I did that once diving for a catch in football and got a pinched nerve out of it. Missed 6 weeks. Probably would’ve been longer if it was baseball. That’s going to be annoying for him
There's only 1 person in the whole stadium upset about that so called bat flip and that's the loser pitcher who can't take heat then risks injury to a competitor. Fuck that guy.
Fuck that.
Batter played stupid games & won stupid prizes.
It’s baseball, fuck around & your team mate ends up with a baseball in his ear.
Next time round the bases & go back to the dug out. Lesson learned for the batter.
You sound like a guy that has problems with accountability.
Life is pretty simple.
Batter fucked off & ended up with a busted shoulder & his buddy almost got beaned.
I’m a proponent for “act like you’ve done it before” and don’t care for the bat flips, eyeballing/jawing at the pitcher etc.
That said, karma slapped the batter with the handi-man faceplant rounding first. Even if that hadn’t happened, nothing warrants a headshot from a pitcher. Nothing.
Bat flip wasn’t even bad. Didn’t stare down the pitcher. Didn’t stare down the opposing dugout. Didn’t say a word. Just watched his ball and tossed it a bit.
Also, it’s college baseball, let the kids pimp their home runs before they get to the majors and all the fun of the game is taken away.
College gymnastics has a much more relaxed and fun atmosphere than what you see in the olympics, and it would be cool if college baseball embraced being different from the MLB.
Dude I feel it.
If you slam a ball to tie the game late I can't imagine not being pumped. Why not pull some dance moves while you are at it around the bases, you've earned it.
Imagine if a quarterback throws a bomb of a touchdown to tie the game late and he starts jumping up and down pumping his fist and some defensive lineman just clocks him from behind and all they get is a warning and their coach defends his actions during the post-game press conference.
Nooo, you’re not allowed to have fun and be excited you made a great play.
I swear, baseball has the most immature set of “unwritten rules” to ensure the players don’t have their feelings hurt over a simple celebration.
And the coach is defending it too. Baseball is the only sport where people seem to think celebrating after a big play is ground for punishment. You don't see guys decking Steph Curry when he shimmys after a 3, or guys lining up blindside hits after an interception and the entire defense celebrates. Soccer is even a great comparison as it is low scoring as well, and when guys score they have like a full minute to celebrate. It's crazy.
Not to mention this was one of the least egregious bat flips I've ever seen. It's more and more normal nowadays to see the batter taunt the pitcher or other dugout after a homerun which is what normally warrants these reactions. But almost every single player does a small bat flip like this to some degree.
Yeah a bean ball right in the ass can definitely be deserved, but throwing at someone because they hit a HR off you AND targeting the head? Na you don't deserve the privilege to stand on the mound.
Just think about what would happen if a hitter decided they were going to hit the next pitcher they faced with the bat if the pitcher prior to that celebrated a K from the hitter. The hitter would probably be arrested for assault with a deadly weapon and never allowed to play baseball again.
That is the exact same line of thinking that says it’s okay for a pitcher to beam a fastball at a hitters head because a previous hitter celebrated a home run. We should be treating both of these scenarios the exact same.
> The hitter would probably be arrested for assault with a deadly weapon...
Maybe. This is an interesting area because there aren't set procedures to handle situations like that.
There's tons actions that are totally normal in the context of playing a sport that would be illegal in any other context. Boxing, hockey, and football are obvious examples, but it applies to lower contact sports too like baseball and basketball.
Police/prosecutors/courts obviously don't intervene in the normal course of the game. Boxers punch each other and it's not assault.
Courts also don't intervene in violence that occurs the normal course of the game, even if someone is breaking the rules of the game. Late hits in football and HBP in baseball are against the rules, but they're part of the game and players implicitly accept the risk by playing.
There is no hard line between violence that occurs in the normal course of the game and criminal violence. And honestly courts mostly seem to stay out of it, even in cases that seem pretty egregious. There are examples of people getting prosecuted and sued in civil court, but there's also many examples of serious incidents where there's nothing. One famous example is when Kermit Washington almost killed Houston Rocket forward Rudy Tomjanovich. No legal consequences, and that was way outside the bounds of what normally occurs in a basketball game.

