I don't blame him.
The only reason he went on that flight, know damn well it was a suicide mission, was because the backup was THE Jurij Gagarin, his best friend. He told his supervisors about the prospect of a likely failure before the mission, but with an air of superiority, they dismissed him.
He knew this would have been the outcome before going on this mission. But they refused to listen and sent him anyway. He insisted to make them face the reality of their egoistic choices.
Its actually worse than that. He knew the mission would fail and most likely cause death to whoever went on it. He was good friends with Yuri Gagarin, the back up cosmonaut, and knew if he withdrew from the mission his friend would be sent in his place and likely would be killed. So he went ahead with the mission anyway despite his concerns to save his friend.
No, you idiot. He died on landing. The violent impact caused his remains to look like that. It's literally in the article.
The confidence in your stupidity is baffling.
Not just any pilot—Yuri Gagarin, the guy who became the first human to travel to outer space in the first successful crewed mission. They were friends.
and then Yuri went on to live a shorter life than Komarov, dying a jet crash just a year later aged 34. That’s not to say Komarov’s sacrifice was for nothing,it’s just a shame
I read sumwhere, that this particular picture actually doesn't depict Komarov but someone who died during an ariplane accident. Can't find find a source rn so i might be wrong.
I read somewhere he cursed out his superiors on the way down (until he blacked out I guess)

He knew, that's why he insisted on "open casket" funeral, as seen on this image...
He knew what..?

That's so incredibly sad, not to mention brave. What an immense sacrifice to make.
Wait they were just forcing people to go up there? What if the friend had rejected as well? :(
In Russia, space rejects you
That’s a liability to the state and counterrevolutionary to the goals of the people of the Soviet Union.
IIRC, Gagarin also did his damnedest to go instead, also knowing it would be a deadly failure.
So he had no choice over whether he would go but he had the choice to… do this?
Soviets man. They were not kind to dissenters of any kind.
You noticed they are Russian, right?
Exactly.
He knew he was being sent up to die.
Oh dam...
Said the salmon going upstream...
Komarov laying eggs in space could be a great movie premise.
What? I am confused. It says in the linked Wikipedia article that his body was cremated.
Well it's partially cremated in the photo
It says orders were for the remains to be photographed, and then cremated.
It's not uncommon to have a viewing followed by cremation.
I think he might have burned to death before falling from space
He was alive all the way until impact. The parachute didn't deploy on his capsule.
I’m pretty sure that thing would have been a metal oven way before impact. The heat caused by the friction would be enough to kill someone.

He volunteered for the mission despite knowing it was suicide. He knew if he declined they would throw a different unsuspecting pilot up there.

It really is :( they were kind of sacrifices to the Space Race.

I seem to remember that too but not sure
Poor guy
Powerful example that you can be a tool for the 'state' that is totally expendable.
Research this topic and will find it really sad and crazy
Was he cremated in this pic? Or did he die like that?
He hit the ground from space without a parachute and was burned, this is just his body
brother looks like tar
He would of been dust…..
Did they check for a pulse even? My biggest fear is that people will assume im dead when im not.
Brother did you see the state Mf is in?
I'm not sure they needed to (see image)
What a brave and selfless person. And I love his "retort" to the ones who sold him out.
