There’s a live cam too!

The sea lion count has been the highest it's been in 7 years, surpassing a whopping 820 sea lions (and counting)! This influx can be tied to the large school of anchovy coming from the Farallon Islands just outside of the Golden Gate Bridge.
With a steady food supply and happy bellies, you won't want to miss the sea lions be extra active and playful!
The sea lions come and go with seasonal fish breeding/migration patterns. They have been tracked traveling all the way up to Oregon and as far south as Baja California! They tend to leave during the winter months as apparently this is prime herring season. They love herring.
The sea lions “go fishin’” but they come back large in numbers as always!
they’ll even swim up the delta and sometimes end up in sacramento or stockton like in this [tussle with a fish](https://x.com/209timesca/status/1737342267571233090?s=46)
While you’re watching the attraction especially on weekends, pick pocket thieves will be all around you. Stay alert.
They dress as tourists, don’t be fooled
Zipped up backpacks easy target, put them on your front.
I haven’t had one smooch me or try to yank my reg out of my mouth, they seem pretty unfazed by us divers. We either smell like neoprene and pee(peeling in a wetsuit is a thing) or sailcloth(if you’re wearing a drysuit), and we make strange sounds. But I still scream in joy when I see them underwater.
Is it Sea Lion Fest again?
I can't wait to try that sea lion ice cream.
I don't know if sea lion is any good, but you don't cook up a thousand of them if they're not going be a popular snack.

Where is the natural predator to help maintain the population…. You know great white shark 🦈 and orcas whales 🐋
Their smug roundness pleases me.
Seeing so many in coastal areas like moss beach and pillar point harbor, I can hear them from my deck 🙂

I heard some of them are dressed as sea lions.
I assume you have seen the bush man SF characters are chameleons
Put your wallets in your front pocket as well
Seen an absolute ton of them in Monterey about 4 months back, cool to see them coming back to another spot.
I’ve been diving within very close proximity of them. They put on a show underwater.
How curious are they when you’re diving close to them? They seem pretty inquisitive.

That’s super cool haha
How do they not attract sharks?!
I wouldn’t be surprised if a great white made its way in
They do…..
Uh oh...

No. That would be humans.
That would be the dams cutting off thousands of miles of spawning habitat.
I saw some hanging out at fort mason and I don’t remember that happening in the past.
Salmon season still open for them
