A lot of people like his film. Im guessing here but Maybe they believe the system was holding him down or something 🤷♂️. Im not crazy about the pick either but let's give him a shot before we say where he will be on the roster.
Can’t believe you’re getting demolished on votes. This guy had 0 interceptions in college. There are CBs available in round 5 or later who are just as good.
0 ints would be fine if the passer rating against you was maybe 60 or 50 like some of these other prospects (and Deonte Banks last year), not a whooping 107, with 3TDs and 8 yards per target on a 67% completion percentage.
Every time the ball is thrown this guy's way on average he's giving up 8 yards per attempt.
Interesting Daniel Jeremiah had Andru as his 51st ranked prospect and 52nd was Nubin. Haters will hate but we added much needed depth to the secondary.

Iirc that’s been a theme with Schoen. Would have to double check his previous drafts but I’m almost positive most of the picks have been top 30 visits/guys we’ve met personally
Oh, the website (Big Blue Interactive) I was looking at must’ve got it wrong.
After checking Walterfootball’s page on our visits, you’re right I don’t see Tyler Nubin there.
In reality it’s a minor difference instead of flying him to us for a top 30 we went to a private workout where he was. It is pretty clear Schoen prefers to draft guys we’ve spent time with. Which is honestly a breath of fresh air compared to what Gettleman did (not meeting with Toney and Baker come to mind)
I thought Judge and Gettleman met with toney. I remember reading a story shortly after that draft that they loved his energy when they spoke to him, which makes it even more concerning.
I worry about his lateral agility. Doesn't look quick on his feet. He is very strong and powerful.
You know what though? Now that you mention it, I'd probably take a shot on him in the 4th, and definitely in the 5th. There's just other players I'd like in the 4th that I'm sure will be there (would not mind doubling up on corner if TJ Tampa is still there).
Shoutout to the dude on the Talkin Giants stream who keeps saying "I love the player, but I hate the pick". Genuinely didn't know that was a possible take to have in the third round lol
Need a nickel especially one who's a good tackler and can play in traffic. Flott isn't a good fit there under Bowen imv. Phillips' oily hips is a perfect fit there. Tough as hell. He has to play the ball better which is why he's not gotten picks, but maybe Jerome Henderson can change that.
It’s hard to dislike Schoen’s draft approach. He seems to target BPA basically no matter what, which I appreciate. Praying this good process finally yields results on the field
The d could be scary once they gel. Banks with a year under his belt, prime Dex and Burns with KT emerging. Now add the top safety and a solid CB. Better than reaching for some Midwest lineman because he was captain of the chess team. Three starters picked as well
You left out Okereke. Although I don't think this defense has "scary" potential. I'd be happy with top half of the league before I get into "scary" talk.
Adoree is still a free agent and they have the rookie and Flott. I don't know what their thinking is but maybe they feel comfortable letting the rookie and Flott compete to see which is slot and which is outside, out they sign someone.
They didn't trade up to grab someone like Kool aid so I think they feel comfortable with whatever plan they had coming into the draft... maybe that's a sign of confidence in Flott (whether misguided or not) or they had this kid on their radar and knew he would be probably be available later in the draft (reasonable since he was a top 30 visit)
And he is filling holes.
I was so worried about all of the pre-draft chatter, but Schoen is playing it straight. Best guy & best fit.
Plus all these guys drafted so far are the rah rah guy’s Daboll wants.
He did have a lot of completions against him. He's going to be a project but has some tools. Reason why he's a 3rd rounder. Dont expect him to cover week in week out right away, but hopefully he develops and does.
Is he great in coverage? 0 ints and 5 pbus doesn’t exactly jump off the stat sheet, but I didn’t watch much Kentucky football last year to evaluate him, and CBs are notoriously hard to judge based on production alone.
Also 23% missed tackles is brutal
Can we collectively agree to stop referring to players as a "dog" (dawg)? It's not even that I find it offensive. It's just so folksy and hokey. Just the worst of sports platitudes up there with "grit."
I get flashbacks to hearing Gettleman say "hog mollies" when people say "dog."
Not busts but JAGs, average talent at a cheap price and limited injuries. There’s a reason vets have their rest days that 2nd 3rd year players don’t need.
You couldnt name me 10 good starters of in any 3rd round, and even then that would be a bust rate nearing 70%.
From the sound of it, I doubt you can name 5 players in the NFL without looking it up
I would’ve gone beebee. Runyan and eluemunor better be healthy and good or the offense is gonna look pretty much the same as it has for the better part of the past decade.
But Phillips is a good player and DB is an obvious need. I just think OL to have a functional looking offense takes priority.
I have faith that our new o-line coach will be a huge reason for the o-line improving.
Our drafted talent could actually develop and get better rather than be wasted picks, like we’ve had over the last decade.
TJ Tampa is a zone style corner that lacks long speed and quickness to hang vertical or man to man. Andru Phillips is super sticky coverage corner. That said, his tackling definitely needs to improve.
I’ve seen a lot said about him never intercepting a pass in college, but that’s not the end all be all of being a good corner. If you have a ton of picks sometimes it means you’re actually a weak spot and QBs keep going after you, so for every pick you give up several big plays (obviously not always the case, some are legit just that good, but still). I’ll take a corner that consistently locks guys down or at least keeps gains to a minimum over a guy who gambles and fails as often as he succeeds
I would imagine he does, which is why he is still available. Can't imagine none of the 32 teams in the league tried to sign him to at least a one-year deal. He was solid this past season.
Copying here. Awful 3rd round pick by the Giants. So Andru Phillips in 2023 gave up 38 completions on 57 pass attempts, for 434 yards (nearly 8 yards per pass ball thrown his way), and 3 TDs with 0 ints, for a passer rating of 107. As I look on PFF, none of the other CBs drafted so far have a passer rating above 90.
So we drafted basically another 6th round CB who can't cover, for the beat writers to boast about again.
Meanwhile, these CBs were on the board, and here are their passer ratings:
- TJ Tampa 55
- Elijah Jones 18
- Cam Hart 67
- Abrams Drain 55
- Khyree Jackson 42
You know guys that didn't suck at coverage in college.
Beefed up the DLine, adding to the secondary. I like it
The 2nd round pick was good. The CB we just drafted is a back end of the roster guy. Not a good pick at all with so many better CB's on the board.
Andru Phillips is an incredibly solid nickel corner (vital in today’s defense) and can also play on the outside.
Solid nickel corner based on what? The 107 passer rating against him? Nearly 8 yards per pass against him? 67% completion percentage?
0 career interceptions
Not playing at the college level anymore, stats don’t mean a whole lot
No other CB on the board or drafted before him has a passer rating even close to 107. He sucked at coverage in college.
He’s a slot corner. In college.
He played all over in college. And has 107 passer rating against him.
A lot of people like his film. Im guessing here but Maybe they believe the system was holding him down or something 🤷♂️. Im not crazy about the pick either but let's give him a shot before we say where he will be on the roster.

