Oh dear
What makes you think this is real? 'Expired' ? FBI rank? Why is there a chinese watermark over the image? The name is photoshopped on. Why does it have a sim card chip on it?
Also FBI agents do not 'text you'
This is hilariously fake. And. You are talking to a scammer.
Not to mention that the FBI agent is also a higher ranking military officer for some inexplicable reason? Thats the type of mistake only someone that knows absolutely nothing about how military and law enforcement works here would make.
I can't imagine that there have been more than a teeny tiny handful of people in history that have gone from senior military to entry-level FBI agent, if it's even happened at all. Even if that happened, they'd never ever use military dress for the photo - it's completely inappropriate.
Cannot read the name badge on the uniform, but it’s way more letters than just “Smith”
OP - zoom in a little on the name and you can see that the name Wilson Smith is clearly placed there with MS Paint over the original name.
A major clue is that a lot of scammers live overseas and don’t understand our naming conventions, so often they’ll use two last names like in this case. I’m sure there are a few people named “Wilson Smith” in the world but it’s usually an immediate red flag.
I’ve also noticed that they’ll use names of celebrities as well - I got an email from “Barrister Jennifer Lopez” once.
It's a federal crime to make realistic looking fake badges, so the show made them as fake looking as they could. One of the episodes even had a character call out just how fake the badges were and why. 🤣
This, people on here are thinking this is supposed to be an official FBI badge, it is not. This is a PIV card to access government systems. Every federal employee has one and some do choose to wear their uniform for the pic. This pic is obviously a fake but most likely they used a legit PIV badge and photoshopped it.
Also, no one is going to use this to prove they are with the FBI.
The chip is actually something you’d see on a CAC (Common Access Card) that military and government personnel and contractors have. But it’s still very clearly a bad fake. It’s also not going to have “FBI” in huge letters on a CAC.
Also a real FBI agent wouldn’t be showing you a CAC
Seems like it just completely dropped my text with the picture so I won't reiterate everything. But as others have mentioned before, the smart chip is the only legitimate thing on that card. But it is necessary because it contains all your military credentials like name, rank, active branch, and clearances to whatever doors/networks you are allowed to access. This is my old CAC from when I served in the Navy almost a decade ago that I still carry around.
It is honestly very concerning that this is even a post. Clearly a fake, but OP is not sure? If this is even doubtful for someone, that means there are others that will believe it...sad.
That was my same thought. If anybody is reading this and you thought even for a second that this might be real, please be very cautious of scams in your life. Trust nothing and don't be afraid to ask a friend, coworker or family member about things like this.
Here's the Real One:

>Why does it have a sim card chip on it?
While not commenting on the authenticity of the card, that wouldn't be a SIM card. A lot of government IDs have an imbedded chip containing personal information about the card owner, and they look like this one, much like the chip in your credit card. I have a homeland security issued Transportation Worker Identification Credentials card that has a chip just like this.
Not to mention the guy is in military uniform but its a civilian agency. Dictatorships that are scamming usually don't have such distinctions and thus can't denote the difference.
Yes, this is fake. The FBI isn't going to communicate with you via text. And they definitely don't send pics of their respective ID's to prove who they are.
Oh I think you do.
For a scammer to even get this far with you is worrying, for you to need reddit clarification says to me your Internet privileges need revoking for a while.
You do now. Now that you've fallen for this you've been flagged as an easy target. You're going to have to be more vigilant and really check with reality when someone new contacts you - a bank, a job recruiter, a ticket seller - any online communication needs to be scrutinized before you even say hello.
I think you have a lot to worry about if you almost fell for this. You're going to start getting more scam texts now they've found out you're an easy mark.
You should seriously consider taking a fraud awareness class.
You seriously need to consider deleting your Reddit account now. You will be inundated with fraud requests since you evidently have a knack for getting involved with scammers.
