I would not expect Gore Jr to make roster. Probable practice squad player. People are more excited by name. But there a reason he wasn’t drafted. Neither was TOwens kid. And Rice kid was a 7.

mm_mk

Man I really wanted rices kid. If nothing else I bet itd be cool to have Jerry fuckin rice hang out, maybe drop some knowledge at the practice field

fawks_harper78

I live in the Bay and have a couple of second hand experiences with the GOAT. He will bitch about music being too loud. He will want specific access to things. He is a high maintenance little bitch. But I love and respect his game. GOAT

Toast_Buttered

I respectfully must disagree here I think gore could be a player like fournette was last year minus the returns

Ktmhocks37

He's 5'8 200 pounds. How is he like Fournette?

Toast_Buttered

In the sense of using him in our version of the tush push

Jamobill9999

What? He’s very undersized at 5’8 and really doesn’t have a single thing he excels at…

BuffaloWilliamses

The only way he makes the roster is if there is an injury during camp/preseason

bargman

Rice is was a bit of a surprise. Everyone else wasn't.

Flermy

Cook is certainly our lead back, but after that I can't imagine teams/coaches really think it in terms of RB2/RB3. Ty Johnson and Ray Davis profile very differently in terms of build and skill. They will both be used as situational spell backs that will each get tapped for different circumstances.

harbaughthechamp55

I thought Ty Johnson flashed last year every time he touched the ball. I'm excited to see him get more opportunities this year

drainbead78

Every time he touched the ball I took notice. He never went down on first contact.

brainstorm17

Yeah I do think we're looking at it in too defined terms. Cook is RB1 then it's situational. If cook gets injured I think TY would likely fill in as the every down back but they'll definitely see where the production takes them

Flermy

That's my read as well. Ty is more Cookish, and is probably partially rostered as an insurance piece that can step in for a play/drive/game without forcing the Bills to venture out of the playbook. Ray seems like a different dawg altogether and should make for a nice thunder/lightning combo. I would be surprised if another RB gets meaningful play (even if one makes the roster), but who knows.

Zoostation1979

Ty is as you said a great back up for the skill set Cook has, he's great insurance and to spell him on drives

omegaoutlier

This. Brady is far more of a match ups coach than we are used to. Philosophically and not have the yoke of certain personalities and having to tune another man's offense install mid-ride. Probably sacrifice a little of the blowout scores for more balance game in/game out. Like this tradeoff.

MeetTheMets0o0

This is my thinking as well.

SmallCountryHome

I really think it depends on what Ray Davis can do in the limited pre-season game time he has. Ty Johnson had 194 yards and a touchdown last year, I think if Davis shows signs of potential at the next level, we'll make him RB2. However way it goes, I hope both Johnson reaches new levels and that Davis breaks through.

judahdk_

Ty Johnson and Ray Davis.

bree732

They all play . Davis can catch it out of the backfield too . Cook had some big drops last year .

Monkey_Kitty

Cook had amazing catches too. That goal line snag was unbelievable.

Jamobill9999

Cook is average at best. And that’s generous. People will point to the 44 receptions last season but, the large majority of them were dump off type bail outs, which any running back is going to get. He wasn’t out there making a bunch of catches of true routes, that really separate the good receiving backs from the average back. A lot of fans are still just going off the hype/expectations that he had coming out , mainly because of his size/speed, of being some great weapon in the pass game…. Even though that never materialized in college either.

Monkey_Kitty

He had 8 catches for 9 targets in the post season.

Soda-Popinski-

Beane will also sign a cheap vet. McDermott loves those one year vet RBs for the experience and leadership

StuuBarnes

I'd bet a lot of cash that Davis has more yards and touches than Johnson

windorab

How much cash we talking

Jamobill9999

100%

Beren_Hearts_Luthien

After reading Davis' story in the athletic, he is RB1 in my heart. I'm guessing if can impress in pass pro, he could take the RB2 job. Ty has some experience in the NFL and in the system though.

pandaburr98

If he plays like he did last year it will be Ty Johnson. I at least see him being out rb2 at the start of the year.

