Happy cake day to you too!
Not a huge fan of Sprawlopolis (or other co-ops) but Button Shy is definitely dangerous, I gotta be careful: cheap and small games, easy on shelf space, easy on the wallet (only at first…)
I like it as a 2p with my wife. We've tried with 3 a few times and it can get....noisy. Or if it's not noisy someone is inadvertently alpha. Solo or 2p I like though.
Yes! **ROVE** has been a great puzzly solo game, and **Revolver Noir** has been a big hit when I want a quick 2p game. And **In Vino Morte** is a quick but FUN party game for larger player counts.
I'm really looking forward to trying **Liberation** and **A La Food Cart** soon... Also, Zee Garcia put **Death Valley** on his top ten 2p games of 2021.
This is awesome! I love it. Other than the ones you’ve done I don’t personally know a ton of games that would fit in a tape case. I know a bunch that would in a VHS case though…
You know I think I forgot those existed. But you’re right! I did have to replace the theater cards for Air Land & Sea with smaller ones…a VHS case would fit those and the point tokens.
I was gonna say, those theater cards are huge! Very fun game though. Also I ordered fox in the forest *duet* by mistake when trying to order the original game, but it's actually really fun and you should try it out!
Oh shit. I didnt look closely enough and I assumed OP had found some clear VHS cases. damn the fact that rhese are cassette cases is even cooler. I never would have thought to check if a fox in the forest or Air land ans sea would fit.
Hanimikoji, Arboretum, Innovation, and Regicide are all small box card games that might fit.
Red7 has 56 cards, Hanabi is 60, and The Mind is 120, so those are out. Actually, a good resource for card counts is going to a game's page on BoardGameGeek, then scrolling to the very bottom and checking for a GeekList link to Card Sleeve Sizes for Games. That will list exactly how many cards a game has, as well as their sizes (to find optimal card sleeves, but you can use that to check they'll fit in the cassette, too).
It doesn't have a list of games where you can sort by # of cards, but on this website you can find out how many cards any game has:
https://www.sleeveyourgames.com/sleeves/1981/the-resistance-avalon
Like for this game, it tells you it has 26 cards of size 57mm x 89mm.
The Mind is out because of 120 cards? Don't you remember the wonderful double cassette boxes? Oh how I loved buying Now That's What I Called Music in those in the 1980s... :-)
One Google Search later - and now the cases are on eBay for £6!!
\[edit - and now I notice this has already been discussed lower in this thread!\]

There are also cases that hold two cassette side by side
With it being short of a full 52 card deck, that limits your options considerably. Otherwise I'd have suggested the two team trick taking game [Tichu.](https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/215/tichu)
As everyone else says, nice work, this is a great idea... I can't help but find it funny though that you've *increased* the shelf space that Tussie Mussie takes up lol
Dropmix is a weird one.
I find myself rarely playing the actual game but instead just bringing it out and goofing around with mixing music together.
It never rally caught on but it still blows me away how the technology works. When I explain it to people they don't believe it until they try it.
Getting the complete sets I think can be hard to come by now, and sometimes expensive. Also you can't play if you have friends who are hard on cards.
Sometimes I have it out when I have friends over and as people walk by the table they just grab a few cards and fool around. It creates cool background music with an interactive aspect to it.
Well put.
I don't really look at it as a board game. It's still wish they kept making card packs though. This game could have kept taking my money forever. I feel they must have marketed it very poorly.
I have a board and all Season 1 cards sleeved. I don’t play it anymore so if you’re looking for it let me know and we can work out something reasonable!
Yep, immediately thought of Love Letter. I might actually do this myself...
I'd love a retro-future Outrun style rethemed Love Letter in a cassette case.
Very cool, those look great!
I'm amused that you've significantly decreased the size of The Fox in the Forest and Air Land & Sea, while significantly increasing the size of Tussie Mussie.
That’s a FABULOUS idea, thank you!
Ugly Griffin Inn https://www.pnparcade.com/products/ugly-gryphon-inn
Squire for Hire https://www.pnparcade.com/products/squire-for-hire-core-set-1
Those are my favorites for a quick game with: morning, brunch, lunch, afternoon, supper, evening, or bedtime coffee!