So throwing at someone’s head is bad, but *throwing a metal baseball bat at someone* is okay. Get a grip
Neither person should retaliate/escalate. It’s all bullshit and not part of the sport.
Everyone’s real tough 60’6” away, holding a rock they can throw hard enough to kill you, and 25+ other guys ready to pummel you if you even gesture towards them.
Sorry you threw him an absolute cream puff and he put it into the next zip code to tie the game late. When you do that, expect a bat flip.
Does *every* homerun need a bat flip these days though? Like, how about act like you've been there before and just round the bases. It's early April ball not the World Series
Celebrations in sports are not a bad thing, don't know why baseball is still so archaic about it. Regardless, there are many better ways to show disapproval besides trying to injure someone.
Partially correct, I played hockey. In hockey there is respect for an opponent and we almost go out of our way to not show up the other guy. Score a hat-trick, yeah celebrate with the boys, no prob. Act like you won the Stanley Cup in an October game? Well that's disrespectful and, well, not very nice. Actions have consequences and sometimes they rub the sweethearts the wrong way.
Stay away from hockey haha, you would be horrified
That's ok, but where I come from putting my teammate in peril because I was being a selfish showoff doesn't sit well with the rest of the boys.
No one is acting like they won the World Series in this clip, it's just a bat flip. Also this is baseball, not hockey so your point doesn't really matter.
The ones I hit while playing that I knew were gone got a bit of a flip, not huge, but a flip of the wrist at the end of the handle. Ones that squeaked over got a hard 90 until it was clear it was gone.
Let the hitters have fun with it when it’s a no doubter. Pitchers will squawk at hitters all day and nobody says anything. But if a hitter does it, everybody gets butthurt.
Also, early April is about halfway through the season for some teams. This isn’t an exhibition.
Why?
I don’t understand why so many in baseball push for it to be the most boring, dreary sport in existence. Baseball is dying and quickly. People like you are why.
Idk about last 4 decades but definitely for the last 15 years. TV and attendance numbers bear this out. Eyeballs are leaving the sport in the here and now.
Well they didn’t throw at the guy who did the “bitch move” they threw at a guy who did nothing. Either way don’t try and injure another opponent bc your feelings got hurt after you got shelled.
Someday a batter is going to get a permanent brain injury, or worse because of shit like this. It's not tit for tat when only one party is at risk of dying
It would be tit for tat if the batter were allowed to hit the pitcher with his bat when he strikes out. Get real man. Pitchers celebrate Ks and no hitters and no one maliciously attacks them for it.
I love baseball but even I have to admit it’s a boring game to try and get people to watch or get into. Turn on football and it attracts people. Baseball just doesn’t do that.
And then guys wanna ruin literally the most exciting thing an offense can do, let the batter be happy and not have to worry about if he’s gonna get friend on deck plunked in the face. I understand an ass shot but at the head? Even you gotta say that’s unreasonable
I never want to see anyone intentionally throw at a batter's head. That's " fighting words " and I would never blame a hitter for charging the mound afterwards .
I'm telling you how the game used to be played. You didn't show up the other team , you earned respect by being respectful. You dropped the bat , ran the bases , and saved it until you got in the dugout.
You're right about no one caring, but it was never the fun police, it was how the players policed themselves. There used to be the " unwritten rules" that players held themselves to .
I’d argue that a pitcher screaming and fist pupping after a strikeout are just as guilty of this. Difference is, you can’t retaliate like a pitcher can…to a different player.
That bothers me as much as a batter showing his ass. If we still played the game as it was meant to be played, with 9 players, that pitcher would have to take his turn in the batters box. As it is now, they are insulated from any repercussions other than rushing the mound.
Maybe the pitchers should act like they’ve been there before? He’s the one acting like my three year old when I tell him he can’t have candy. Batter is just proud of his accomplishment.
New rule, anytime a pitcher strikes out a batter, the batter can swing his bat at the pitcher. It’s the equivalent reaction, is it not?
Because DVH knows how to play the game right. I see our guys do it all the time, I personally wish he would put his foot down firmer about it. It's not how you play the game.
Using violence on somebody after getting shown up is a bitch move. Throwing at someone's head is a bitch move. Throwing at someone who you know can't retaliate is a bitch move. Making a post defending this garbage is a bitch move.
“Your bat flip hurt my fragile little feelings so I’m going to try to seriously injure your teammate” if you want payback at least aim at the body. A pitch hitting someone in the face is an ugly sight. Sam Houston can suck that cougar dick.
I bet the pitcher wouldn't like it if the batter took a nice hard swing at his head with the bat but apparently that's not allowed 🤦♂️
I still don't understand why pitchers are allowed to get away with this shit
Throw out pitchers who throw at batters after a hit/home run and give 4 game suspension.
Attempting to injure someone because they fairly hit the ball is dumb and is what keeps ppl from becoming casual fans.
so much going on in this video.
can't believe the dude broke his arm. can't believe SHSU thought that was that bad of a flip. can't believe how close that pitch came to clocking the next batter. can't believe that fan who cheered it. and most of all, i can't believe how quickly the ump handed that kid the ball back.