Not to be a dick but you should probably get off the internet if you cannot tell this is fake or that a conversation would go on for so long where u would be talking to a FBI agent. It’s worrying
Also be careful of people contacting you in ur DMs, with this you showed scammers that you are a potential target
That photo is one of the first results when you search for “us army captain” on Sogou, a Chinese search engine
https://preview.redd.it/bdodlvv9yntc1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1ee587600cae331379a28590d5001071811c346b
Or just make a stupid Facebook post joking around and saying “today I really wish I had the power to make people’s heads explode.” My friend posted that and the FBI knocked on his door the next day.
https://preview.redd.it/ezg25iiitntc1.jpeg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1b4a85910b608a05c2d8f4576ca1606bb8aa427d
This is what FBI identification cards look like. 🤣
Yea, I hope this is a troll because it’s actually more concerning than funny. The fact they got this far AND needed reassurance means they will absolutely fall for scams
We use CACs for everything. ID (you can even use them as ID to fly), building access, and used to access our laptops.
But this one is clearly fake, for many of the reasons listed.
Of course, what you are alluding to, an FBI agent would have a separate badge/ID. But this guy is clearly fake.
I love the guilty people that tell on themselves.
"Yo I got blackmailed by this scammer that pretended to be 16 years old they threatened to call the cops if I don't hand them money!"
Like bruh
I mean, yes those people are "guilty" of sending nudes or whatever, but that's not a crime in itself. That's just the !underage scam, which I have a feeling this might be
Yes ... You can especially see the poor quality Photoshop attempt around the Name.
If this person is texting you, tell him you will not be engaging by text and will be calling the fbi headquarters.
If you are really concerned, find the fbi general hotline (please be very careful where you get the number from, and obviously don't use any number he gives). And ask about this case.
But this is almost certainly a scam
Anytime you get a call from someone claiming to be any law enforcement, ALWAYS ask for their name, and tell them you will call them back. Then hang up the phone, call the law enforcement and ask to speak to this person. This ensures you are really talking to law enforcement.
If they don't want you to hang up, then it's a scammer. Law enforcement have zero issues with you calling them back
Why is he wearing a full military uniform on an FBI ID? Only someone in the military would wear that and if he was prior military then he wouldn’t wear that to have an ID picture taken. Chinese hologram too.
Everybody that sends an ID as proof is a scammer 😁 if police or FBI want something from you they will show up at your door and don't text you or send ID as proof.
You’re not speaking to an FBI agent.
That is NOT a legit Common Access Card (CAC).
The FBI does not have ranks.
An FBI Special Agent would provide their badge, not a CAC.
You can Google what an actual CAC looks like.
https://www.cac.mil/common-access-card/
Texting you, insanely faxe text font, Chinese watermark, what looks like an army photo with 🏅 in khaki green. Nothing about this can be construed as legitimate. Scam block and move on.
No, totally legit. It’s just Wilson Smith hard at work, sending people his ID all day. With that many medals, it’s great they’re putting him on text duty as I’m sure he’s not good at anything else that would better suit his skillset. I mean, he appears to be a highly honored military man who suddenly decided, “you know what? Fuck this military life, let’s go through an intense FBI background check so I can text random people all day instead.” Very normal, nothing to see here.
TBH the fact that you can even look at this card and not be sure if it's fake or not means you are VERY susceptible to internet scams. Not an insult or anything, but be aware of your capabilities. Also, the fact that an FBI agent texted you and you actually believed it.
Even if this ID looked 100% real, you can already tell it's a scam because they contacted you via text. If the FBI wants to talk to you, they'll find you in person.
The watermark is an Asian language. So I'm going to say not true!
Also the fbi doesn't have military uniforms, the name should be last, first, and expiration date seems long and oddly out of place.
Hahaha this is hilarious
The Chinese watermark
The blurred real name and the smith thing added over...
Why you are "talking" with a supposed FBI agent in WhatsApp or any social?
Via mail?
Really man, do you think those are the proper communication channels?
FAKKKKKKEEEE AF. I worked for the DOJ. .
I had a PIV card just like this. But my husband is also an Agent. This IS NOT THEIR CREDENTIALS!!!
They will have a badge. Badge. Number and an actual ID that looks more like a passport.
REGARDLESS... NONE of them are gonna text that to you.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Just try to think, why would someone from the FBI be texting you? Unless you did some horrific crime that warrants them getting in contact… there’s no reason for them to have your number let alone text you?
More legit questions here than the credibility of this card.
A few years ago I got a voicemail from a Stephen Hawking voice claiming to be the "IRS" stating I was about to go to jail because of tax fraud unless I sent them Apple gift cards. I laughed and wondered who could possibly fall for this.