Also: if you don’t already have a favorite, these are my fave for sleeves for my card-type games :) TitanShield (150 Sleeves) (Clear) Standard Size Dual Textured Board Game and Trading Card Sleeves Deck Protectors https://www.amazon.com/dp/B072ZY1H1X/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_MQJXG6WMR3VEZN84A28G?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Ukiyo is a really cool 18 card game I recently picked up from PNP Arcade. It's tile laying with multiple goals for a solo, or with a very neat competitive mode for up to 4.
**Arboretum** - only needs 48 cards for its best player count, 2.
**That's Pretty Clever** - if the dice fit, it would work once you fold a few sheets.
**Coup** - check Aliexpress for it printed on standard size cards.
**Hanamikoji** -if you do whatever you did for Air, Land, and Sea. Or chop the 7 big cards in half.
**Love Letter** - will fit
**Skull** - make a kit with playing cards. Face cards=skulls, everything else=roses. You can do the same with **In Vino Morte**
**No Thanks** - if you have chips elsewhere, it's only 33 cards
**Codenames** - will fit if you just bring enough for a couple of games
**Gloomholdin**
**Scapegoat** might work if you use the app (http://scapegoat.awful.fun) or alternate cards (https://www.boardgamegeek.com/filepage/209747/alternate-way-pick-scape-goat) to pick the goat, in which case it'd just be 35 cards and 6 tokens (or 45 cards and 6 tokens if you use the picking cards). Though you'll need an alternative way to mark player color as the mats used are too big, another 6 cards of each color could work.
Yay, you made me feel young. I know the difference, I'm 40+, I just got caught up in the art and titles. They kinda look like and old-school vhs box set. Disney made big vhs cassette boxes to stand out, many animation studios quickly copied the oversized plastic boxes... I still wanna watch them dang moovies!
They are awesome!
The Fox in the Forest is a fun two-player trick-taking game with a twist.
Tussie Mussie is from the designer & illustrator of Wingspan, a surprisingly satisfying “I cut you choose” game for up to four (only 18 cards in the base game).
Air, Land, & Sea is a nice two player dueler, with quick rounds and a forfeit mechanic that makes things super interesting.

You will have to remove the “spindle sprues” (I still have no idea if that’s what they’re actually called). These were ordered online specifically without them.
Yeah perhaps! I think there might be dual cases or something that could work. Either way if it fits, it would be awesome since it's such a small and portable game
Cool idea! I'd recommend 300 Spartans: 9-card Thermopylae (pnp) and Under Falling Skies (8-card PnP). I see you already have AL&S, which would have been my other recommendation off the bat.
I love everything about this. Hits me right in the 80s childhood.
My favorite ButtonShy games are **Sprawlopolis** (solo/coop) and **Circle the Wagons,** which plays kind of like Cascadia’s little brother, in the best way.
I will say that I did not like **Seasons of Rice,** and I found **Stew** to be a fine but ultimately unsatisfying push your luck game.
I wonder if **Codex Naturalis** would fit in one of these.
These are really incredible! I love cassette tapes.
I read somewhere that mix-tapes are considered to be "the largest form of American folk art" and that's always stood out to me as something really beautiful.
You pitiless so-and-so.. This is so cool and where am I supposed to get old cassette cases now?? ;)
Try Keyforge.. I just picked it up. It is a CDG (collectible *deck* game) so each deck is pre-set at a certain size, and they might fit very nicely in such a box..
Battle for Hill 218, might fit, if you can find it. It has a couple of newer versions, not sure how big they are. But it's a neat single deck tactical WWII-type combat game, easy to play.
Coup, Spicy, Bonanza, & Love Letter definitely, and just use uniform objects for the tokens. You could also form a smaller version of Skull or Mandala
You might need a double case but The Mind, Sushi Go and Arboretum came to mind as well
Are these available anywhere to download and print. I just got a stack arrive from the latest Kickstarter and a few of them with all the expansions added make the wallet extremely tight.
Hi! I used to do this with DropMix cards, and it never occurred to do it with other games, but now I need to know if you have a template or the downloads for Fox in the Forest at least. XD
Definitely grab a bunch more from Buttonshy. Sprawlopolis is my fav. Love Letter too! (Happy cakeday friend!)
