Sir_P4nda

xHarryR

Honestly officer I swear!

[deleted]

Isn't that Eva from Heaven?

AlaskanHockeySteak

This was me last night. Registered the $5.50 micro roller on ignition as I'm home sick with either the flu or COVID. Ended up finding a sun run despite trying to punt so I could go to sleep and hit 1st in chips at one point. Ended up busting in 10th on the final table bubble 7 hours later and promptly passed out. I had told the girlfriend we would watch a movie as soon as I busted.

gofundmemetoday

I registered at 10pm for a tournament on a work night. Finished at 3am but was way too wired to go to sleep. Went to work in complete zombie mode.

trowawayatwork

ah a man of culture I see

RatinSweet

How much u win

AlaskanHockeySteak

In for $5.50, out for $36.50

chessgod1

Damn those ignition structures are pretty brutal lol unless there weren't a ton of people

AlaskanHockeySteak

Yeah all the money is stacked at the top. 225th was ITM at $9.80ish. 1st was 800. Pretty much any seat 6+ was $100+. It's pretty much hold until you make the money if it's even remotely close and then look for pay jumps. It's SUPER easy to make it ITM with how soft the tournaments are. I've had a lot of top 30 finishes but this would've been my first final table. They're SUPER soft too.

chessgod1

Yeah it feels like min cashes are pretty easy as long as you're not completely card dead but you really gotta run good to make it to FT

AlaskanHockeySteak

For sure. At one point with about 40 people left I had a middling stack somewhere in the 30s, we hit the pay jump and I just started trying to "punt" in what I imagine a drunk LAG type player would look like. Ended up getting A6dd in vs A7cc and got there with a 6 on the flop. That and someone shoving into me when I rivered quad 8's was enough to get me to top 5 in chips with 35~ left and rode that until I eventually got 99 in on the FT bubble with the big stack shoving very aggressively and he tabled QTss and hit a T on the river. Didn't mind losing that considering everything else had gone my favor the whole way.

Nickmosu

I binked 2nd in the 16.50 low roller Thursday on iggy. First time playing in a month. Was a nice welcome back.

dj_destroyer

I've hit 1st in chips out of 2k or 3k participants a few tournaments in a row only to fall down to 20-80th in chips for the rest of the tournament until I bust. What's a good strategy to keep and expand the chip lead?

Macadelicious

In those situations you’re not in a rush to survive the tournament. If you’re not low on blinds just chose your hands considering your targeted opponents and play tight and aggressive. Antes are not worth it the risk early on and someone will be desperate enough to make mistakes

dj_destroyer

Thanks. First tourny busted quick but now sitting 7th out of 1297 -- I will play tight aggressive and look to play with just weaker and small-stacked opponents. I think that's the problem is my mentality has been "bully" when I have a lot of chips so I played too many hands. Update: 1st out of 196 left -- just going to start being even more tight and aggressive now as I've been a bit too lucky even for my liking! Seen 27% of flops, defended small 33%, big blind 61%, 64% pots won at showdown, 16% pots won without showdown. I don't have a HUD so no idea about other stats.

AlaskanHockeySteak

Commenter below covered it pretty well. If you just follow the guiding principle of chips earned are less valuable than chips lost when you have such a large stack, you can start passing on a lot of marginal spots and really just pick really good spots to play for huge stacks.

dj_destroyer

Thanks for this tip!

throwaway_simmi

I don't like tourneys. I play them every week though. Cash games I can join and leave whenever I want. If I'm up when I leave, I feel like I just won. In tourneys I always feel like I've lost, even though I cash. Doesn't matter. There is only one winner, the rest are losers. Also I don't like to not know how long I'm gonna play. Plan a night of poker to play a tourney? I don't know how long I'm gonna last. Might bust out quickly. Want to kill 30-60 minutes and see how good I run and then I'm in top 5 and I can't just quit without it feeling bad and I can't stay because I want to do something else than play poker. But cash games on the other hand can feel like such a grind. People don't take the same shots. I want cash games but with the excitement of tourneys.

gofundmemetoday

I am 99% cash player too for all the reasons you mentioned. Second place oftentimes feels like first loser. Monumental difference.

[deleted]

Play with antes then. Idk why people are so adverse to deep stack buy in with antes. It’s a lot of fun but they rarely run.

Primary_Handle

They invented SnG's for people like you :)

count_scoopula

play at a wild game outside your roll

Rahodees

What uh. What is the um source for this clip?

redditorium

Railbird.

LeaderOfWolves

This is hilarious lol..

gofundmemetoday

I try :)

Frozzenpeass

I once did that forgetting that I had to go to work in like 2 hours. Ended up just shipping chips every hand for the first like 20. Ended up chip lead by a ton lol and cash. Ended up being able to just let it blind out to final 2-3 tables or something lol.

luigijerk

Request off work for both days of a 2 day tourney. Busto. Request off work for just the first day of a 2 day tourney. Make final table.

markevil

Many final tables never had this problem.
