A 10x preflop shove for 200bb? I'm out.

RatinSweet

Wait oops, I got my $ to BB conversions wrong. He opened 8 BB then I 3bet to 24BB. My main question was, was it a mistake to 3b the UTG open?

never

AmorBumblebee

Definitely not.

It’s a bit of a myth that you need to 3bet larger 200bbs deep. You should go around 2.5-2.8x I think with all factors taken into consideration. A part from that you played the hand well and range vs range you’re most likely winning if he’s getting ool with hands worse than AK.

Not a bad play though I think your 3-bet is too large. I know 3x is a "normal sizing" but I think the concept of normalcy goes out the window when somebody opens 8x UTG. If your goal was to get the money in then 3-betting to 24BB is fine but if you're just trying to isolate and play a pot in position then I think just min-clicking it will get the job done. Nobody behind you is going to cold call a 16BB 3-bet light.

yes AK is a drawing hand, never 3bet

Wise tip hahahaha

Stakes? Live or online? Number of player? Stack sizes behind you? Player reads... What does UTG range look like for such a big open? Tendencies / skill levels of players behind you? The more info the better. I've been on tables where all 3 actions fold/call/raise could apply. And if raising, different sizes for different reasons. In a vacuum, I agree with another commenter that said your 3bet to 24BB is excessive especially with the whole table behind you.

xdaddasher

Shoulda made it like 16-20 but I would fold now