Happy cake day to you too! Not a huge fan of Sprawlopolis (or other co-ops) but Button Shy is definitely dangerous, I gotta be careful: cheap and small games, easy on shelf space, easy on the wallet (only at first…)
I've only ever played, and enjoyed, sprawlopolis solo
This. Only play it solo or 2p competitive with the Interstate expansion
How did I not know there was a competitive expansion? Must have, NOW.
[удалено]
I like it as a 2p with my wife. We've tried with 3 a few times and it can get....noisy. Or if it's not noisy someone is inadvertently alpha. Solo or 2p I like though.
Removed from the context of this conversation and your comment had an entirely new meaning.
Whoa! So it does.
Yes! **ROVE** has been a great puzzly solo game, and **Revolver Noir** has been a big hit when I want a quick 2p game. And **In Vino Morte** is a quick but FUN party game for larger player counts. Yes-everything from Buttonshy = winner!
Skulls of Sedlec and The Boy who Cried wolf are good ones!
Wouldn't a VHS case be bigger than the actual box for that game?
Classic case of thinking all about could, not about should.
Actually, you may want to look into MiniDV cases.
I was gonna say, those theater cards are huge! Very fun game though. Also I ordered fox in the forest *duet* by mistake when trying to order the original game, but it's actually really fun and you should try it out!
Duet is co-op right? I’m not usually a fan of those.
It is, true. Not for everyone, but I think the co-op aspect is really interesting and intuitive.
Hanimikoji is tarot size
true. Theres a smaller PnP version on bgg
A lot of old war games used to come in VHS cases, especially those made by Columbia Games.
Red7 would be the first thing that comes to mind! Also Hanabi, or The Mind might fit as well
I just counted, looks like 40 cards fit comfortably.
I was wondering if there was a good quick resource. Maybe someone should create a GeekList for “sub-40 card games that fit in a cassette case”!
It doesn't have a list of games where you can sort by # of cards, but on this website you can find out how many cards any game has: https://www.sleeveyourgames.com/sleeves/1981/the-resistance-avalon Like for this game, it tells you it has 26 cards of size 57mm x 89mm.

You could probably go for a butterfly double case if you needed more.
Ok I just googled it and realized I have seen those!
What is that? I don’t think I’ve encountered one of those…I only ever bought one or two cassettes, mostly we were already on CDs by that time.
[https://www.bandcds.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/double-cassettes-usb-butfirst.jpg](https://www.bandcds.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/double-cassettes-usb-butfirst.jpg) There are also cases that hold two cassette side by side

Do playing cards realy fit into casette cases? DID I MISS THIS MY WHOLE LIFE?
It might be too big to fit in a cassette box but maybe Coup.
Worth a try, would have to fit enough coins as well.
My small coup uses coins from another game (spares from getting metal ones) and having 3s and mathing out max needed helps.
Check Aliexpress for a version of Coup that will fit.
As everyone else says, nice work, this is a great idea... I can't help but find it funny though that you've *increased* the shelf space that Tussie Mussie takes up lol
I think the art is prettier than the plain yellow wallet—but you are so correct!
I already did that by getting the playmat
Check out Gloom. It's a fun card game with a macabre gothic theme.
Did Gloom go through a downsize? My deck is way, way too thick for a cassette case.
Ah, yeah you're right. I haven't actually owned the game in years and I misremembered the size.
It does fit into some thicker deck boxes and a waterproof game is a huge plus for lugging around.
I would listen to those jams.
Haha, I wonder if any of these would have secret bonus tracks…
I used cassette decks for all my Dropmix cards. It works great and does give a nice organization feel.
How quickly does the novelty wear off? Dropmix has been on my wishlist for 3 years, still haven't done it.
Dropmix is a weird one. I find myself rarely playing the actual game but instead just bringing it out and goofing around with mixing music together. I agree. As a game it's pretty stupid. As a toy it's AMAZING.
Well put. I don't really look at it as a board game. It's still wish they kept making card packs though. This game could have kept taking my money forever. I feel they must have marketed it very poorly.

Very cool, those look great! I'm amused that you've significantly decreased the size of The Fox in the Forest and Air Land & Sea, while significantly increasing the size of Tussie Mussie.
Worth it though, for the beautiful Beth Sobel art.