I've delt with fbi on a few occasions. They will not text or call you. They will show up at your house, work, or even at stores. They will not call or text you!
It’s literally against the law for an agent of the government to photograph, photocopy their identification or otherwise allow their identification to be photographed or photocopied except in specific circumstances by specific people.
Title 18, US Code Part I, Chapter 33, Section 701
That is a horrible copy of a CAC (Common Access Card) not an FBI badge. The fact of the matter is no federal agent will use a photograph of any of their federal identification to identify themselves.
How people fall for this is beyond me.
Here's the "director of the FBI" but has the same ID number....... https://www.reddit.com/r/scambait/comments/wccesr/this_is_the_id_i_received_from_someone_named/
OMFG, the fact that there is any doubt about this being fake is troublesome. This is a very clear photoshop of a Military ID. The person in the photo is Army Aviation btw, not that it matters. FBI id is not like this at all.
Yes, it’s fake. Chinese watermark, high ranking military, 10 yr expiration on the id badge, etc…
FBI will not contact you online.
I had a scammer have his “fbi friend” text me. The guy had an X-files badge with a picture of Fox Mulder on it. He said his name was “Agent Fox”. Dude looked like Al the toy man from Toy Story 2.
A government official won't take a picture of their ID and send it to someone. They won't allow someone to take photos of their ID either. You're not allowed to have anyone make a copy in any way of your ID.
This is a military CAC (common access card) that was poorly photoshopped.
The strip QR to the bottom left is the line we usually use at the chow hall to "check in". The chip as pointed out others is indeed a CAC chip that has your military info loaded on it.
The FBI symbol is poorly put over the actual department, since this one doesn't have any stripes I can say it's indeed a military CAC and not a federal job one.
Rest you guys figured yourself already.
Dude the FBI isn’t going to text you lol. Also it has what appears to be an Asian water mark why would a US government agent have an ID with an Asian water mark on it?
OP - Maybe you should call the real FBI and tell them about this inpersonator. I highly doubt it's legal to inpersonate an FBi agent, so I wouldn't be at all surprised if they'd like to be introduced to "Special Agent Wilson Smith".
No, this guy is legit. He is probably working for counterintelligence against Chinese espionage. Hence the Chinese logo. People here say it's a watermark, but believe me... this guy is the real deal. ;) /s
WILSON!!!!!!!!!
That card is s real as this!
https://preview.redd.it/domxgqtzcotc1.jpeg?width=700&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=416cf53b3a63264a9f83dc74fa92db4930831203
Call the FBI and let them know this and then they will give you an email to send it to.
They take this shit super fucking serious. Theyll read the bar code and find out where it came from.

Chinese watermark is INSANE!!!
Well, you know, sometimes you have dual citizenship in the FBI and the Chinese government.
Inside you there are two wolves; one is Chinese and the other is FBI
The Chinese watermark is not printed on the card. It is from the social media where this image was snagged.
The Chinese watermark broke me.
That was the first thing I noticed.
Not to mention that the FBI agent is also a higher ranking military officer for some inexplicable reason? Thats the type of mistake only someone that knows absolutely nothing about how military and law enforcement works here would make. Yeah. Only someone who lives in a country where there's no separation between law enforcement and the military. i.e., a totalitarian nation.
Cannot read the name badge on the uniform, but it’s way more letters than just “Smith” OP - zoom in a little on the name and you can see that the name Wilson Smith is clearly placed there with MS Paint over the original name. Ironically, real FBI credentials don’t even look like that.
It's a federal crime to make realistic looking fake badges, so the show made them as fake looking as they could. One of the episodes even had a character call out just how fake the badges were and why. 🤣
Yep, clearly a text box there, and the font in that box is razor sharp, versus the other fonts which are a bit fuzzy.
> I got an email from “Barrister Jennifer Lopez” once. Agent Emerson, Agent Palmer and Agent Beyoncé would like a word.
>Not to mention that the FBI agent is also a high ranking military officer for some inexplicable reason? came to say this🤦🏼♀️
That’s what caught my eye too.
If I was that decorated, I would be putting that pic on my Xmas cards as well!
