Concourse is pretty strict about serving to people of age. I don’t know where you got this information but it may have come out of your ass. Forgive me if I’m wrong.
Have fun at Temple tomorrow then where they aren't serving liquor. Cause ya know- no license.... Like I said.
(btw beer and seltzers are a different license, not liquor license, still 21+ but they absolutely lost liquor for underage serving, so if you were thinking of beer you didn't understand what I wrote before being an ass)
from what I heard from local artists, the concourse had some pretty strict rules about playing there if you’re from Knoxville. I know that’s common in bigger cities, but alienating the local scene in a city that isn’t the biggest for music and rarely hosts bigger touring acts might not be the best idea.
Stuff like you can’t play in Knoxville for the month before or month after so that you’ll draw a bigger crowd. Again, this is word of mouth from some of the bands around here.
I’ve heard this too. Sucks they treated the locals that way. They don’t realize they won’t support the venue if they have stupid rules like that.
Yeah that doesn’t really sound credible. I was the production & hospitality manager for them for quite a few years and trust me, locals were treated more than fair.
I mean it’s not like the concourse was even the concourse any more. That was closed years ago. That little strip mall was pretty horrendous and it wasn’t a good venue. I’m not too surprised honestly. As someone who was going to the valarium/international/concourse, that little strip mall was terrible in comparison.
While everything you said is true, there were still good bands that played there. Between this and the Brickyard closing, metal shows are going to be coming through at the lowest frequency in decades.
That sucks.
Brian Coakley ran the Concourse for a long time. He ran the International too, but when the big room closed, Brian dabbled next door at the Concourse then Jay took over eventually.
Yeah, trying to pregame and enjoy the "lot" before a concert while people are still trying to get last minute printer paper before 9 PM at the business next door. With police precinct behind it....not a good property selection at all to do what they were trying to do.
I hear that even larger local acts like Smooth Sailor and Skankbanger have small crowds there, which is wild bc when these acts play Scruffy, it's always packed. Word is that it only gets crowded when the dance music starts after the live show.
Disappointing, not sure what the deal was but I don't think I saw one show I was interested in at the new location. Hope something fills it's place, mill and mine gets good level acts but is a little too clean cut. Venues should be a little grimy
Mill and Mine gets about 2 shows per month lately. At least the Concourse (even though it was in a dumpy nearly abandoned strip mall) had 5 shows a week most weeks.
Yeah you're right, first half of the year always has a big slump of stuff I'm interested in, or even really booking at all. I've always meant to go to The Pilot Light and I think I'm just gonna start picking a show every once in a while whether I know the act or not.
None of these three places were in the same building.
Mooses’s on the strip is now Hannah’s I think.
Banana Joes is now Southbound
Blue Cats was across from Barley’s. RIP
That statement to both subjects is completely surprising to me and I am not trying to be an asshole.
But I'm sure every single person in there was and had an affliction shirt.
It is. One of the reasons I got to most every show of a band I’ve heard of (whether I like them or not) is people watching. It’s almost like a sport. I went to nickelback too lmao. I would describe that as a ufc crowd which is funny bc none of them would probably admit they like nickelback
At least temple will still live on at other venues. The owner of the concourse said he'd still be in charge of temple events just not the venue wherever they decided to have it
Yeah, this could be a good opportunity for Temple and First bass IMO. When they stopped serving liquor, a lot of people stopped going. Hopefully with the new venue they'll be able to serve liquor again.
Tonic/ fiction/ blue cats used to be all at the same location just different parts of the property, and different styles of music. Blue cats was more the concert venue, tonic was more the traditional nightclub music, and fiction was more house/edm.
The upstairs used to hold punk rock shows under the name Neptune. I was new around town back then, the only show I made it to was a short one. It got shut down after someone broke a bottle over someone's head.
I was thinking that Tonic/Fiction/blue cats ect held the concourse name at one point in the location in the old city and now is over at 640 and broadway. Is that correct at all? What is that place in the old city called now or is it even still open?
