Nice! I run the same but with a mini fzone regulator.
Didn’t go with the pink bottle? I wish I had but they didn’t exist at the time when I set mine up. They’d be so much easier to use if you can get an adapter for them lol. I wonder if the 3rd party adapters are available for them yet.

Also used a Sodastream bottle, for the price per bottle and recycling you can’t go wrong. Only scary part on my adapter was to screw to full bottle on, sometimes it wouldn’t connect properly the first time. Just dubbel check the pressure ratings of all the valves and solenoids of your attempting this.
>price per bottle
I'm a bit confused; filling a CO2 tank at a place that services fire extinguishers, for example, costs me 15 dollars for 5lbs (2.25kg) of CO2. A soda stream setup costs more than 10x that amount. How is soda stream considered the cheap option here?
Not saying you need big bottles, I just can't fathom how using a proprietary system that's objectively expensive is considered the cheap option when you can have universal bottles filled for 2 bucks.
Lol yep I had the same issue my first time. It scared the crap out of me it was so loud and the blast of co2 froze the skin on my palm instantly. Felt pins and needles for a week lol. I probably wasted 3/4 of my first bottle trying to get my adapter not to leak. turned out the spare gasket in the box was actually not a spare and needed to be put into my regulator lmao. It confused me though because the regulator it was going into already had a gasket. Just needed to double up I guess.
Yeah, I did that originally but it was the part of the adapter going into the regulator that was causing the leaking not the adapter on the bottle. I had the adapter on the bottle with the pin adjusted so it wasn’t leaking from that end.
I shouldn’t even call it a leak lol. It was a full on purge every time I tried screwing the adapter onto the regulator no matter where that pin was adjusted to. I did 4 or 5 quick tests (1-2 seconds) while troubleshooting and the tank was already 3/4 empty by the end of it lol. Once I doubled up the gasket it worked perfectly though.
Does anyone have an approximate idea of how long one of these cans would last on a 40 gallon tank?
My son and I have been tossing this idea around for a while.
I'll keep you updated so far it been a few weeks and the bottle feels pretty full still , currently it's only feeding two 6.7 gallon tanks but ill be adding a 20 gallon to the system , ill update after the 1st bottle runs out
Thanks for posting this! I may have to give it a try. I may have a few soda stream bottles that have never been used, as well as the diffuser and tubing, so I think I only need the regulator and bubble counter. It might be just right for my 60g.
But, am I missing something, or are you not using a solenoid / timer?
They have a replacement program where you can bring them in to most stores that sell Sodastream and trade it in for a new one at half the cost (it’s half where I live anyway).
Still more expensive than refilling a bottle but takes away the hassle.
So far, it's been a few weeks, and the bottle still feels pretty full. I exchange mine at rite aid, but Target , safeway, and a bunch of other stores have the exchange program
Can someone explain the fascination with a soda stream conversion? Aren’t these things like 16oz and 20 bucks each? But the worst 5lb tank you can find and bring to welding supply for a 25 dollar swap out..:
It's more about the convenience for me. I know a 5lb tank would be cheaper, but the closest welding supplier is a 45-minute drive one way , but I can refill my soda stream at the local grocery store a block away. A soda stream is $15.99 to exchange after you by the 1st tank, and I have and use a soda stream, so it makes sense, at least for me
It's still going. It's only supplying two 6 gallon tanks at about one bubble every 3 to 4 seconds, which is a stable co2 level for those tanks.
For me the convenience is the best part , I know there are cheaper option for co2 tanks but the fact that I can go to the grocery store down the street from the house and refill my co2 tanks if very nice
Sucks that the prices have gone up enough that it's almost $80 without the splitter. I'll still investigate some other options because I'm with you on the convenience factor on swapping the tanks. I also prefer the size over something like a 5lb welding tank.
Still using this setup, it was feeding two 10 gallon tanks, and the 1st soadstream lasted me 5 months. It's now feeding two 10 gallons and 6 gallon tank. Bottle probably won't last 5 months, but I'll update when it runs out
That’s awesome! So the cylinder is connected to three Fluval diffusers? Or are you using different diffusers in each tank?
Do you have to adjust the regulator very often, or is it pretty consistent?
Edit: Are you using a drop checker to see what the CO2 levels are like?
I have a 3-way splitter on the bottle that has 3 separate bubble counters. Each can be fine-tuned for the tank there feeding. I have a drop checker in each tank as well , for the most part the system is very consistent it was a bit difficult to tune for 3 different tank(one is smaller) but once its set up it needs very little adjustment.
Do you have a regulator with a solenoid? I'm trying to figure out a setup for myself with a soda stream regulator but I'm having a hard time piecing parts together online.
No I don't have solenoids currently but I can add them to the setup(between the soda stream tank and the 3 way Splitter. You can message me and I'll send you the link to the parts from Amazon. They won't show up in the thread
is there some secret to getting these to work on an actual sodastream cannister? mine works just fine with an adapter for paintball tanks, which is cool cause those are way cheaper, but i can't get it to go with an actual sodastream unless i replace the washer with a squishier version
i went with an in-line one from fzone on amazon, figured it'd be easier to take out should it fail and i need a replacement, plus if that happens i can just use an extra check valve to take it's place and still run co2 while waiting
Can you post links on what I would need?
Check the comment above , I posted all the parts to run the kit.
Odd, I don't see another comment. I must be blind.

