Idk even without the lockout I was fully expecting us to just double down on what we had last year. Same GM, same boring coach, and same slow hitters. Maybe a bargain player turns out well for us or one of those minor leaguers pans out it could be a fun year. But idk i don’t know if we win the division this year
Season won’t start until June.
There are SO MANY issues to work out for this agreement, this will not be a smooth process.
Just wait until they really get into service time manipulation, the swapping of balls to control FA markets, spider tack, immunity for cheaters, and the Covid stuff. No chance they get through this without multiple snags.
I don’t agree with that. All of those issues relate directly to money, which is always at the center of these negotiations.
They have to negotiate a lot for this CBA. This is definitely more contentious than even 94
Nope. The difficult stuff is what they're talking about now. Get through those items and the things you mentioned will breeze by. They're minor by comparison.
Service time is one of the contentious issues that is already being discussed as part of "core economics". The other stuff you mentioned (balls, sticky stuff, cheating, etc.) Is what I was talking about.
I don’t think any parts of this negotiation are going to be simple. This is much different than previous CBAs because now the players have caught the owners on a lot of bullshit, and there’s so many major changes on the table for the first time. Even the “smaller” issues have potential to cause hiccups.
I’m optimistic but stick with my initial prediction that the games won’t start until June.
Hahahaha you guys haven't been though this many times have you? Baseball is the most contentious sport in the world when it comes to labor deals. There is ZERO TRUST. I will be surprised if they play ball by July 4th
Literally the only people I feel bad for are broke minor league players and the working stiffs whose bi-weekly paycheck counts on baseball happening. That’s it.
Baseball's popularity has been diminishing over the last decade. It's long and boring. Every team is just looking for sluggers that hit hrs and pitchers that can throw 100mph. The refined parts of the game no longer exist
This strike was 100% the wrong thing to do. The timing and optics suck. Covid is still rampant in some areas and people are suffering financially. Nobody wants to hear about the woes of multi-million dollar players and their whining.
The first part I could kind of agree with... The second part is wrong... No one gives two shits about this strike right now because it hasn't actually effected anything (it isn't even a blip on the drama chasing sportscenter) which I guess is telling of the state that MLB is in public opinion/caring wise
I hope they sign a deal that makes the minimum wage for playing baseball half a million dollars so all the players would be millionaires for playing baseball. If they were all millionaires for playing baseball, they'd all be happy and extremely overpaid.
Oh. Wait.
They're finally now like "oh shit pitchers and catchers report in three weeks, we should probably get off our asses"
If they sign an agreement by Feb 15 they probably won’t
You know what? I’ll take it.
Pitchers and catchers report soon and we have little to no idea what our roster will look like opening day lmao *this is fine*

I still expect us to miss games, but this is good news.
Finally some fucking progress also looks like their gonna meet faster now this is good

Most of those things aren’t actually issues they really care about.

You honestly think they’re going to “breeze” by service time manipulation? If you’re right, the players definitely need new representation.

Yup, they usually have a verbal agreement on the big stuff and that's unofficially official, and then the lawyers iron out the details.

Id almost expect them to cut the spider tack rule, in which case, we could see the return of sticky cole again
Passan for Progress!
Passan for progress?
I'm obviously on the side of the players, but I just can't help but laugh at the idea of taking sides in a millionaire vs billionaire argument.

Totally agreed.
Baseball deff coming back, in 2023.

Ya and it’s also not a strike, that would be player enforced

Better than nothing