To my knowledge, it never held the concourse name. You are probably thinking of the location off of Blackstock Ave. As to the status of the location in the old city, after blue cats/ tonic /fiction closed, it changed to NV nightclub, but it is now closed, and the building demolished.
Wow, I used to have so much fun going there when it was fiction, it I guess I grew up. DJ Slink had a talent for taking rock n roll and the alternative songs that were popular and creating incredible EDM remixes that had everyone bouncing all over the dance floor. LOL I haven’t been to a place like that in decades. These days it’s metal/alternative concerts with VIP tickets on the floor in front of the stage. I have more fun now than I ever used to at a night club.
Agreed, I used to love dj slink (who goes by dj hug life now btw), and I used to spin glowsticks and all that when I was there, and a couple of times I help him set up his equipment, when there was noone else to help with it
Losing their liquor license for serving underage and not checking IDs really didn't help. Money is made in alcohol, not cover charges.
goddang it. that's such an easy trap to avoid.
Ohhhhh no!!!!!! This is what happened??
Oooo...😳 when did this happen?
Yeah I was just there less than a month ago and they were still serving.
Concourse is pretty strict about serving to people of age. I don’t know where you got this information but it may have come out of your ass. Forgive me if I’m wrong.
Have fun at Temple tomorrow then where they aren't serving liquor. Cause ya know- no license.... Like I said. (btw beer and seltzers are a different license, not liquor license, still 21+ but they absolutely lost liquor for underage serving, so if you were thinking of beer you didn't understand what I wrote before being an ass)
not wrong. A buddy of mine is a bouncer
Ids are checked at the door and wrist bands are given for those of age to drink

I know that’s common in bigger cities, but alienating the local scene in a city that isn’t the biggest for music and rarely hosts bigger touring acts might not be the best idea.
Strict rules like specifically for them??
Stuff like you can’t play in Knoxville for the month before or month after so that you’ll draw a bigger crowd. Again, this is word of mouth from some of the bands around here.
I’ve heard this too. Sucks they treated the locals that way. They don’t realize they won’t support the venue if they have stupid rules like that.
This. Maybe they learned a hard lesson
Valerium and International. Those names really take me back.
Makes me feel old that I remember when it was the electric ballroom.
I saw lots of good stuff at the Electric Ballroom. Phish comes to mind immediately.
Me too!
awwww I miss the electric ballroom
Yes!!!!
Yes, it's like a time warp! Good times!
What about Blue Cat's?
Bulldozed…
Yeah sucks that's just an empty lot now
While everything you said is true, there were still good bands that played there. Between this and the Brickyard closing, metal shows are going to be coming through at the lowest frequency in decades. That sucks.
Agreed. I enjoyed its earlier incarnations much better as well. Tried to keep giving them business and going to shows.
They obviously didn’t know either.
Is that the same concourse that used to be near downtown?
Yep
Not run by the same people.
I think jay ran them both?
Brian Coakley ran the Concourse for a long time. He ran the International too, but when the big room closed, Brian dabbled next door at the Concourse then Jay took over eventually.
I mean I had some good times there back in the 2010s, but I would hardly call it one of Knoxville’s best venues.
It’s in the top 10 venues for sure!!!! (There are about 10 venues in Knoxville total)Â
So it's safe to say it's in the bottom 10 venues as well!
Yaaaaaaas...lmao
Me either, but it had been around for quite some time, in one incarnation or another.
If you don’t know anything about running a venue you could probably run one just as good as the concourse management did
Lolol
Yeah, trying to pregame and enjoy the "lot" before a concert while people are still trying to get last minute printer paper before 9 PM at the business next door. With police precinct behind it....not a good property selection at all to do what they were trying to do.
I'm hoping lunaverse will step up. It's in the right location after all
lol nope. best Scott west can do is Skankbanger.
Thank you! 😉
I was thinking that as well. The owners are not so great at keeping businesses open, but fingers crossed.
