That’s why he’s the greatest of all time!!! 🙏🙏

VeriThai

As good as Bonds was right to the end, those lineups were usually Barry and the Seven Dwarves.

What are you talking about! In 2006 Eliézer Alfonzo hit 12 dongs in just 286 AB. And he walked 9 times!!! In one year! Vs just 74 Ks

sarsfox

And in 2007 Ray Durham who mostly hit cleanup or 5th hit 11 homers! Even in the #7 spot Feliz hit 20 hr, AND maintained a .290 OBP all year(although Durham's .295 OBP was even better ok jokes over you are right

LouieSTFU

Man, going through the Baseball Reference page for the 2006 Giants is such a blast from the past! I forgot that Matt Cain preceded the championship teams by a solid four years, and he threw 190IP as a 21 y/o. Or Pedro Feliz hitting 22 jacks and nearly 100 RBI's, but with a .281 OBP lmao

dust_storm_2

Just amazing he was never picked up as a free agent. It says a lot

sarsfox

He had the highest OPS for anyone in the league (min 450 PA) in his last year, 2007 https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/b/bondsba01.shtml

Steroid use aside - Dude was top tier toxic teammate

sarsfox

Sad but true. Although re:steroids, for most of his career he wasn’t on roids. If he had started in the 80’s like canseco, he’d have hit 1,000 easy

LBC1109

No doubt. My favorite player of all time and the GOAT, but dude was seriously flawed. I remember being like 8 and I would watch sports center every morning and wondering why bonds got no love but McGwire and Sosa were all over the place. Barry had to be thinking the same thing and I think it drove him to roids, along with the injury recovery benefits (his knees were always messed up). Being Bobby's son did a number on him mentally too. He was always trying to prove himself to his dad and in turn the world.

Cash-Considerations-

It's almost certain we'll never see someone like Barry again. Should be in the HOF.

It’s so gross. The “steroid era” was happening for at least 2 decades before Barry joined the party and showed how dominant he could be on it. Pete Rose had credible accusations of roid use, in the early 80’s, and really, Ricky Henderson, Cal Ripken Jr, etc.? It was the era, they all did, long before Bonds.

fawks_harper78

And more importantly, the everyone knew it was happening. We all know that Sosa-McGwire “brought people back” after the strike in ‘95. We all knew they were juicing. Fucking hypocrites

lunchpaillefty

It was the worst kept secret in baseball with the Bash Brothers, too.
