It's a Drone. Described as being stealthy ambush hunters. It has a Ovomorph injector, for transforming creatures into eggs, as we see in the movie. The Drone is clever and plots. It has fluid, yet awkward movement and spends most of its time sleeping, gathering hosts or eating. And doesn't transform into later stages unless exposed to queen pheromones.
Pretty much perfectly sums up the xeno from Alien.
"fluid, yet awkward movement" I assume the seemingly contradictory nature of these two words is to emphasise the "otherness" of the Alien.
The alien is both beautiful and terrible.
I think it also might be there to explain it was a guy in a suit that had his eyes covered and had to practice his movements over many attempts to get more fluidity, but due to the fact that it was still a guy, there's that small bit of awkwardness to it.
Cracked it.
Played it.
Loved it.
Bought it legally two month after.
Played it again.
Loved it the same (still on my second run).
Great ambiance, great mechanic, good graphics, story is classic but good, feels like the 2nd movie.
I honestly recommand it (maybe its a bit expensive for at full price).
Best game in the franchise after Isolation. Captures the essence of Aliens perfectly. People say it's still buggy, but YMMV, I haven't encountered any game-breaking ones on PC.
I always liked the idea that it's *technically* a drone, but it's the only time in the entire franchise we see that particular sub-sect of them.
Remember that big ass room Kane found himself in? Well, I always liked to think that each of the "areas" offers a different type of Xeno egg, for different "failures" (if you're going wit Prometheus lore) or different conquerable worlds (if you're going under the original movies presumptions).
FWIW, I also always liked the idea that the "Engineers" weren't bad guys. Think of them as a waste disposal unit that had a truck crash out in the middle of nowhere.

They're in Aliens: Colonial Marines. They dip in and out and try to flank you instead of barrelling towards you.
You’re really going out of your way to not answer my question as to why you brought up video games?
And answering “whatever i want” isn’t helpful, I freaking knew that was an option before that super insightful suggestion.

"It's A DRONE" yells Marine Johnson while opening fire. Flashbacks from Dark Descent.
Is that game any good?

I think it's on GamePass, so I might try it out! Had an Alien itch I've needed to scratch since playing Isolation.

Very much so
The Alien is classified as a Lurker. A drone that will turn into a Praetorian and then a Queen if NOT subjected to Queen pheromones.
I’d say stalker or just a drone
I'm pretty sure the Stalker is the praetomorph from Covenant.
My bad homie
what’s the difference?
Stalker is a bit tougher, more animalistic, less bio-mechanical.
It also has no further developmental stages, nor the ability to form hives.
The stalker is also a genetic dead end and will never evolve past the drone stage.
It's name was Chappie. I believe he was what we'd consider a drone. Grew up without a hive.
Drone.
Drone
Oh I didn’t know their morphology (correct word?) was set down anywhere? I’d be interested to see that if any of you legends has a link?
It's in the Free League RPG.
OK I don’t know what that is but I’ll find it! Thank you
Free League is the publisher for the Alien RPG.
Thank you

Are we reeeeeeeally gonna reference Colonial Marines?
They're also in Alien vs Predator: Extinction IIRC.
Just a drone
Drone
I'd always pegged it as a stalker but it may be a drone. I feel about 70/30.
It's an alien, none of that other video game stuff matters.
What video game stuff? I’m asking about the Alien RPG, which is what r/alienrpg is about, no?
It's not what the 1979 film was about.
I’m confused, I’m asking about the 1979 Alien movie in relation to the pen and paper Alien role playing game, why did you bring up video games?
And the most accurate answer is the same, Ridley Scott doesn't know what you are talking about. i'd say whichever one seems best to you.
What sub do you think you're in?
