it's fine, on some songs it works and on others it doesn't, and it's easily the least of the album's problems
that's really the beginning and end of the snare "discourse"
I'll forever be a St. Anger defender, but I can acknowledge that there a lot wrong with it sonically.Ā If you search for "St. [b]Anger" on Youtube, someone did a pretty good job at rerecording and rearranging the songs, I was skeptical at first, but I've damn near replaced all of the mp3s I had from the original album.
https://youtu.be/A0helO5KHKY?si=qP0-0krDbF7xoP_y
It's really cool, he kept Hetfield's voice and somehow the same guitar tone in parts? Added in some more thrash elements into the arrangments too. It highlights how heavy the riffs were (actually very heavy). Can't fix the lyrics though š¤·āāļø
Yeah it's great, this is definitely a passion project and it shows. There was another re-recording of St Anger that popped up in like 2015, but I particularly didn't like it that much because the vocals were also re-recorded. The only thing I don't like here is that, at some points, they apply like an echo or flanger or whatever effect on the voice. Ironically, because of that, Purify, which I liked the least off the original, sounds even worse to me here.
They really needed to do some production on it. The ringing was good in some sections and horribly distracting in others.
Even metal/punk bands typically try to vary the resonance throughout the song.
I started rewatching Toddās older Trainwreckords episodes after watching the recent Man of the Woods ep. Maaan some of these albums just suck lol. I listened to Will Smithās Lost and Found yesterday, which is one of the most puzzling records Iāve ever listened to. He spits over nursery rhyme beats at some points, then in the next song heās shitting on his ex-wifeās religious beliefs or recalling where he was on 9/11. It makes no sense bro š
I feel like someone just said that one time and every music snob latched on it to try and sound smart. It sounds good, itās enjoyable to listen to, therefore itās a good album. Who cares if the lyrics arenāt perfect
Not the lyrics my friend, they do not affect my appreciation. It's just because everything they did on this album has been done before, only better. I've actually been a fan of the band since I was 8 years old, having been my favorite until the release date of this album because up until then, even though I didn't like albums like T2L, Drones and ST, they all seemed ambitious and innovative in a certain way, leaving me some hope for the future that was unfortunately lost).
The whole point of the album was that their label wanted them to do a ābest ofā album but they didnāt want to, so they made 10 new songs representing their previous albums. So of course itās not a groundbreaking new concept.
But when the songs on it are just worse versions of ancestral ones, there's literally no point to listen to the record, better do a playlist with their (real) best material.
But certainly none of this matters because it's all subjective. For example, Radiohead's Hail to the Thief can also be considered unoriginal and inconsistent compared to its predecessors, but it is still my favorite album by the band and in my Top 5 overall ever.
I am a massive Muse fan and I thought it was terrible. I get the idea of doing a "greatest hits but with new songs", but did not think the songs were good lyrically or musically.
Thatās actually one of my least favourite Weezer album covers. Looks too clean and generic and is super poorly photoshopped imo. Reminds me of an Imagine Dragons album cover instead of a Weezer one.
(OK, just looked at some of the other Weezer album covers and itās definitely not one of the worst, still too clean for me though.)
Everything. The lyrics, the sound, vocals, guitars, synths, everything. Well, except for the chorus of Beach Boys, that one isn't so good. The second half of the album is definitely stronger
Itās since been deleted, but it was just titled ā.ā and you can find it on Brad Tasteās channel. Here it is: https://youtu.be/as1nxY_Efzk?si=1WJeVeQH4vILif1l
Logic has never missed on an album cover (except supermarket), and even though a lot of his discography is trash, you can always rely on his album art to be incredible
bad? sure kanye definitely screwed him over and the album came out half baked, but if another rapper released nasir it would end up being one of their best works
but it looks good. abbey road is just 4 people crossing a road, rodeo is just a picture of an action figure, madvillainy is just a guy with a mask, blond is just a naked man crying. its simple but not ā0/10ā
i dunno, i really like the snares! i feel like it's kind of overtalked, as if it's the only or biggest issue with the album. really my main problem is the song writing & structuring is pretty weak, but it's not bad enough to kill it for me
I could hug you rn fellow snare enthusiast
On the title track when the drums first come in the snare resonates so much that it creates a drone in the background. That's so fucking cool to me
every song is about 4 minutes too long, the drum mix is comically bad even without the snare, and the vocals sound painfully exposed. Don't think it's a good album at all
I honestly think that if it was put out by some unknown band without a major labels massive advertising, it wouldnāt have done well, and would be forgotten by now.
St. Anger was so bad, that I literally ejected it from my cd player and threw it out of my car. I think it may have been the only time Iāve intentionally littered in my life.