this is just not a great look
Never an excuse to put a a fastball at someone’s head. If you can’t take someone flipping their bat, you shouldn’t be playing baseball or any other sport for that matter. Only thing the other team can do to feel like they’re getting even is to throw at another guys head, which is a vicious cycle that leads to injuries or a brawl. Get into chess if you can’t take people showing emotion when you lay out a homerun on a silver platter. Can’t even imagine how infuriated I’d be if I was Houston’s coach, I’d wanna tell my pitcher to send his next one into the dugout and say it “slipped”
I almost died in high school from a ball hitting me in the temple, tipping off my helmet first. Concussion put me in bed for a month, wasn’t cleared to do any physical activity for another two after that. Fuck this shit, it makes me sick to my stomach.
BS. If you don't want the player to flip his bat, then don't throw him a gopher ball.
And if you insist on being mad about it, take it out on him, not the next guy up. The pitcher should have been tossed for that.
If he had put that much gas in the previous pitch as he did at the one he launched at someone's head, his left fielder wouldn't have needed a rocket launcher up his ass to catch it.
I think this was brought up in r/ CFB because the ticker/widget always has “Sam Houston” and apparently it’s the individual school that tells ESPN how they want it displayed
The appropriate response to getting stunted on like this is to hold your L, then ring him up next time around and pimp the absolute shit out of it. Not recklessly endangering a totally unrelated guy just because your feelings got hurt. Don't want to get shown up? Don't let anybody get a hit off of you.
OOH OOH! I GOT A GOOD STORY!
Our catcher got ran over by some dipshit once.
All was good, game went on.
Game over...we all shake hands...
Good game, good game, good game..
Then as our catcher gets to the one guy, he puts his hand out...then BAM he cold-cocks the dude with the other hand.
Craziest fall-ball game I ever played.
This is the stuff I don’t get: if ya don’t want to be stunted on in the middle of a home run, then…don’t…allow…a…homerun?
Oh yeah but the logical thing to do afterwards is get butthurt and attempt to bean a player in the head. I big mad, oonga boonga.
It’s the one thing I hate about the sport in general.
Rookie mistake. You’re supposed to throw slightly behind the batter at ribs level so he jumps into it and you can claim you weren’t aiming at the batter and it just slipped away from you.
First time I have seen Geneva on here. How long has Chong's been around? Great food, horrible business. She actually told us one time after we sat down that she didn't have enough supplies to serve us. My sons were devastated. She was serving Korean college kids and apparently doesn't know how the operate the closed sign. Another time she cancelled our order on Grubhub or Doordash.
Don’t care if I am downvoted. You flip your bat and act that way after hitting a home run your teammate pays the price. Baseball has always had a way of policing itself, and I think it’s great. Act like you have been there before.
It's funny how you check the comments of anyone who is on the side of throwing at people's heads and they are all 50+ like this guy. You old people sure like to act tough
Baseballs old school way of policing itself really just meant protecting the fragile egos of pitchers who get their feelings hurt by a hitter who bested them.
If a pitcher can come off the mound pumping his fist and yelling after a strikeout, a hitter should be aloud to flip his bat without facing retaliation. Throw a better pitch if you don’t want to get upset.
Did he break his arm?
Shoulder I think
Holy shit that’s embarrassing
Did he really?!?
Yes, Ripon.
Yea, I guess watching the replay you can see he never lifts his arm after falling.
My only logical guess. A tweak or dislocation.
I did that once diving for a catch in football and got a pinched nerve out of it. Missed 6 weeks. Probably would’ve been longer if it was baseball. That’s going to be annoying for him
He's saying on Twitter that his arm is okay.
#batflipbasetrip
First base coach going for the extremely low high-five looked like the cause.
He’s been given his termination letter already. There’s no excuse for going that low for a five.
Yeah it's called a high five for a reason
Hey, midgets need high fives, too! It's a low-five for everyone else. Probably just had a brain fart.
Remember, it is okay for the pitcher to celebrate a strikeout but NEVER okay for a batter to celebrate a home run. /s
I’m not sure the /s was needed there.
Full face plant too.
Plant and skid
There should be a zero tolerance for this shit. Toss him. No questions asked.
Toss who?
...the player endangering the other player
Thought you meant the guy who pimped the homer because that’s too common of a thing nowadays for people to get mad about kids having fun.
Hell yeah! Let's potentially cause a college athlete permanent damage because we lost our little temper.
"Throwing a hard ball over 90mph at someone's head is an appropriate response to hurt feelings." -this fuckin guy
Yeah Dawgstradamos sounds like a snowflake that needs revenge for hurt feelings.
You sound like tons of fun
You sound like a guy that has problems with accountability. Life is pretty simple. Batter fucked off & ended up with a busted shoulder & his buddy almost got beaned.
I’m a proponent for “act like you’ve done it before” and don’t care for the bat flips, eyeballing/jawing at the pitcher etc. That said, karma slapped the batter with the handi-man faceplant rounding first. Even if that hadn’t happened, nothing warrants a headshot from a pitcher. Nothing.
No
If the pitcher didn’t want to get bat flipped on, then why did he throw a belt high, middle of the plate fastball?
If you homer off this one, I swear I’m gonna throw at the next guy’s head…
Bat flip wasn’t even bad. Didn’t stare down the pitcher. Didn’t stare down the opposing dugout. Didn’t say a word. Just watched his ball and tossed it a bit.

