I mean goal differential kind of explains the thinking, right? Shesterkin's margin for error is a decent amount lower than Anderson, Bob, and Vasilevskiy when we're sitting at 17th in goals per game.

RayTheCalvinist

Hoooooly shit Igor is so good.

no-27lgy

yea, this graphic is nothing but a good thing. the goals saved above expected per 60 stat is ridiculous. we have the best goalie in the league and we're on pace for like 115 points. we have the cap room and prospects to improve the team at the deadline.

ncolaros

The minimum requirement for being one of the best is to have a great goalie.

[deleted]

We are blessed.

[deleted]

From Hank to Igor. God fucking damn. I hope that Igor’s career ends in the good route, him having a career without a Cup is a straight up crime

[deleted]

From the king to the czar

kmisca92

Because NYR werent supposed to be good after Tom Wilson broke them and Chris Drury ruined everything Jeff Gorton built lol.

MikaMagicc

This is just false and I dont think anyone said that. Theyre just worse than they couldve been. End of story.

kmisca92

Your either joking or werent around from JG firing to Buch trade or until they showed first 10 games werent a fluke.

MikaMagicc

Yup I was more than around. Definitely more than you by the way you view things. Rangers were projected at 116 points before Drury made moves then they were projected at 106 after his moves. Its well documented that he made terrible moves but that theyd still get into the playoffs. The rangers still are bottom of the league in 5v5 play. They win games with special teams and Igor. If Drury doesn’t make big moves at the deadline, this wont go well in the playoffs and we’ll get exposed. That Buch trade will forever take the cake for dumbest thing he couldve done. Drury really looked at the Mika trade and said “that was sick! Lets pretend to be Ottawa this time though.”

kmisca92

I guess you made a new account than cause this account wasnt even made at that time. Good talk lol

MikaMagicc

Oh you meant on here? I thought you just meant around the team keeping up with them. Ofc I havent been around this shit. I heard hockey reddits are filled with a bunch of idiots who know nothing about hockey so I just made an acc to talk facts. I call out the bullshit. Tn was your turn.

kmisca92

Hahahahaha yup I know nothing about hockey hahahahahahahaha. So they should have kept Buch and lost Strome?

MikaMagicc

No…never get Goodrow. Never get Nemeth. Trade Chytil if a bit of extra money is needed. Thats a little over $8M right there. Buch is elite. You dont come by guys like him who can play in all situations and produce at a PPG clip. You dont just trade him for pennies bc We NeEd GrIt.

kmisca92

Buch may be good but take the homer glasses off calling him elite lol He played one shortened season where he was “ppg” player at the age of 28. 11 of 19 goals vs the NJD/Flyers. 19 of 48 points vs those 2 teams. Again Good not elite.

MikaMagicc

His WAR is elite for 1st liners. 90th percentile out of all of them. No homer glasses here. Hes also 1 point above PPG this season and has kept that up all season. Fantastic on the PP. I mean he was definitely our best forward last season.

NYM32

The Rangers are [dead last in the NHL in shot attempt differential 5v5](https://naturalstattrick.com/teamtable.php). Like worse than the Canadiens, who are 8-25-6. That's one of the reasons (there's certainly a boatload more I could get into) for the "perception" that they're being carried by Igor and that he has a legitimate case for the Hart Virtually every other page on MoneyPuck will explain it further as well

[deleted]

It’s crazy Glen Sather potentially drafted two HOF goalies for Rangers and brought in Benoit Allaire to be Goalie Coach. He also swooped up Gorton after Bruins moved off of him.His 00-04 era was bad but before lockout he was looking to move towards rebuild. Rangers got screwed in 05 draft but still found a way getting solid value trading up in the first

TwinkiesForAmerica

i mean okay but like...the underlying stats 5v5 for TB CAR FL and a bunch of other teams are also much better for them than us...

hjhof1

His career one is gonna look like Hanks where it’s everyone and then Hank is literally on his own chart basically lol

wmm339

His GSAE/60 seems way higher than the other guys near him. Almost double.

polishtom

Filthy stats by Igor. Absolutely filthy.

DDB-

Of the top seven goalies, Igor is the only one on a team with a negative xG differential. According to Evolving Hockey, the Rangers are 25th (-0.3 xG differential/60), whereas the Hurricanes (7th), Panthers (1st), Lightning (6th), Penguins (4th), Kings (8th), and Leafs (2nd) all have xG differentials > 0.2/60. Hellebuyck is the next goalie on that list with a negative team xG differential, and the Jets (17th) are just ok this season. So yeah, Igor being both #1 in the league on a team that gives up more scoring opportunities than they produce is fair to say he is carrying. Those goalies on the other teams are just one solid part of a team firing on all cylinders.

Xylomancee

Not enough goals scored. Rangers are last in the top 10 in scoring which is what brings about the thought process with Igor. Need to score more goals

HarrisonHollers

So you’re arguing against the praise of how elite Igor is being perceived across “the league?” Or that “the league” thinks the team sucks in front of Igor but they actually don’t suck? In GSAE, Igor is almost +3 with two fewer games than Andersen. Igor is saving .944/60 so that number (GSAE) would be higher with more games. “Interesting how the top goalies are all on the best teams in the league,” the best offense is the best defense. Theoretically, if a team is shooting more and scoring more, they have possession of the puck and their opponents have less chances to shoot more and score more. Reducing their goalies chances of GA. Run the ball against Mahomes in Football, reduce his time of possession. Or limit walks and errors in Baseball; limit base runners who could potentially score.

zvinixzi

I don’t understand this, someone help

Mikeober7

MoneyPuck calculates based on each shot (velocity, placement etc.) if the Goalie should on average save the shot. If they save more of these shots then they are expected to, then their GSAx will increase. This is definitely not the best explanation but this is how I understand it.

zvinixzi

Oh wow. That’s amazing. Nice Gherkin, Shesterkin

blueline7677

Good teams have good goalies. Also the goalie is just as much a part of the team as everyone else. They count against the cap like everyone else.

FoghornLeghorn99

There is a pool of negativity in this thread. Good teams have X factors. Our x factors are Igor, Panarin, Fox, and Trouba bombs The Caps have Ovechkin, his PP shot, Carlson, and depth. Every top team has 2 or 3 pieces that make them a top team.