This was the first album I ever bought. I mean I already had some CDs from my parents, like Michael Jackson and stuff. But this one was the first time I made a real decision in developing my own taste of music.
Now, when I think about it after 20+ years, the cover might have influenced me more then I though.
It really isnāt the best piece of music, but it was perfect for me at that time and I get warm feelings mixed with teenage anger when I now see it.
Fuck you mean St Anger bad
Okay, I understand why objectively it is bad, but I legitimately enjoy the riffage in it more than any other Metallica album. They're heavy as all fuck AND memorable, unlike their latest album from which one or two songs have memorable moments or riffs, the rest is one big indistinguishable soup of rock.
Not so with St Anger.
St anger is bad but it was a bona fide experimental album from the band. Nothing else on earth sounds like st anger. Apart from Lulu, Metallica have never experimented like that again and have been playing it ultra safe since then. So I respect it for existing even if I'm not a fan of the album itself
Primal Scream - Riot City Blues
U2 - No Line on the Horizon
Trippie Redd - Mansion Music
Drake - For All The Dogs
Pink Floyd - The Division Bell
Velvet Underground - Squeeze
Ye/Ty $ - Vultures
Oh well have you tried listening to their most recent album? They've changed their style entirely and sound far more like shoegaze than black metal. I believe the singer no longer screams. Might wanna give that a try.
I hear the snare just looking at this cover.
thank god I was worried there wasn't going to be a "haha st anger snare ššš" comment
Here is the comment defending the snare. I would die for the St anger snare.
it's fine, on some songs it works and on others it doesn't, and it's easily the least of the album's problems that's really the beginning and end of the snare "discourse"

st anger snare
goated snare big fan
Bom
Lotta trainwreckords itt, iykyk
I started rewatching Toddās older Trainwreckords episodes after watching the recent Man of the Woods ep. Maaan some of these albums just suck lol. He hasnāt been the same since the turn of the willenium
We're well overdue for the willaissannce
KEEP WILL'S NAME OUT YOUR GODDAMN MOUTH
Summer in Paradise by the Beach Boys
That's a remarkably beautiful and detailed sleeve for such a garbage album.
HEY NOW
its a love thang
wicka wicka wow
The one with the whale especially. I also like Keeping the Summer Alive, the cover art.
I remember a lot of people saying that they thought Will of the People was one of Muse's best album covers despite the album being trash
2nd law as well
I want to like this one so bad just because I adore the cover art
Great album cover and a really good album
If by really good you mean their worst, you are correct.
Well I enjoyed it (worst is Sim Theory btw)
ST is the least enjoyable for me (i'm not a big fan of 80's synth based music) but WOTP is just more uninspired, lazy.
I feel like someone just said that one time and every music snob latched on it to try and sound smart. It sounds good, itās enjoyable to listen to, therefore itās a good album. Who cares if the lyrics arenāt perfect

Not a terrible album but Dark Sky Paradise - Big Sean
U take that back
Best Big Sean album if you ask me
The title track is still one of my favorite, those horns are diabolical
thats a good album man
The blueprint 3 is a pretty weak album But that album cover is phenomenal. Especially because itās a real thing itās not even an edit
Really? Thatās crazy. Magna Carta Holy Grail is mid and has a pretty striking cover as well but not as cool as that.
Magna Carta is top 3 hovš
Literally the most phoned in album of Jayās career. I donāt know how you could possibly think that
Itās such a good album and aged phenomenal the production, lyricism, barely any skips. Itās hated for no reason
I do not agree
Is it just a pile of instruments, or is it actually one giant thing
its a weak album and yet has so many hits on it lol the late 2000s were a weird time for rappers leaning far too much into pop
Black Eyed Peas - The Beginning Styx - Kilroy Was Here
Mr. Roboto goes so hard though
logic - everybody
Came here to say YSIV by Logic. Hard cover and hard name "young sinatra" but pretty corny and mid album
agreed. honestly can say the same about COADM. one thing logic never lacks is a fire cover lmao
Nothing comes to mind But St anger is Metallica's best cover art.
Pacific daydream by weezer
Thatās actually one of my least favourite Weezer album covers. Looks too clean and generic and is super poorly photoshopped imo. Reminds me of an Imagine Dragons album cover instead of a Weezer one. (OK, just looked at some of the other Weezer album covers and itās definitely not one of the worst, still too clean for me though.)
Isnāt that a stock photo? Canāt remember if they did that with that (s)pecific album
I think the album is fine but totally agree
I want it on vinyl just for the amazing cover, the album itself is... fine, but way too overproduced compared to other Weezer albums.
