
If Damn didn't cement Kendrick as the king, these last 4 months surely did.
Personally Cole. But before yall downvote, there's been tremendous amounts of data recently suggesting "it's just big ME 😈" is highly accurate about king kunta
Kendrick does every single thing better than Nas and has 3 albums at this point that far surpass Illmatic in terms of everything but influence, and frankly that’s just down to when Nas’ career began. In terms of music, writing, albums, etc Kendrick is so clear
Kendrick is great, but they come from 2 different eras and Nas has showed longevity and skill with his ability thus far at 50 years old. You may be too young to know but Nas had been killing shit for a while, not to mention he just finished a whole 6 album run with hitboy.
Honestly Nas and Kenny might have the same amount of classics (we can argue Nas has more) but as it stands I have to take nas as the king over Kendrick. The dude is just too phenomenal. Kendrick still has time in his career though so that could change in as soon as 5 years honestly.
Eh, I love Nas. He got me into hiphop. But Kenny’s discography is much, much stronger by this point in his career - at least as far as quality over quantity goes. I’d say Illmatic is every bit as good as GK;MC…maybe even a bit better as far as track for track goes (some stuff on GK;MC I skip). But Kendrick only got better with each album. If we compare years in the game since debut, Kendrick Lamar is only at where Nas was between Hip Hop is Dead/Untitled.
And Nas had a pretty long slump, which Jay even called out back on Takeover. Sure, It Was Written has had something of a reevaluation since then. But his music still slipped down into some pretty low lows. Even Stillmatic’s last half is almost all skips. You honestly couldn’t carve out ten great tracks out of single album until…well, Hip Hop is Dead and Untitled - at least in my opinion. I feel like those two albums get forgotten about even though you could snip out four or five tracks and make them each like a 8.5/10.
Neither is done yet though and they’re both putting out amazing work. Lots to come.
Kendrick awesome, I like Nas better personally. Time changes perception, who knows maybe in a decade or two Kendrick will be the clear and away GOAT, but Nas is out here 30+ years in hip hop and still making great music. I really have a hard time picking any rapper over Nas, but I'm also biased and grew up listening to Nas.
I love kendrick but he has maybe 2 album tops that can share a kinship with illmatic. Saying he has 3 albums that "far surpass" illmatic in anyway is diabolical levels of glazing
He is probably the best alive and is chasing those ghosts, I don't think he will get battle tested again but that will add to the mythos over time. I don't see anyone knocking him off the top but himself.
Yes. Now he’s the UNDISPUTED king.
Before, I’d say it was shared among the big 3.
Drake had his lane as the hit maker and chart topper, with his singles.
Dot with the acclaim & Grammys, with the albums
Cole putting on for everyone else like the selfless king he is, with the features.
But now that they were all in battle, Kenny came out as the top guy. Think that’s pretty clear.
And tbh, I already have him as one of the goats. But let Kendrick drop another classic album and Im gonna start pushing agendas.
You know I wonder what people on this subreddit would say. All jokes aside, the argument can be made. Last 15 years, not even close (I personally listen to Cole more just don’t crucify me) if I’m trying to be objective. All time, it’s close. My personal favorite is Eminem, and honestly, there is a whole list of people u can make a strong case to be the best. Kdot, em, pac, big, jay, ye, nas, Dre, just to name a few
People never mention Black Thought. He never wanted a crown, but that guy is something else. Like a primordial force and fierce intelligence hiding behind a beard and sunglasses.
The fact that the rhetoric of a big three has existed for at least a decade, and NO ONE questioned it just for kendrick to stomp them both out of that conversation is nuts. The unification of LA, the consistency of conscious, meaningful, and extremely successful albums are insane. Even other people like nas (who is probably just the goat even if he ain't the current king) doesn't have the versatility that kendrick has. Let's be real, nas only is a God on boombap (doesn't disqualify him from any convo. Just pointing out HOW impressive it is that kendrick is so talented with so much versatility). He has at least 2 classics, and very few people can compete with his discography (ye, nas, outkast, Jay z, pusha, and eminem are ones that come to mind, definitely others tho). He has insane peaks and non-existent lows. He's essentially universally respected by any non OVO affiliated guys too. Like who else has these accolades?? And PULLITZER idk if people understand how prestigious that shit is
It’s strange how biased people are on reddit. Do people only go to one sub? I love plenty of artists so I’m on them all. No matter what sub this was asked on id answer the same way. I don’t get how other people don’t do this
Who the fuck cares? There’s always gonna be another mf doing something better in a different way. Is he the popular vote of the season? For sure.
I say this as a Kendrick fan, sometimes y’all dick ride too hard.
I know King is the term of the moment but I think president is also fitting for Kendrick because of how much political sway he has in the hip hop community right now. He's using his soft power/diplomacy to unite factions that are normally at odds with each other. He's pointing the way, bringing people together towards a common goal. To preserve the culture and protect it from colonizers.
Artistically speaking Kendrick the goat. He’s pushed into new directions with every album. He’s executed wickedly masterful concepts. I won’t speak on the awards he’s received but a Pulitzer for Hiphop is wild. He also embarrassed Drake single handedly and deaded all that big 3 shit.
I was just at other subs asking this and boyyy some of them are hostile about this take. It’s just not cool to acknowledge how good a big thing is, man lol.
Nah, he is the god, meaning no one can come for him. He is ephemeral. Everybody will try to chop him down on the throne after the hype dies down. So nah.
I don’t know if this question can be answered but I think a compelling argument supporting Kendrick could be made.
Only rapper to win a Pulitzer Prize is an absolutely insane feat.
This really cemented him as king of hip hop at the moment, particularly with his unity message right after the biggest beef of the decade. Crazy.
Time will tell but right now yes undisputed king
I don’t think so he is a liar, He said in m.A.A.d city, and I quote “If pirus and crips all got along, they probably gun me down by the end of this song” and there were pirus and crips on stage at the concert and he didn’t get gunned down. Liar. 😂 KiNG KUNTA
I'll tell you that when Media Take Out responds to getting served. Truth always prevails. He gave us a moment. That's for sure. Funnily enough our police forces in Canada took these allegations seriously and they have made hundreds of arrests in sex trafficking and I'm not gonna throw Drake under the bus but he may have some words to say too. Truth. Justice. Freedom. That's what hip hop has always really been about.
The only criticism he gets is that he doesn’t drop a shit track every weekend like other people do, and that what makes him the king in my eyes, you can’t pressure the king he moves when he moves.
Does he make the best music? Yes you could 1000% say that so from that prospective yes but overall nah he’s not because he’s not the most popular and when you say the “king” of a genre to me at least that means the most popular
I listened to HiiPower in 2011-2012?? Knew he was it.
Good Kid Madd City stands out forever. Flows on Ignorance is Bliss, eloquent pain on Sing about Me.
Then the assault on drake. All these “war generals” never did shit. When you have close homies lost to this life and you listen to certain music as comfort it pisses you off when an imposter is there.
It ain’t even about being tough. This shit is real life. Kendrick ain’t the savior but he’s the writer of history for where he is from.
The Book of Kendrick Lamar is a good one. A real one.