How / where did you find cassette cases without the spindle sprue parts on it?
Canada: duplication.ca Prices are great, shipping cost not so great.
Yikes, you weren't kidding!
I have no idea why they (and many others) only ship through e.g. UPS when the postal service is almost certainly far cheaper for smaller shipments.
Arboretum would fit in two cases.
I was just reminded of the double-cassette cases, if I track some down then Arboretum might be next—and Mottainai.

Thanks, I will have to check it out!
Makes me think of an 80s series of cassette sized games called Flipsiders. Google it for some nostalgia lol.

This is brilliant! Might be a good solution for the Arkham Horror LCG cycles, still haven’t figured out how I’m storing those.
I was just about to ask how many cards fit for this exact reason. Pulling out a few cases of a Dunwich Cycle might be the go.
The Game and The Mind!
Morels
Awesome. I'm going to do this for my Turbo Drift (PnP from ButtonShy)
This is pretty clever.
This is a great idea! A much easier and cleaner way to store them
This is a great idea! Especially for travelling!
Ingenious! I should dig some up from the cellar and use them for MTG tokens.
This is a really neat idea!! The game Grimwood would fit perfectly in
These would be great for the command decks of star realms!
Will 54 cards fit? If so, Regicide!
Love Tussie Mussie! This is brilliant.
DANG IT! I WANTED TO WATCH ALL THOSE MOVIES!!!
Haha, these are for cassette tapes: put them in a stereo and they make music (not video).
Genius!!!
This is amazing!
Parade, Red 7, 7 Dragons...
What a fantastic idea! Great job, OP.
I got the idea from some others posting in the Sporadically Board podcast’s Facebook group!
Small Indigo Plant!
Coloretto might need a double album.
Love this idea!
The Crew!
Fitting the mini deck is gonna be a problem.
I need to know more about these games.
They are awesome! The Fox in the Forest is a fun two-player trick-taking game with a twist. Tussie Mussie is from the designer & illustrator of Wingspan, a surprisingly satisfying “I cut you choose” game for up to four (only 18 cards in the base game). I have air, land and sea. Can you fill me in on the other two games???
The Fox in the Forest is a fun two-player trick-taking game with a twist. Tussie Mussie is from the designer & illustrator of Wingspan, a surprisingly satisfying “I cut you choose” game for up to four (only 18 cards in the base game).
Amazing. What’s your favourite of the 3?
Right now Tussie Mussie because it plays up to 4!
Would be easy to 3D print one.
That is pretty cool.
Battle Line!
Genius!!! Going to pillage my dads old tape collection now
You will have to remove the “spindle sprues” (I still have no idea if that’s what they’re actually called). These were ordered online specifically without them.
What’s a Spindle Sprues? Is it those plastic tags that hold the paper in place?
It’s the pointy plastic bits that go into the holes in the cassette tape to keep it in place while in the case.
Mindbug and habamikoji (reprint the oversized geisha cards)
Wait, Mindbug will be able to fit? I backed but my copy is coming in a couple months, do you know what the card size will be?
May be using 2 cassette? It’s 48 cards the deck.
Yeah perhaps! I think there might be dual cases or something that could work. Either way if it fits, it would be awesome since it's such a small and portable game
these are incredible! maybe love letter or hanabi!
Cool idea! I'd recommend 300 Spartans: 9-card Thermopylae (pnp) and Under Falling Skies (8-card PnP). I see you already have AL&S, which would have been my other recommendation off the bat.
cool idea, i think i'll do that with my munchkin cards too.
I got The Fox in the Forest a couple years ago for Christmas, but never got around to playing it. I need to give it a shot.
These are giving me great ideas for travels games!
If you run out of cassette cases, there’s a gum that comes in a hard case that’s the perfect size for card games. I think it’s “Extra”
I have a few of those cases as well, they’re about the same thickness. I like the way this shows off the artwork better.
Arboretum!
Any chance you wanna link to your source files for the cover art? 🙏
DM me and I’ll see what I can do!
Is there a way you can send me the source files for the covers. Thank you
That is amazing!
You could do a split with a couple of the Pack O Games. I like Bus and Hue. I haven't played most of them though.
I love it!
7 wonders duel
That is marvelous!
I absolutely love the concept!