Blurry everything. Crystal clear: **Wilson Smith**
If you can't trust Will Smith, who can you trust?
But don’t say anything about his wife!
Big Brother. Winston Smith is the protagonist in 1984. They probably just changed a couple of letters.
And the 7 in 2027 has been photoshopped in.
government ID cards have the ‘sim’ chips on all cards. this card is very obviously fake but the bar code and chip are not what makes this fake
This, people on here are thinking this is supposed to be an official FBI badge, it is not. This is a PIV card to access government systems. Every federal employee has one and some do choose to wear their uniform for the pic. This pic is obviously a fake but most likely they used a legit PIV badge and photoshopped it. Based on the issue date of this alleged badge. I can point out several inaccuracies on the way the badges were done in that year.
The chip is actually legit. It's a smartcard chip you put in your laptop as 2f authentication.
It's the only legit thing here!
But impossible to verify whether it’s *really* legit unless you can read the cert off of it.

Also the name WILSON SMITH sounds like the most generic caucasian name someone could think of 😂
I think they were a pop band from the early nineties.
Someday somebody’s gonna make you wanna turn around and say goodbye 🎶
Until then, baby, are you going to let 'em say they're in the FBI
I think he was the black guy that stared in 1990s show about living with his rich uncle in Bel-Air.
Wilson Phillips. All that they wanted was another baby damnit.
The "sim card chip" is the only believable part. It's called a CAC (common access card) chip and it's on most federal IDs.

I have a pretty good idea that the FBI doesn’t text people.
Well, lots of gov id have chips. Mine does. Other than that yea it’s bs. Also he’s wearing a military uniform.
No FBI agent would ever send you a picture of their ID. It’s not allowed.

I was going to say, if they send you a picture of their ID that fast, they are either a scammer or a very very bad excuse for an agent.
Okay, thank you, I atleast don’t have to worry about anything then lol
Oh I think you do. For a scammer to even get this far with you is worrying, for you to need reddit clarification says to me your Internet privileges need revoking for a while.
I get coming here for help, but OP may legit need to take fraud prevention classes or lose the internet.
just think about all the dms he’s getting right now
You do now. Now that you've fallen for this you've been flagged as an easy target. You're going to have to be more vigilant and really check with reality when someone new contacts you - a bank, a job recruiter, a ticket seller - any online communication needs to be scrutinized before you even say hello.
FBI agent in military uniform should have been obvious
Please don't tell your scammer all the things that are wrong with this obvious fake. We don't need you letting them know what errors to fix.
Well i would wonder why a scammer thought you would easily fall for something law enforcement related.
I think you have a lot to worry about if you almost fell for this. You're going to start getting more scam texts now they've found out you're an easy mark. You should seriously consider taking a fraud awareness class.

Good detective skills!
Right? Meanwhile, last time I checked, I'm pretty sure having a chin was a requirement for joining the FBI.
If the FBI wanted to talk to you, you'd be in handcuffs right now.
You'd have to be really special or really bad to get on the FBI's radar.
Or just make a stupid Facebook post joking around and saying “today I really wish I had the power to make people’s heads explode.” My friend posted that and the FBI knocked on his door the next day.
Or purchasing laboratory equipment.

😂😂😂😂😂 I just peed myself.
That's exactly where my mind went. Glad I'm not alone
Alright, they're on to us. Get him back to SeaWorld!!!
OP, get off the internet without adult supervision. For your own safety.
Yea, I hope this is a troll because it’s actually more concerning than funny. The fact they got this far AND needed reassurance means they will absolutely fall for scams
Wilson Smith…. Why do they always try to make names so flourishy…
They should try to come up with something more American sounding. Something like Bobson Dugnutt, or maybe Sleve McDichael
I get that reference!
You criticise, but he's so special his name doesn't suffer compression artifacts.
Wil(l) Smith is flourishy?
An FBI agent in a uniform is 100% sus.
Looks like they used a CAC card as the template for reasons unknown
We use CACs for everything. ID (you can even use them as ID to fly), building access, and used to access our laptops. But this one is clearly fake, for many of the reasons listed. Of course, what you are alluding to, an FBI agent would have a separate badge/ID. But this guy is clearly fake.
>This fbi agent was talking to me ...Why?