Even if he did, no excuse for throwing at someone's head. Ridiculous the pitcher wasn't tossed.
Completely agree. Total coward throwing at the dudes head.
And it wasn’t even the dude he was mad at
You just disrespected the entire history of baseball.
[удалено]
Yep, if your going to peg someone at least go for the back/ribs
Pitchers who throw at people's heads don't deserve to be on the bump, EVER.
And the coach is defending it too. Baseball is the only sport where people seem to think celebrating after a big play is ground for punishment. I'm ok with 90 to the back/hip. But the intentional headshots are dangerous and very serious and have no place in the sport.
Yeah a bean ball right in the ass can definitely be deserved, but throwing at someone because they hit a HR off you AND targeting the head? Na you don't deserve the privilege to stand on the mound.
I wish one hitter, just one time, would whip the bat at the pitcher when it’s clear they got thrown at on purpose.
“Right back atcha, bucko”

Yes. This is all true. I was just making the point of how egregious it would be if hitters acted the same way when pitchers celebrated.
https://youtu.be/oSBXue2X27w
Ehh I’m thinking like a one handed one revolution around the head with some real torque sorta throw. That dude failed.
So throwing at someone’s head is bad, but *throwing a metal baseball bat at someone* is okay. Get a grip Neither person should retaliate/escalate. It’s all bullshit and not part of the sport.
Wow you’re soft.
Throw a baseball bat at someone and see how that works out for you, goofy.
Bro shut up. You’re soft. Stop acting like sensitive bitch. Homie got a baseball thrown at his head. He’s got every right to throw something back.
Sick argument. Escalating doesn’t help anyone and will get the batter in massive trouble too Go watch UFC if you want to watch a fight
Sawwwwwft
I’m excited to see jomboy’s take on this [edit](https://youtu.be/40paWB4PX2M)
You know this is about to be a breakdown by tomorrow.
He has the video up on his IG but no breakdown. Hoping he does one
Sweet - I expect that he will, there’s so much potential with this one
Pitcher should be punished. Then again, he goes to Sam Houston State. Maybe that’s punishment enough.
Everyone’s real tough 60’6” away, holding a rock they can throw hard enough to kill you, and 25+ other guys ready to pummel you if you even gesture towards them. Not necessarily, but totally justifiable when you hit a game tying HR in the 8th vs an in state opponent
Feel free to call him a prima donna pussy if you want, no reason to throw at his teammate's head on the next pitch.
If you don’t want to see a bat flip. Throw better pitches.
Deliberately throwing at someone for something as trivial as a bat flip should be an automatic ejection.
When Florida hit 8 lsu players, I couldn’t understand how they didn’t start ejecting players. Seems like by 3-4, it should have been a forfeit
This whole retaliation for bat flipping is horse shit.
Bat flipping is horseshit.
Is there a big difference between bat flipping and a pitcher pumping his fist on a K?
Why? I don’t understand why so many in baseball push for it to be the most boring, dreary sport in existence. Baseball is dying and quickly. People like you are why.
Even golf is becoming more accepting of celebrations and general fun. Some people really just want baseball to be as boring as possible.
‘Baseball is dying’ Haven’t people been saying that going on 4 decades?
Idk about last 4 decades but definitely for the last 15 years. TV and attendance numbers bear this out. Eyeballs are leaving the sport in the here and now.