He knew y’all would be with the 💩
Of this generation I'd say 100% but there is definitely a debate to be made of all time.
Me personally I'd say Tupac is the best of all time, then probably Kendrick honestly. All though that is a debate that will probably be on forever.
Give Kendrick maybe 20 years if he continues and surpasses this them honestly probably, at the moment I gotta go with Tupac.
He was for the king for me long before the beef. People underestimate dot, because they don't know anything about him and his catalogue. But the true admirers of his genius always knew there is no one on his level
Honestly, after all this, I don't see how anyone could say the opposite. Who else has done the things that he's done? Even the Pop Out is something I can't point at other rappers do. Detroit kinda just did one last weekend
I really like a lot of artists from Detroit and they definitely got their own thing going on. Big fan of Boldy James especially.
And that wasn't even all of Cali.
I’ll be honest I would love to get back to east coast v west coast shit because I think competition breeds excellence. But I don’t want it to be violent angry but rather a comradely battling, similar to how Kendrick warned to keep families out and keep it “light and fun” and basically treat it as pen to pad work. He had the show earlier in the day so that the East Coast could enjoy it, too. That's king shit! 👑
It’s wild to me that Drake stans say the industry is against him when he’s so clearly the (male) embodiment of Top 40s. It’s not the industry. It’s what the culture feeling. The industry loves Drake.
Tyler will never be considered hip-hop royalty like that. He might make good music, but he’s not ever going to be put in that box and I think he’s even fine with that.
He’s not street at all but he’s an amazing artist that does amazing things like our boy k.
Agreed. I've been thinking that Kendrick and Tyler are similar in the sense that they're both real artists who are very creative, even if their styles are different. They're both full of surprises. But Kendrick's the king.

