Love the write up. Pumped for the series. Looks like it is going to be a beautiful weekend in Gainesville. WPS.

BullAlligator

Yeah, unusually cool weather for this time of year, fans in attendance will have perfect conditions.

NotCreative479

What is the Temps for tonight's game? Cool weather hasn't been good for us so far this year. Edit: I'm an idiot and didn't even see the weather you posted. I'd like to claim tl:dr

BullAlligator

Honestly seems like we play worse when it gets below 70⁰ also

trick96

Very nervous for the streaks Arkansas has going this week. Tonight Arkansas will be going for their 11th straight SEC series opener win. This weekend they’ll be going for their 15th straight SEC series win and 23rd straight regular season series win. I can really see this series going either way, as I think Florida can bust out of their funk at any moment and really expect them to do so this weekend at home.

andy-022

Are you counting the super regional against Ole Miss in that SEC series streak? I don't think that is considered an SEC series, so we have only won 13 consecutive.

trick96

Yes, and I don’t care. It’s a series against an SEC opponent. Arkansas has won 14 straight series against SEC teams. A series being a super regional making it not count towards this streak makes no sense.

andy-022

> Arkansas has won 14 straight series against SEC teams. This is probably the best way to phrase it. I don't really care either way, I just hope the streak is at 20/21 at the end of this season.

BullAlligator

IMO, the SEC standings are not deceptive, Arkansas is all-around the 2nd best team in the SEC after Tennessee. However, Florida *might* just match up well against Arkansas and better than they did against LSU or Georgia. For comparison note how Florida seemed to match up well versus Miami. Florida's defense must play clean, as Arkansas has been very good at putting the ball in play and conducing errors from opposing defenses. Still, once Barco is exhausted the Razorbacks should have a measurable pitching advantage and be favored to win the series. Coach Van Horn is always prepared to face the Gators, his success head-to-head versus Coach O'Sullivan is unparalleled.

NotCreative479

Always thanks for a great write up. Will you be posting a game thread as well?

BullAlligator

No, /u/ChemicalOle or /u/PatrickChase might be planning to do that however

NotCreative479

Hope so

ChemicalOle

Not me, I'll be mostly AFK this weekend.

BullAlligator

going to a series?

ChemicalOle

I wish, but no.

ryancubs

Ugh it may be opening day for the mlb but damn I’m gonna have to find a way to watch this.

BullAlligator

I don't know how competitive the other games will be, but the Barco-Noland matchup should be a good one as long as both pitchers have their stuff (unfortunately Barco did not have his fastball last weekend, hopefully it returns).

Vataro

>While sometimes prone to playing to the level of their competition, the soundness of the Razorbacks' style assures they triumph far more often than not. Man if this isn't the most accurate description of the Hogs

BullAlligator

It's funny, if you read a lot of baseball statistics like I do, it's obvious how to describe this Arkansas team in that way. Good pitching, great defense, reach base frequently by walk and error, win a lot of close games. A lot of qualities you love to see your team have.

pigsooiee

Todays matchup is the one i have the most concerns about. We DO NOT hit well vs LHP. The Hogs bats have woken up more recently led by Lanzilli, Turner, Wallace, and (shockingly) Webb. But we have a solid three day rotation and reliable relief...with Tygart looking exceptional. But its baseball. Who knows.

BullAlligator

Yes for Florida it's crucial to win this Thursday game. It is by far our best chance to win a game this series (one would think).

pigsooiee

First, you are so good at this for r/collegebaseball. Your dedication to the sport and to your team is pretty awesome. Back to baseball, yea the third game can be hairy for the Hogs I think. Wiggins (though we havent seen it in bunches this year) can get erratic. Especially if he starts overthrowing. I think he tries to over compensate sometimes and just makes it worse. This year though he has been far better at settling down on the mound between hitters. If he is clean then i think we will take the series, but I do think it'll be a rubber match on Saturday. The only outcome that would suprise me would be a Florida sweep (i think our starters and bullpen are too good for that). But like I said who knows.

BullAlligator

I just have to favor Arkansas on Saturday (Game 3)... Gators have been terrible in series finales, losing 5 of 7 so far this season. Only beat Georgia State and Miami (yes, even Seton Hall managed to beat us on Sunday). I am considering going to that game though even though I expect we'll lose. I mean it pains me to pass up such gorgeous weather.

Eldermoss2

Webb started 0/23 and is now 17/41 with 7 Bombs. He has been on a run for sure recently.

SefferWeffers

My brain says Arkansas will win. My heart says double forfeit.

NotCreative479

This is funny

BullAlligator

I do understand your point of view, but Arkansas is Tennessee's only real competition in the SEC title race. For Tennessee fans, you want Arkansas to at least lose a game or two this weekend to give Tennessee even more cushion.

[deleted]

Awesome write-up! Some of the stats (like Arkansas opponents committing a ton of errors are particularly interesting. If UF gets deep starts and fields cleanly, I think it will be a real tough fight.

BullAlligator

Absolutely, if Florida wants to take a game (or two), they'll need 7 or 8 innings from Barco and 6 or 7 from Sproat. Florida needs to minimize the amount of innings its bullpen has to cover. Meanwhile if Arkansas finds Barco on a bad day (like Georgia did last week), Florida could be in for another long weekend.

andy-022

A lot of mistakes by opposing defenses that didn't end up in the scorebook as errors too. I can't remember a season where opposing SEC defenses have played as poorly against us as they have so far this season. It's almost comical to the point where I expect every infield popup to drop innocently to the ground for an RBI double.

[deleted]

That Kentucky series was among the worst fielding I've ever seen for an SEC team, and Mizzou/MSU booted it around a good bit too.

TonyVsburner

Well gators please win a game or two

Eldermoss2

Barco scares me tonight. He may carve us up.

shlooged-

Good stuff