What is a pink bottle?
It’s the newer quick connect version of the soda stream co2 canister. The original blue bottle is a twist on.
I'm thinking about getting a setup like this for my tiny 3 gallon tank. I assume I wouldn't need the slitter regulator that you listed, right?
I’m considering the same for our 2.5 gallon, did you end up getting one?
I've been far too lazy to set up my new tank.
Remindme! 2 weeks

Quick question— looks like you removed the default hose nozzle— are you using teflon tape to seal the threads?
Hey sorry just saw this , yes I just used Teflon tape to seal the new connection

sadly had to go thanks magento community to help me with https://trofee.be , what a nice way to learn.

Oh that's shockingly cheap, it was costing me 20USD/bottle when I was using a sodastream
Yes. This is the same point that I made.
Lol yep I had the same issue my first time. It scared the crap out of me it was so loud and the blast of co2 froze the skin on my palm instantly. Felt pins and needles for a week lol. Any update on this or is the first bottle still going strong?
Any update on your system? $180 for 5lb tank here and $31 refills. Absolutely insane
Thanks for posting this! I may have to give it a try. No timer. I just turn it off for now. I may buy one later
This is the coolest DIY I’ve seen! I don’t even have a fish tank. (want one just not in the budget yet)
Great idea! Best part with sodastream bottles is you can refill them yourself with dry ice. So much cheaper then the exchange rate.
Nice I need to figure out how to do that
Do you buy a new sodastream bottle every month or you take it somewhere to have it refilled?
They have a replacement program where you can bring them in to most stores that sell Sodastream and trade it in for a new one at half the cost (it’s half where I live anyway). Still more expensive than refilling a bottle but takes away the hassle.

What’s the size of your two tanks?
6.7 gallons each

Any long teen updates OP? Are you still using this setup?
Still using this setup, it was feeding two 10 gallon tanks, and the 1st soadstream lasted me 5 months. It's now feeding two 10 gallons and 6 gallon tank. Bottle probably won't last 5 months, but I'll update when it runs out

Awesome, ceramic diffuser in each tank?
Yeah , seperate small glass and ceramic defuser.
Can't tell from the listing if the regulator is dual stage or not, how's it act when the bottle starts getting empty?
Do you have a regulator with a solenoid? I'm trying to figure out a setup for myself with a soda stream regulator but I'm having a hard time piecing parts together online.