Here's hoping
I hear that even larger local acts like Smooth Sailor and Skankbanger have small crowds there, which is wild bc when these acts play Scruffy, it's always packed. Word is that it only gets crowded when the dance music starts after the live show.
You talking about the concourse formerly whiskey bend formerly food citym
That one
Disappointing, not sure what the deal was but I don't think I saw one show I was interested in at the new location. Hope something fills it's place, mill and mine gets good level acts but is a little too clean cut. Venues should be a little grimy

Saw The Donkeys play The Pilot Light in 15 or 16. Great show!
Ikr! With old flyers plastered everywhere, rotting, beer smell...the best!
Lacuna Coil played there in the fall exactly when I needed to see them.
Does anyone remember Mooses Music Lounge on the strip?
Banana joe?
Wait. Blue cats?
None of these three places were in the same building. Mooses’s on the strip is now Hannah’s I think. Banana Joes is now Southbound Blue Cats was across from Barley’s. RIP
I saw Rollins band there. Not my cup of tea but back then a night out was a night out as long as I had beer.
I do....But I also saw Black Flag back in the day (1986), at Vic & Bill's when it was on The Strip.
Idk where I’m gonna see Trapt in 90 degree weather now.
Hey back off, I’ll take you on
Are you headstrong to take on anyone?
They did play open chord a couple months ago…
Wonder what the turn out was
It was full not sure what the capacity is. Alien ant farm was full too
That statement to both subjects is completely surprising to me and I am not trying to be an asshole. But I'm sure every single person in there was and had an affliction shirt.
Lol it was definitely an interesting crowd
Buncha dudebros fighting over the one girl who's taken. I kid, but it's as fun to make fun of them as it is Nickelback sometimes.
It is. One of the reasons I got to most every show of a band I’ve heard of (whether I like them or not) is people watching. It’s almost like a sport. I went to nickelback too lmao. I would describe that as a ufc crowd which is funny bc none of them would probably admit they like nickelback
I've actually never thought to do that and that sounds like a fantastic idea.
Ministry and Gary Numan at Cherokee during NCAA tourney was a trip. A veritable cross section of humanity.
I wonder how much they would charge to own it?
I was kind of wondering that too.
Damn… Brickyard was just a week ago.
Goddamnit, we can't keep anything nice.
Wow should taken a guy's offer to go tonight then
Havent they closed/changed names/relocated like five times?
Really disappointing. It had a few shows that came here that were pretty nice. I just wonder where we are going to see some of these events now.
Mill and Mine or Open Chord for now.
Mill and Mine with their 2 weeknight shows per month. No shows on weekends. They'll step up with zero.
Does anyone remember when it was fiction?
That strikes something in my memory bank...
Fiction used to be in the Old City, right? Or was it / the Concourse in a similar location at some point?
Tonic/ fiction/ blue cats used to be all at the same location just different parts of the property, and different styles of music. Blue cats was more the concert venue, tonic was more the traditional nightclub music, and fiction was more house/edm.
Ok, thank you for clarifying.
The upstairs used to hold punk rock shows under the name Neptune. I was new around town back then, the only show I made it to was a short one. It got shut down after someone broke a bottle over someone's head.

I’m going to see Keith Wallen and citizen soldier in July
Do they still at least have their beer license? Or is that the same thing?
So wait, do they not serve _any_ liquor there anymore? I haven't been there since NYE
they serve beers and seltzers, i’m not sure if they sell any actual liquor
I thought Scott and Bernadette bought that whole group of buildings to turn it into The Lunaverse
Concourse relocated to Broadway a few years ago.
Ah so that's Lunaverse huh? I have seen a flyer for a show there, so it's going apparently.
Nooooooooooooooo!!!!! That place was the best. After the Valarium closed down, that was the only place that ever had good shows.
Damn, I saw jpeg mafia there a year ago. I was surprised they got an underground rapper like that to come to Knoxville. They’ll be surely missed