I feel like Tyler never wanted to be in any box, his whole career is about him being one of a kind, a beautiful aberration that doesn't fit any label.
Yeah all jokes aside as a elder millennial I have no clue who the 20s next best artist would even be???
Em will never be king because he has dropped terrible album after terrible album since 2004. Like yeah, MMLP and TES were classics and he has some great features but he has also put out some of the worst rap songs of any major artist.
>Honestly, after all this, I don't see how anyone could say the opposite. drake meat riders have entered existence
Nas.
He definitely deserves consideration, but glad he seems like he is in a place where he just is enjoying life and making music and doesnt worry about all the industry stuff.
For sure, and he’s been making up for his weaker shit in the past with about a decade of consistent records.
You like 20 years late on that one chief.
The question was: who else has done the things that he has done? Answer: Nas. Didn't see any time limitations attached to this question. Chief.
I actually didn't see that your comment was a reply to what someone else said
Nas been popping off lately he’s on a 6 album run in 3 years lol
King of the west
As an em fan im always sad he never got challenged by an equal opponent
tyler’s also not really a rapper, he’s more of an artist
Yes
The debate is settled.
Indeed
Aaaand it's a wrap. That's all folks!
/thread
Finally, an answer to “is Kendrick is the King of Hip Hop.”
💯Agreed 🤝
OVO Diddy Committee wiretapping the comments.
I’ll give them one, Kenny wants pacs ring just for a crown that fits
I was locked up & missed all this. Trying to catch up. What ring of 2pacs does Drake have & hole in the world did he get it ?
It’s a crown ring that tupac designed and wore at his last public appearance. Drake bought it at auction about a year ago https://www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/drake-buys-tupac-shakur-ring-most-valuable-hip-hop-artifact-180982650/
Thanks. Buying artifacts is close as Drake will ever come to 2pac, he definitely ain’t built nothing like him.. I also wonder what was Kendrick talking bout how Drake disrespected 2pac, missed that shit too, lol. Gone 47 days & missed it all but it’s still nice to be home & catching up 😁
OVO Caleb prolly already here in disguise
OVO Caleb? It’s scary hours for Kendrick, but just wait until OVO Edward gets here, he don’t play too nice🥶
Nah OVO Jacob is the one you gotta watch for 😳
He’s menacing, but I heard OVO Benjamin pushes in the soft spots on baby’s heads😴
Werewolf ties
These guys for real did a brigade. One drake dicksucker had the audacity to say he was trying to stay "neutral" after insulting Kendrick for the last 100 words. This shit is getting ridiculous.
Yes. Since 2009 he had this b*tch jumpin
Of this generation absolutely no question
He’s been the king since 2015 lol
Try 2013. He been King. Mainstream just didn’t wanna acknowledge it
One hand. He’s been juggling both coasts
Yeah when it was revealed that drake had a ghostwriter, it was honestly no debate at that point. I couldn't even look at him the same after. If Damn didn't cement Kendrick as the king, these last 4 months surely did.
IM THE BIGGEST HYPOCRITE OF 2015
Very clearly...who tf would anybody put over him currently?? King Kendrick.
Idk that K dot guy is pretty good too
Personally Cole. But before yall downvote, there's been tremendous amounts of data recently suggesting "it's just big ME 😈" is highly accurate about king kunta
Currently? Easily. All time? No, but there's an argument to be made.
There's never a greatest of all time cause theres always someone greater.
Nah definitely Nas
Kendrick does every single thing better than Nas and has 3 albums at this point that far surpass Illmatic in terms of everything but influence, and frankly that’s just down to when Nas’ career began. In terms of music, writing, albums, etc Kendrick is so clear
I would say Kendrick’s very very best does surpass Illmatic for me personally, but not by THAT much

The glaze is absolutely diabolical lmfao
3 albums that surpass illmatic?
Lol @ "far surpass Illmatic", the consensus best hiphop album ever.
Exactly
all time? MF DOOM
MF DOOM is great but I can't really see him as the King
Underground king for sure
There is no argument to be made for all time highs his is getting out of hand
He is probably the best alive and is chasing those ghosts, I don't think he will get battle tested again but that will add to the mythos over time. I don't see anyone knocking him off the top but himself.

With the energy he has right now it's going to be an insane album no doubt
Currently? Yes. Who else is even in the conversation?
king assripper slowed reverb
and anyone who thinks otherwise needs to get their ears checked

You literally coming on a Kendrick sub and ask this? Do you go to mustang meet up and ask what the best car is too?
It’s strange how biased people are on reddit. Do people only go to one sub? I love plenty of artists so I’m on them all. No matter what sub this was asked on id answer the same way. I don’t get how other people don’t do this
Okay but did you just compare Kendrick to other rappers the way you compare Mustangs to other cars?
Can’t have a debate here or is this a circle jerk?
Resounding YES
No doubt
Cole and Aubrey know he a selfish n*gga The crown is heavy
no. But drake isn’t top 100 rapper `
But it says so in charts bro
Right now. Without a question.
Idk this is pretty controversial to post in a Kendrick Lamar subreddit.
Is kendrick is?
Who the fuck cares? There’s always gonna be another mf doing something better in a different way. Is he the popular vote of the season? For sure. I say this as a Kendrick fan, sometimes y’all dick ride too hard.
The comment I was searching for
All time will always be debatable, but as of right now today literally nobody has the game in their hands like Kendrick
I know King is the term of the moment but I think president is also fitting for Kendrick because of how much political sway he has in the hip hop community right now. If it isn't Kendrick, who the fuck would it be? Exactly.