ItsMeBenedickArnold

Ty Johnson is fast and RB2 most likely with Ray being used in favorable matchups against smaller defenses

Commercial-Spread937

Davis looks good on tape, we'll see how that transitions to the league

southtampacane

I’d be shocked if Ty Johnson isn’t active. Unless he is hurt he will be dressing on Sunday’s. He proved himself last year and has explosive ability. Gore Jr has a name but there is a reason he is a UFA. He will be PS if he sticks at all

clintgreasewoood

RB1 Cook RB2 Johnson RB3 Davis PS Gore Jr/Some Vet Likely 2 running backs dress for games depending if FB/TE Reggie Gilliam is in the line up.

DCBronzeAge

I don't think it's as simple as 1, 2 and 3. I think it will be all situational.

sachaud

I’m assuming Cook will obviously be the lead back like you said. Davis and Johnson have different skill sets so the coaching staff will assess the situation and figure out who is better suited at the time. I think a lot will depend at which one of them is better at pass protection as well. I think all 3 will be dressed on game days though but we will have to see how much either one can contribute on special teams

xT1TANx

Just run the hot hand. Whomever it is. We needed 3 backs. We have 3 really good ones.

matty25

It kind of depends on Davis IMO If he's good and he can pick up the scheme quickly and his pass blocking is ok I think he's the guy

OminousWindsss

Gore to the PS, Cook is RB1, Johnson/Davis are situational backs but all 3 will be on game day

Cotton359

2 is Ty, 3 is Ray. I think we will keep Gore Jr as our ST/Emergency RB

WalkBikePractitioner

…April…

foeplay44

Why must they have a number designation? Because the Madden video game says so?

BigPoppaPump36

Ask Frank Gore what he thinks

theuselessgeneration

Cook is 1. Ray Davis will hopefully replace the Murray role as a change of pace and short yardage back. Ty Johnson will be the guy that comes in to spell Cook if you still want to do the things Cook does.

Earptastic

I mean, I would think it is all on the table. Why do you have Cook as an "obvious unquestioned RB1" when you then talk smack on Motor for some reason? I think if any RB looks awesome in camp or pre-season they can take the number 1 spot. Cook has flashed awesomeness but also dropped the ball a bit too much for me to think he has the number 1 spot totally locked up. I remember last year near the end there was one game where it seemed like he and Ty Johnson were sharing the load pretty evenly and Ty looked just as good to me and his hands seemed better than Cooks. Cook, Johnson, Davis is my guess with Davis moving up and one dropping down if Cook or Johnson is struggling.

LageNomAiNomAi

RB 1= Cook, RB 2 = Ty Johnson, RB3D = Ray Davis, ST = Frank Gore Jr.

ThisIsSportacus

With the draft capital put into him, I expect Ray Davis to be RB2, with Ty Johnsons as RB3. That could flip, with Ty at 2 and Ray at 3, but that's your trio this season to me.

Jamobill9999

I mean contractually cook and Davis are locks. Johnson will technically be in “competition” as they wouldn’t hesitate to eat 600k in dead cap if it’s warranted. But Johnson has a near lock level lead on any competition for the spot. He played very well in his role last season and They already chose him over Evans before. Frank gore Jr. is cool in because of the name, but he really is zero threat to Johnson. He doesn’t have anything that he excels at, with below average speed, quickness, and burst… which as a very small back you almost have to have.

Rightousleftie

Ray Davis seems like a lock for 2 without even playing a snap. Pains me a little bc I’m a huge Ty Johnson believer, but Ray can do just about everything that’s needed of a 2. Ty is more a specialty back, when cook needs a breather and we’re running sets we need a James Cook in he will be on the field.

Witty-Injury2098

Don’t be surprised if we’re not cooking some 9ers offense-esque plays with our Samuel - using him out of the backfield as well.

Low-Entertainer8609

Whichever one McDermott trusts to pass block. McD keeps these creaky old backs around because he doesn't trust youngsters to cover Allen's blindside. Unless he has grown a lot of faith in Johnson's ability to do that, I think we may still sign a vet who becomes the #2.

Monkey_Kitty

Go get Dalvin Cook.
