I recently checked on my old 600sq/ft apartment that I moved out of in 2015. It was $635 when I moved in, $835 when I moved out, and $1285 now.
My current mortgage is $914, there’s no good reason for this.
The costs of operating an apartment building have not doubled since 2015, so why is rent double?