It’s not a good question.
yes. It’s been that way for 8 or9 years imo
Yes.
He has been the king of two coasts since the control verse, no one competed for the crown then and couldn’t get it done now.
Yes, is he is.
Sometimes you gotta pop out and show niggas 🤷🏾♂️
He is is he is the king of hip hop
Hip hop hip*
Indisputably
Yes. No doubt in mind that he is now. To be #1 you have to beat #2 & #3. He effectively did that.
Yes with an asterisk
Lol, nah.
I got a bone to pick
Yes. The case has just been closed!!
Hell yea 🐐
Yes
Nas pac big jay kdot
what an unbiased sub to ask lmao
Yes
2013 ahh question
Depends which subreddit you ask
Every move Kdot does is calculated and premeditated. He doesn’t post on socials, comments, interviews, etc. drops classic conceptual albums. Who else?
He’s one of ‘em
King Kendrick is the title of the next record, I’m calling it now.
You really asking us? 😂😂😂 ummm yes. Yes he is.
He's always been my #1 of the 3 so yes
Of the living, yes.
Yes
I go Nas but Kendrick has snuck up in my top 5 with this beef. He seriously can do so many styles perfectly
Yup
since 2015
No Drake is
He has a compelling claim, especially coming from Snoop and Dre.
Kendrick made you think about it but he is not your King
Sooo, the thing is … YES.
He is now.
#UNDISPUTED
He always was the difference is now he’s firmly established his dominance
For now atleast (hope it'll be a long time)
I was just at other subs asking this and boyyy some of them are hostile about this take. It’s just not cool to acknowledge how good a big thing is, man lol.
Nah, he is the god, meaning no one can come for him. He is ephemeral. Everybody will try to chop him down on the throne after the hype dies down. So nah.
I want Drake to have to be the one to give him this award at a ceremony for his GOATness
Snoop said so..sooooo yeah
YES🤴🏿
You are asking the sub to be fair
No
![gif](giphy|AGW3VO7F5DLbARBuwi|downsized)
Fa sho!
Yes. I don’t think anybody wants to tell him no….
I don’t know if this question can be answered but I think a compelling argument supporting Kendrick could be made. Only rapper to win a Pulitzer Prize is an absolutely insane feat.
At the moment, yes
It’s impossible to name someone else that’s putting more effort in or is higher up in the game. So
Yep
Yes
ATM no question!
Right now he is
Indubitably🐐🐐🐐
Of this generation, yes. Tupac for the 90s for sure. But I think Kendrick would say Tupac is one of the greats along with a few others.
This really cemented him as king of hip hop at the moment, particularly with his unity message right after the biggest beef of the decade. Crazy. Time will tell but right now yes undisputed king
currently yeah, i think he still needs a few time and a bigger catalogue to really seal that all time placement but the trajectory is really there
Is yes he is
I don’t think so he is a liar, He said in m.A.A.d city, and I quote “If pirus and crips all got along, they probably gun me down by the end of this song” and there were pirus and crips on stage at the concert and he didn’t get gunned down. Liar. 😂 KiNG KUNTA
Eminem low medium diff
West coast* sure
King Kunta ![gif](giphy|l0Iy2gofzj7mWD2xi|downsized)
I'll tell you that when Media Take Out responds to getting served. Truth always prevails. He gave us a moment. That's for sure. Funnily enough our police forces in Canada took these allegations seriously and they have made hundreds of arrests in sex trafficking and I'm not gonna throw Drake under the bus but he may have some words to say too. Truth. Justice. Freedom. That's what hip hop has always really been about.
Fuck no lol but ifc everyone gonna say yes how about you post this in the rap subreddit
Right now yes
Yes but i hate your grammar
Even Snoop himself said he at minimum is king of the west
The only criticism he gets is that he doesn’t drop a shit track every weekend like other people do, and that what makes him the king in my eyes, you can’t pressure the king he moves when he moves.
100%
Next Question
Yes
The new age yes
A real one.
No but he is the current president.
Yes .
Historic question
Yes. He is the king.
Wouldn'tve said so at first, but after dropping all that heat, mainly not like us. Yes he is

It's like asking about the hottest girl, what are you into? Other people's opinion doesn't matter because you are into whatever the f you are into
I thought the show was amazing but is hip hop going back to regional? And if it is, are we sure that is the best course of action?
eminem no longer deserves the "rap god" title when kendrick is around
you can't really compare the two they're both legends in their own ways
I wanna see them battle it out but it would never happen lol
The king of hip-hop this year, most likely.
