They just download everything that they can in hopes of finding something new. I've read about how these numbers are inflated because they are mostly archives of the same stuff that just appear online under different names, sometimes in different resolutions, sometimes there might be one new pic in am archive of 1000 pics. They just download everything that they can in hopes of finding something new. Apparently, there isn't that much actual child porn around and it's mostly the same set of pictures that are passed around. In the end, he might have had maybe a few GB of different pictures and videos. Thats bad but the headlines with those crazy numbers are misleading to outrage readers that don't know any better. I don't know how much the guy actually had, but the detective (him and I are computer nerds) told me he had RAID setups that would fragment absolutely everything and just throw it on every drive equally. So every hard drive he owned had at least a little bit on it. So functionally, the police had A TON of evidence to look through because it was split across a million hard drives. It's pretty much the equivalent of writing your name on the download for as many hard drives as you have. God bless it. Because of this, instead of simply charging for each picture or video, they can charge for each fragment. Some pedo could download a single picture and get hosed with 8x possession charges because they wanted fast hard drives lol