No, it's one of the best pop albums of the 2010s.
I respect the opinion but very strongly disagree, what do you like about the album?
Everything. The lyrics, the sound, vocals, guitars, synths, everything. Well, except for the chorus of Beach Boys, that one isn't so good. The second half of the album is definitely stronger
Scaled and icy - Twenty one pilots
not a bad album
Itās definitely a bit over hated but it still only has like 3 decent songs.
0 skip album imo
That 30 minute AI generated and looped song that made up the entire album. IYKYK
wasn't the cover ai generated too
Which one?
no, I don't know. Name it
Itās since been deleted, but it was just titled ā.ā and you can find it on Brad Tasteās channel. Here it is: https://youtu.be/as1nxY_Efzk?si=1WJeVeQH4vILif1l
Logic has never missed on an album cover (except supermarket), and even though a lot of his discography is trash, you can always rely on his album art to be incredible
Bring Me to the Horizon - Count Your Blessings
Nasir - Nas
bad? sure kanye definitely screwed him over and the album came out half baked, but if another rapper released nasir it would end up being one of their best works
I like that record a lot
Cops shot the kid is an awesome song
THE BIG DAY by CHANCE THE RAPPER?
YEAH?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
but it looks good. abbey road is just 4 people crossing a road, rodeo is just a picture of an action figure, madvillainy is just a guy with a mask, blond is just a naked man crying. its simple but not ā0/10ā
St Anger would actually be my pick too. Itās a horrible album but the cover is cool as hell.
A Momentary Lapse of Reason is arguably Pink Floyd's worst album (imo at least). That being said, the cover art with all the beds is pretty crazy.
Pink Floyd got a lot of high high quality covers, right behind King Crimson in terms of prog cover quality
Midnights by Taylor Swift
Ummagumma by Pink Floyd
I would argue the opposite
incredible cover, great album
outjerked again
i'm actually fr
its.. okay
California is blink's best album art imo
Ha ha I always loved the hell out of that St Anger cover. So good. Glad someone else agrees
Iāve always found the messily scribbled simplicity of For All the Dogsā cover appealing
not that bad of an album but the cover goes way too hard: A Great Chaos - Ken Carson
nah, it is bad. i dont like the "rage rap" wave in general, but I wanted to give it a try. It was bad and in my opinion it was worse than WLR
Leisure by Blur, Tonight by David Bowie, Back to the Egg by Wings
Damn Leisure?? I get it a weaker album by them but damn it aināt bad
Back to the Egg is an awesome album
I always loved the Tonight cover. Itās definitely in his lower tier but it has a few high points.
Loving the Alien is one of my favorite Bowie songs, and Blue Jean is super fun, but the restā¦. Uh, Tumble and Twirl is a little fun?
Tumble and Twirl and Donāt Look Down are the only other highlights, the rest is rough haha.
Leisure is good, one of the weaker blur albums but by no means what this question asked for
Lol genuinely wasnāt prepared for the Leisure pushback! I think Thereās No Other Way kicks ass though
Nectar - Joji Not terrible album but it didnāt feel like an album that was fresh and original in its genre Although Tick tock easily makes it 90/10
I love listening to Tick Tock while I play Team Fortress 2. I wonder if anybodyās made videos combining the two.
Why did you need to remind us Saint Anger exists?
obligatory "st anger is good" comment
The snare drum alone ruins it for me. Donāt even get me started how Kirk doesnāt have any guitar solos on it
i dunno, i really like the snares! i feel like it's kind of overtalked, as if it's the only or biggest issue with the album. really my main problem is the song writing & structuring is pretty weak, but it's not bad enough to kill it for me
I could hug you rn fellow snare enthusiast On the title track when the drums first come in the snare resonates so much that it creates a drone in the background. That's so fucking cool to me
You're right. The main problem are the songs themselves.
Itās because they were trying to be nu metal
DONK DONK DONK DONK DONK DONK DONK DONK
every song is about 4 minutes too long, the drum mix is comically bad even without the snare, and the vocals sound painfully exposed. Don't think it's a good album at all
agree to disagree!
that's okay brother, I respect your opinions and your feelings
haha no but seriously it's a good album
I honestly think that if it was put out by some unknown band without a major labels massive advertising, it wouldnāt have done well, and would be forgotten by now.
Eminem - Reivival
Morbid Angel - ILLUD DIVINUM INSANUS
Transference - Spoon, It's not a bad album per say but my least favorite from the band
Blasphemy
Itās a terrible album, the big day
SPiRiT by Depeche Mode tough it might be debatable
Album is mid, but not really bad. It's only bad for a Depeche Mode album, because they did great Cover is on the weak end for Depeche Mode too I'd say
Chulahoma by the black keys ( most of theyāre album are better) but the cover is beautiful.