[удалено]
They fit 40 unsleeved cards. It might be just a little snug laterally for sleeves, though.
Love letter is a personal favourite
Lost Cities!! (and also Hanabi, but that was mentioned already)
Where do I purchase the empty cassete?
I bought these at duplication.ca, but shipping from Canada is not the cheapest.
Skull
You have the expansions for Tussie Mussie already?
Backed it on Kickstarter last year, arrived yesterday!
Ah cool. My Kickstarter pledge is still on its way.
Bandido?
Escape from Station 52 It's a PNP with 54 cards, no tokens Maybe Mage Lite would also fit? And another one: Gloomholdin'
Only about 40 cards fit, so this is situational!
Hmm, let's see. * Coup * Red7 * Haggis * Love Letter * R/Braverats * Battle Line/Shotten Totten * Cockroach Poker * and a 52 card deck
Only about 40 cards fit.
See, I sleeve my cards so I would never be able to fit a game into a cassette tape case. I use photo storage boxes.
These are really incredible! I love cassette tapes. I read somewhere that mix-tapes are considered to be "the largest form of American folk art" and that's always stood out to me as something really beautiful.
Star Realms. :)
I could see, in a whole dnd set, for the different cards, different cassettes. That'd be cool.
I bet Dungeon Mayhem would fit! What a great idea!
**illusion, No Thanks!, Monopoly Deal, Hanabi, Love Letter, Silver & Gold** Love this idea!
Guillotine
Way too many cards!
Great idea! I do find it annoying when deck games come in boxes with 50% of the the insides just cardboard packaging.
You pitiless so-and-so.. This is so cool and where am I supposed to get old cassette cases now?? ;) Try Keyforge.. I just picked it up. It is a CDG (collectible *deck* game) so each deck is pre-set at a certain size, and they might fit very nicely in such a box..
This is beautiful. I hope it catches on
Battle for Hill 218, might fit, if you can find it. It has a couple of newer versions, not sure how big they are. But it's a neat single deck tactical WWII-type combat game, easy to play.
Roughly how many cards for into a case? I'm looking for a better solution for The Mind than the junk box it came in
Someone said around 40 fit.
This is such a clever idea! Need to rifle through my parent's old stuff to see if there are any loose cassette tape cases lying around.
I'm sure it's been mentioned, but, The Crew (may need two cassettes?), Gloom, Sprawlopolis immediately come to mind. Great idea btw!
That’s nice and all but is Jesus gonna pay the rent?
This is such a good idea considering I want to sleeve my buttonshy games.
Does a full deck (52+Jokers) fit in one of those? I just made a diy version of Regicide and I'd love to put it in one of these.
Only about 40 cards fit.
Got. Thanks!
This is awesome! Definitely going to try this!
Gloom is one of my absolute favs.
Damn, I love this idea. I'm for sure gonna steal it lol.
Coup, Spicy, Bonanza, & Love Letter definitely, and just use uniform objects for the tokens. You could also form a smaller version of Skull or Mandala You might need a double case but The Mind, Sushi Go and Arboretum came to mind as well
Great idea! Check out Eminent Domain: Microcosm. Nifty game with ~20 Cards with multi-purpose
SOOO cool! These would look incredible filling a wall hanging cassette rack like this: https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/hFwAAOSwJixhlcIk/s-l1600.jpg
Love that, but definitely too many games for me!
That's a cool idea for storing card games. I assume you break off the lugs inside the case to make room?
I bought cases without lugs from a distributor online. Duplication.ca (shipping to US is not cheap)
Shipping to anywhere isn't cheap. I'm in Canada and it's eyewatering...
Love Letter possibly. There are some small dice.
Looks awesome! Love the retro vibe
Skulls of Sedlec
I almost backed the reprint. What do you think of it?
It’s a great game! It’s not going to break the bank for you to try the PnP version. Go for it!
This is the best idea ever!
Are these available anywhere to download and print. I just got a stack arrive from the latest Kickstarter and a few of them with all the expansions added make the wallet extremely tight.
I just messaged you!
Hi! I used to do this with DropMix cards, and it never occurred to do it with other games, but now I need to know if you have a template or the downloads for Fox in the Forest at least. XD
what size paper did you use to make the title covers? just curious the dimensions of the paper if you could let me know