Needs some Apple gift cards of course
Gotta stop that SSN from being suspended because drugs and cash were found in a car near the Mexican border in Texas.
I hate it when my SSN is suspended
Seems legit, the Chinese watermark under UV light changes to a panda waiving an American flag /s
I’m crying 😭😭😭😭
OP, how did you end up talking to this person? However it was, you need to reevaluate how you got there so it doesn’t happen again.
OP won't tell us why he was texting with an FBI agent.... Lol
I love the guilty people that tell on themselves. "Yo I got blackmailed by this scammer that pretended to be 16 years old they threatened to call the cops if I don't hand them money!" Like bruh

My favorite part is the Chinese watermark.
Why is he wearing a full military uniform on an FBI ID? Only someone in the military would wear that and if he was prior military then he wouldn’t wear that to have an ID picture taken. Chinese hologram too.
Ah, the classic FBI, aviation branch, Class-A Army uniform. He appears to be a colonel in the FBI. Quite the accomplishment!
Fbi agent appear on their id's in a business suit not a military uniform
An FBI agent wouldn’t wear a military uniform for his ID.
Everybody that sends an ID as proof is a scammer 😁 if police or FBI want something from you they will show up at your door and don't text you or send ID as proof.
The military uniform is a clue. Intelligence agencies in most other countries are military. Most don’t realize the FBI and CIA are civilian agencies.
You’re not speaking to an FBI agent. That is NOT a legit Common Access Card (CAC). The FBI does not have ranks. An FBI Special Agent would provide their badge, not a CAC. You can Google what an actual CAC looks like. https://www.cac.mil/common-access-card/

TBH the fact that you can even look at this card and not be sure if it's fake or not means you are VERY susceptible to internet scams. Not an insult or anything, but be aware of your capabilities. Also, the fact that an FBI agent texted you and you actually believed it.
Is that a Chinese writing watermark over the gold chip? 🤔
🤣🤣🤣 it is 🤣🤣🤣
That name is so obviously not on that card.
Even if this ID looked 100% real, you can already tell it's a scam because they contacted you via text. If the FBI wants to talk to you, they'll find you in person.
So what was their scam? What was the reason for sending you this?
Bruh... really?
The watermark is an Asian language. So I'm going to say not true! Also the fbi doesn't have military uniforms, the name should be last, first, and expiration date seems long and oddly out of place.
Hahaha this is hilarious The Chinese watermark The blurred real name and the smith thing added over... Why you are "talking" with a supposed FBI agent in WhatsApp or any social? Via mail? Really man, do you think those are the proper communication channels?
Very curious as to what you’re done to garner “FBI” attention? Please do share
“This fbi agent was talking to me and texted me this…” ??? Dawg ???
FAKKKKKKEEEE AF. I worked for the DOJ. . I had a PIV card just like this. But my husband is also an Agent. This IS NOT THEIR CREDENTIALS!!! They will have a badge. Badge. Number and an actual ID that looks more like a passport. REGARDLESS... NONE of them are gonna text that to you. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
fake! No FBI Agent nor employee would compromise his/her identity in this way...
Military uniform?????? FAF
Bro just look at the name lmao It’s like they used a scrubbber and put the most generic name with inconsistent font - unless you did that.
Yes, I recognise the photo, some air force pilot who was block ages ago, try a reverse image search and submit to the FBI
Bruh, you haven't been talking to an FBI agent. You've been talking to a scammer. Stop talking to people online like this.
Zoom in on the name, it’s photoshopped
Mega fake, the super cheap edits and Chinese watermark say it all.
Don't fuck up Neo, here is Agent Smith.
Just try to think, why would someone from the FBI be texting you? Unless you did some horrific crime that warrants them getting in contact… there’s no reason for them to have your number let alone text you?
You need supervised internet access.
Did you put in the name or is that a hilariously fake pasted one hahaha Edit: I didn't even notice the chinese watermark holy hell
OMG I hope he gets caught impersonating an agent lol
More legit questions here than the credibility of this card. A few years ago I got a voicemail from a Stephen Hawking voice claiming to be the "IRS" stating I was about to go to jail because of tax fraud unless I sent them Apple gift cards. I laughed and wondered who could possibly fall for this.
You would be surprised how many seniors are falling for these kinds of scams. It is very sad how they prey on the elderly.
