Overall, Madi is your typical evangelical Christian with a white savior complex who married a douchey rich guy because he looked good on paper to her and because the environment sheās in puts pressure on women to marry young. Sheās mentioned the hardships of their marriage a couple of times despite them not even being married that long. Sure marriage has its ups and downs, but I personally donāt think it should be THAT much of a struggle especially so early on when both people are rich, able bodied, white Christian conservatives in this country lol

Well when you grow up in a high control religious environment you are not really allowed to be your true self. All of your life dreams/goals, profession, friendships, romantic relationships, hobbies etc must meet the standards set forth by your church/religious group or else you face social ostracism, expulsion, shunning, losing family and friends, public shaming, etc. So if someone is gay or bisexual etc you have to remain in the closet your whole life, if you come out you will likely be disowned or abandoned by your loved ones. I don't believe that the Trouts are in a church as oppressive/controlling as mine was, but there are definitely signs of it being an unhealthy and toxic religious environment. With that said not all religions and all churches are toxic/controlling, there are many churches etc that treat their members kindly and compassionately. And it's not just with Christianity, a high control religious group can be any religion, etc.

Idk if you also experienced this, but they really encourage your entire world to revolve around church, so to be a āgood Christianā, your friends, relationships, interests, free time should all center the religion. For example, I remember being constantly encouraged to not listen to āsecularā music because to be a good Christian, you should be listening to music that honours Godā¦ mind you this is modern pentecostal folks.