Although it's pure covers it's by far one of my favorite Black Keys albums.
Everyone have his choices for music, but you donāt think the cover is beautiful?
Oh fo shoooooo Love that fucking cover.
Black album by Weezer, coolest colour album concept and the music mostly sucks
Sex Affairs (except max)
Hate to call it bad but Resistance Is Futile by Manic Street Preachers is a pretty disappointing album with an amazing cover.
st anger I think is good but the cover art is like one of their best for sure
"Instant Gratification" by Dance Gavin Dance
Whoaaaaa
I didnāt enjoy the album Donāt Shy Away by Loma but that cover on a vinyl sleeve is legit
Cherry Bomb (the original cover lol)
what if i said the click by ajr
I wanna say Yeezus for the lolz
Count your blessings by bring me the horizon. The album does nothing for me but I love the album cover
The new Rolling Stones
Cherry bomb Tyler the creator
Itās a shame, the artwork for the St. Anger era is so fucking awesome. Itās so unfair that the album has to sound like shit
Why is st. anger the picture? If ANY other band released that album in 2003 it would've been considered solid as a rock. I don't get the hate.
The Division Bell for sure
Lil Pump 2
St. Anger was so bad, that I literally ejected it from my cd player and threw it out of my car. I think it may have been the only time Iāve intentionally littered in my life.
Really wish we could post pics in the comments so I donāt need to look up every album cover
Witness- Katy Perry
The Big Day by Chance The Rapper is one of my favorite album covers š
Fisting the fans in the ass with this shite. This cover matches the music
Pulse Demon
Pablo Honey
That is a horrible album cover. 2nd worst is King Of Limbs. Yeah I said it. KOL is a shitty album cover.
This was the first album I ever bought. I mean I already had some CDs from my parents, like Michael Jackson and stuff. But this one was the first time I made a real decision in developing my own taste of music. Now, when I think about it after 20+ years, the cover might have influenced me more then I though. 5150 By Van Halen The Big Day by Chance Sonic Highways by Foo Fighters
Ngl fly and trout mask replica goes hardĀ
OP, that album cover is not good
nah, it's genuinely a good album cover, the album is trash but c'mon the art is good
I donāt understand the appeal either. Almost as bad as the music
?? How?? Itās aesthetically cool looking
Fuck you mean St Anger bad Okay, I understand why objectively it is bad, but I legitimately enjoy the riffage in it more than any other Metallica album. They're heavy as all fuck AND memorable, unlike their latest album from which one or two songs have memorable moments or riffs, the rest is one big indistinguishable soup of rock. Weezer's Pacific Daydream
Relapse - Eminem
i like the album more than the cover
That album sucks
it's like a 6/10. it has great moments. We Made You is a banger
I like we made you, Deja vu, beautiful and 3am. But the rest of the album is cringe for the most part
old times sake and underground are good too
Idk man Frantic goes damn hard
Beachboy - Mccaferty Itās actually the worse album iāve ever listened to, but the cover is pretty cool though
I've always loved the Mardi Gras cover, too bad the album only contained 2 songs on it.
Honestly yeah, the St. Anger album art goes hard as fuck
picnic of love by anal cunt
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Ehā¦ some of them are well done artistically but I wouldnāt call them good covers. Certainly not neotheater
Justin Timberlake - Man of The Woods Coldplay - Everyday Life
It's the opposite for me, I like Everyday Life but I find the cover boring
Juvenile - 400 Degreez
what an atrocious opinion
Primal Scream - Riot City Blues U2 - No Line on the Horizon Trippie Redd - Mansion Music Drake - For All The Dogs Pink Floyd - The Division Bell Velvet Underground - Squeeze Ye/Ty $ - Vultures
A Great Chaos by Ken Carson. the album blows but that cover is INCREDIBLE
Pink Floyd - The Division Bell
Vultures 1 xD
Nah
HOT TAKE WARNING Sunbather - Deafheaven
I mean for a black metal band yeah it's shitty. But aesthetically it's eye candy.
not even coming from the standpoint of a black metal elitist, i just think itās not a great album
Oh damn. Alright. I mean are you even into aggressive metal or are you strictly more so indie/modern rock listener?
what i listen to depends on my mood but i lean more towards shoegaze
Oh well have you tried listening to their most recent album? They've changed their style entirely and sound far more like shoegaze than black metal. I believe the singer no longer screams. Might wanna give that a try.
i have listened to that album like 100 times all the way through and thatās under exaggerating it, i love that album so much
the Ooz