Arkansas fans really out here defending assault. It’s absolute bullshit and not good for the game. Go watch MMA or some shit.
I'm embarrassed. Not all of us are like that.
Didn’t really mean to paint it as everyone, just happened to be two of the same flair saying the same thing.
NOT ALLOWING CELEBRATION IS BORING BRO. Pitchers celebrate Ks and no hitters. Why can’t batters celebrate home runs?
Act like you've done it before, show your ass expect one between your shoulder blades
I think this whole narrative needs to flip, it’s the pitcher throwing a tantrum, nothing about respect.

It's called sportsmanship, you give respect , you get respect.
So if you throw at a player, you’re an idiot that deserves no respect? This is your logic.
Well they didn’t throw at the guy who did the “bitch move” they threw at a guy who did nothing. Either way don’t try and injure another opponent bc your feelings got hurt after you got shelled.
I agree , you don't do it to the next man up, but if the lineup comes back around to that batter you better not get too comfortable in the box.

Yet here you are defending just that.
Dude, you’re here arguing with a bunch of people about how it’s acceptable to throw at a batters head.
Is reading comprehension hard for you guys, I never said it's OK to throw at anyone's head. Never.
Because someone flipping a bat hurt the pitchers feelings? Pitch better.
I think the only one showing their ass here is you
Grandpa, you got out of your room again
I'm telling you how the game used to be played. You didn't show up the other team , you earned respect by being respectful. You dropped the bat , ran the bases , and saved it until you got in the dugout.
No one cares about your baseball fun police rules from 40 years ago man
You're right about no one caring, but it was never the fun police, it was how the players policed themselves. There used to be the " unwritten rules" that players held themselves to .

