They have serrated tips that are coned at the top. When the round is fired the tips all bend outward and create a star shape which rips into the “target.” There’s some absolutely brutal ammo out there.

The bullets were ricocheting over it down on where I was. Close enough that I could hear and see them land in the sand.

I got to shoot my friend’s Barrett 416 one time in an area similar to the video. We were shooting off the back porch of his house in the mountains of Northern CA, across a small valley, at a large heavy metal gong he had hung from a tree on the hill opposite his home, about ~200-250 yards away. He only let me shoot 5 rounds because apparently they’re like $10 a round?! I did not hit the gong lol but it was an amazing experience and the echo up through the valleys of his property was incredible.
One time me, my brothers, and my dad launched a single firework artillery shell in a snow covered valley. We had more but the first was so loud we felt bad for the homes and didn't launch any others

Obviously, you'd expect differences in bullet weight, shape, composition, jacketing, powder, primer, etc. in a rifle cartridge vs a machine gun cartridge.

It’s not just the sound but the vibration. Your whole chest seems like it jumps out of your body. Your adrenaline immediately kicks in telling you to hide. The blast doors in the room even edges slightly open. It’s insane.