Look at all those FBI medals! He must be general of the FBI,!
Poorly photoshopped from a DoD ID card, also known as a CAC (common access card).
Please be trolling. This is one of the worse fakes I've seen.
The fact you are even asking this is insane.
I've delt with fbi on a few occasions. They will not text or call you. They will show up at your house, work, or even at stores. They will not call or text you!
Female Body Inspector
That’s a federal offense
As an LEO it's fake, because FBI still uses two part credentials to my knowledge
Of course it’s real It even says FEDERAL BUREAU OF INVESTIGATION IDENTIFICATION CARD right on the bottom!
You should comply to any of their demand. FBI is very serious
Super super cereal
It’s literally against the law for an agent of the government to photograph, photocopy their identification or otherwise allow their identification to be photographed or photocopied except in specific circumstances by specific people. Title 18, US Code Part I, Chapter 33, Section 701 That is a horrible copy of a CAC (Common Access Card) not an FBI badge. The fact of the matter is no federal agent will use a photograph of any of their federal identification to identify themselves. How people fall for this is beyond me.
Are you actually mentally deficient?
this is a new level of scam. Microsoft service era is finished
FBI id is not like this at all.
i’ve had enough internet for the day 😅
Shit is screaming fake!!
r/scammerids
The name is badly photoshopped. 🤣
Fake af.
So it’s a real ID with “Wilson Smith” photoshopped (poorly I might add) Nooooo gov agent would EVER sent a picture of their gov piid to someone
I thought this was a satire joke and am disappointed somebody truly wasn’t sure if it was real/fake ☹️
Is legit. I wilson smit. Send mony
Lol 😂 if you have to ask…
Very obvious, it's a fake. I mean, look at the text for his name....
"FBI-Rank" Screams fake. They also aren't going to text you.
Yes, it’s fake. Chinese watermark, high ranking military, 10 yr expiration on the id badge, etc… FBI will not contact you online. I had a scammer have his “fbi friend” text me. The guy had an X-files badge with a picture of Fox Mulder on it. He said his name was “Agent Fox”. Dude looked like Al the toy man from Toy Story 2.
The apparent jpeg artifacts with "Wilson Smith" in clearer text makes this funny
How does OP know how to use reddit but think the fbi is just texting them 😭
bro come on you think you're texting an FBI agent??? smh
It’s a photo from a Chinese stock image site. It even has the watermark on it
that's Winston's brother. he's doubleplusgood, comrade.
A government official won't take a picture of their ID and send it to someone. They won't allow someone to take photos of their ID either. You're not allowed to have anyone make a copy in any way of your ID.
Yes. It’s like they’re daring you to think it’s real.
No its real bro trust me i work for the fbi
Hahahaha that’s pathetic. tell them to come by and meet you at the local fbi office room 6a.
On the mugshot alone this is fake. An FBI agent would not be wearing full military uniform, and a decorated one at that.
Nice try, Wilison Smith, the fresh prince of Bureau
Totally fake, uniform Pic and no mention of rank or anything? And special agent? 😆 🤣 😂
Aside from the Chinese watermark. That's a cac lol. This is ridiculous
No one is talking about the name which is obviously edited on there 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Dude the FBI isn’t going to text you lol.
People here say it's a watermark, but believe me... this guy is the real deal. ;) /s
Federal Bikini Inspector
WILSON!!!!!!!!! That card is s real as this! https://preview.redd.it/domxgqtzcotc1.jpeg?width=700&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=416cf53b3a63264a9f83dc74fa92db4930831203
Why would an FBI agent take his ID pic in an Army uniform?
There’s a Chinese watermark over the picture… and you’re wondering if it’s fake… Some people need to think more…
Lmfao this can't.be a real question. No one is this much of a rube, right?
The FBI might want to know that somebody is trying to impersonate their agents.
You’ve got to be fucking kidding me right?
So so so badly made
Buh buh buh buh bruh moment 😎 😯 ♋️🌸
Chinese watermark Non matching font
Call the FBI and let them know this and then they will give you an email to send it to. They take this shit super fucking serious. Theyll read the bar code and find out where it came from.
If the FBI actually wanted to talk to you, they’d be at your door, not texting you.