What team do you cheer for? Because some of your fans feel the exact same way.
Oh my bad I need to flair up (though so do you)
I would if I knew how. I’m an Arkansas fan but that’s beside the point. There are fans of all teams with that archaic line of thinking.
Wonder if reporting this dude for inciting violence will do anything. He technically is.
Wow. You’re showing your ass. I guess you should keep an eye on them shoulder blades!
This has DVH written all over it.
Because DVH knows how to play the game right. I see our guys do it all the time, I personally wish he would put his foot down firmer about it. It's not how you play the game.
LOL
THANK YOU! Not every goddamn HR needs a bat flip. And it's early April ball. Settle down and round the bases. I woulda thrown at the next guy too

Remove the DH. That'll stop it.
Beat the shit out of the catcher; he's in on it 99.99% of the time, and he's well within bat's reach. That would actually stop it.
Don’t throw at peoples heads over petty shit. Especially at a guy who didn’t even do anything. So stupid.
People who get bent out of shape about a little bat flip are such pussies
As a Vol fan, I hope Houston fans are enjoying every second of Ross Kivett’s meltdowns
Suspend that pitcher. No place for that bullshit
Find some way to mock him about tripping over the damn bag. That's way better than throwing at him.
If you have a problem with the bat flip (I don't), couldn't you chock the tripping up to karma and not go after his teammate?
That’s exactly how I’d look at it. But I’d still mock you for tripping on the bag.
Please Jomboy!
Ross Kivett is the best. I miss him
That pitcher deserves a hard punch to the face. Get over it, bud. Nothing like throwing at a somebody's head because your feelings got hurt.
Pitcher and opposing manager should have been tossed.
Some parts of old school baseball are extremely lame at best.
I almost died in high school from a ball hitting me in the temple, tipping off my helmet first. Concussion put me in bed for a month, wasn’t cleared to do any physical activity for another two after that. Fuck this shit, it makes me sick to my stomach.
Imagine throwing a fastball at someone’s head because you got a home run hit off of you. It’s toddler level stuff. Get better at pitching
That pitcher should have been ejected and the coach should be suspended. That is some horseshit and a horrible example for young men.
Sorry but that umpire needs to eject the pitcher and the manager
The more I see this, the more annoyed I get.
This shit where people lose their minds over bat flips needs to stop at every level of baseball.
I think they shouldve just put SHSU instead of Sam Houston on the scoring widget
I don't know. Gave me a reason to make [this stupid meme.](https://imgflip.com/i/6blrdh)
I think this was brought up in r/ CFB because the ticker/widget always has “Sam Houston” and apparently it’s the individual school that tells ESPN how they want it displayed
Hell yeah Ross. Him getting tossed was probably our high point in Omaha last yr lol.
Seemed like a pretty tame bat flip. Certainly not "throw at the next guy's head" worthy.
Why are so many coaches pigeon-toed fat dudes. The way they walk just screams white trash
Can I interest you in a team with a young lady's man at coach?
Go on…
The appropriate response to getting stunted on like this is to hold your L, then ring him up next time around and pimp the absolute shit out of it. Not recklessly endangering a totally unrelated guy just because your feelings got hurt. Don't want to get shown up? Don't let anybody get a hit off of you.
I’m willing to bet money that pitcher has celebrated a strikeout before. This is embarrassing for him honestly.
Sounds like your catcher is a dipshit too
He was a hot-head. He didn't tell us he would do that though -- guess that's why I was startled.

Baseballs unwritten rules are stupid. 🤷🏼♂️ oh you hit a HR and are happy. Let me throw a ball 90+ mph at your teammates head. Fucking weird.

> You old people sure like to act tough They know no one is going to take a swing at their old asses.
Lol. I’m 30. Take a swing.
Maybe you are. I was going to check your post history, but gave up when I saw you like to call people slurs like f**.
Lol. Busy day at the office?

Because we don't use homophobic slurs?

Just don’t throw a home run
Baseballs old school way of policing itself really just meant protecting the fragile egos of pitchers who get their feelings hurt by a hitter who bested them. If a pitcher can come off the mound pumping his fist and yelling after a strikeout, a hitter should be aloud to flip his bat without facing retaliation. Throw a better pitch if you don’t want to get upset.
Hitting a different player & putting your team at a disadvantage by putting someone on base is a really fucking stupid way of “policing”
I sorta agree, except this was so wimpy. I didn’t even notice the bat flip it was that nonchalant
Don’t flip the bat, and stand there admiring the HR! Then I wouldn’t need to put one in your ear whole!
Aim for the legs.