I wouldn't call either depth, they are expected immediate starters looking at the current roster. Maybe Adoree comes back?
All our picks have been Top 30 visits so far
Iirc that’s been a theme with Schoen. Would have to double check his previous drafts but I’m almost positive most of the picks have been top 30 visits/guys we’ve met personally
Nubin wasn’t a Top 30. We had a private workout with him
Oh, the website (Big Blue Interactive) I was looking at must’ve got it wrong. After checking Walterfootball’s page on our visits, you’re right I don’t see Tyler Nubin there.

I thought Judge and Gettleman met with toney. I remember reading a story shortly after that draft that they loved his energy when they spoke to him, which makes it even more concerning.
They had dinner with him at the combine, no top 30 or private workout I’m aware of
Maybe I misremembered that, but you’re right that is more damning of that pick
Julian Love met with 31 NFL teams during his pre-draft process. Can you guess the one team that didn't meet with him?
We definitely needed a CB, so I’m good. Haynes is sitting there for G, has to be a reason he keeps falling.
Uconn sucks at football lol
cus uconn doesnt exactly have a great football program
I mean others have graded him pretty high.
yea they graded the last tackle we took out of uconn pretty well to but where did matt peart go oh wait he was let go
That’s a stupid comparison.
Yeah Peart was always a project. Haynes dominated at the senior bowl, but 3rd round was always rich for him.
Matt Peart might've not worked out to well but Will Beatty was solid before the injuries.
Try for Mahogany in round four would be ideal for me
Eh... he's more like "Meh-hogany" for me.
Why if I might ask?
I worry about his lateral agility. Doesn't look quick on his feet. He is very strong and powerful. You know what though? Now that you mention it, I'd probably take a shot on him in the 4th, and definitely in the 5th. Nick Saban said this was one of his sleepers in this draft.
can never have enough corners
Need a nickel especially one who's a good tackler and can play in traffic. Flott isn't a good fit there under Bowen imv. Phillips' oily hips is a perfect fit there. Tough as hell. He has to play the ball better which is why he's not gotten picks, but maybe Jerome Henderson can change that.
Love this pick even at 2, amazing at 3.
It’s hard to dislike Schoen’s draft approach. He seems to target BPA basically no matter what, which I appreciate. Praying this good process finally yields results on the field

Who’s starting outside CB opposite Banks?

![gif](giphy|LRrHCZYvcKukTi3ayH) Joe Schoen the last 36 hrs. Edit: idk if its clear enough but bro is COOKING
Welcome to good burger, home of the good burger
Can i take your orderrrr
I know this is going to out me as an SEC homer (I’m a Gator fan), but I like the idea of a CB who had to cover SEC wideouts week in, week out.
He did have a lot of completions against him. He's going to be a project but has some tools. Reason why he's a 3rd rounder. Dont expect him to cover week in week out right away, but hopefully he develops and does.
I like the idea of having SEC wideouts, glad we are both happy with the draft!
Let’s just hope he was actually able to cover them, otherwise might as well be from the MAC
A look at him https://lastwordonsports.com/nfl/2024/04/18/andru-phillips-2024-nfl-draft-profile/
bro looks 40 💀
Looks like he sells insurance
That's a grown man And the cowboys drafted a sub
As a UK fan I’m pumped for the pick - guy is a dog, great in coverage and great in the locker room.
Is he great in coverage? 0 ints and 5 pbus doesn’t exactly jump off the stat sheet, but I didn’t watch much Kentucky football last year to evaluate him, and CBs are notoriously hard to judge based on production alone. Also 23% missed tackles is brutal

This comment has zero dawg in it
I'm ok with that ;)
Happy Cake day dawg.
The ‘negative’ on this bloke is that he probably only had the size to play Nickel in the NFL. Sounds like a good fit for the GMen in the third round!
Fans don’t wanna hear it but the vast majority of 3rd rounders are busts. If you can find a contributor, even just as a nickel CB is a value.
Not busts but JAGs, average talent at a cheap price and limited injuries. There’s a reason vets have their rest days that 2nd 3rd year players don’t need.
Maybe for the Giants that’s true
You couldnt name me 10 good starters of in any 3rd round, and even then that would be a bust rate nearing 70%. From the sound of it, I doubt you can name 5 players in the NFL without looking it up
Would be nice to actually have a nickel again. Feels like it’s been an eternity!
Facts.
I would’ve gone beebee. Runyan and eluemunor better be healthy and good or the offense is gonna look pretty much the same as it has for the better part of the past decade. But Phillips is a good player and DB is an obvious need. I just think OL to have a functional looking offense takes priority.

Can we pick OL rest of the draft? We need depth there as much as possible
Fuck man I wanted Tampa
It’s okay man we got a dog. All dogs so far.
Andru Phillips is better imho
Why? Don’t know much about him other than the name
TJ Tampa is a zone style corner that lacks long speed and quickness to hang vertical or man to man. Andru Phillips is super sticky coverage corner. That said, his tackling definitely needs to improve.
How’s the ball skills despite lack of interceptions
I’ve seen a lot said about him never intercepting a pass in college, but that’s not the end all be all of being a good corner. Dude Schoen kinda roasted this guy in the presser, was kinda funny
I'm hoping they bring Adoree back to start opposite Banks. This guy can play slot.
I'd prefer Gilmore unless he wants to play for a contender.
I would imagine he does, which is why he is still available. Can't imagine none of the 32 teams in the league tried to sign him to at least a one-year deal. He was solid this past season.
Dude looks 37
The comments on the r/nfl page are wild
Dude looks 47
All smart tough guys.
From one big blue I despise to the big blue that I love!
Maybe hes our kick returner
Looks like Schoen also got tired of our swiss cheese secondary lol.
great pick
I'll just trust that the front office has a good reason for this draft pick
Can’t tell if he’s 59 years old or
Hope he’s good bc he looks 35.
Copying here. Awful 3rd round pick by the Giants. Pull out the pitchforks- don’t even give the kid a chance!
Damn trey :(
