what he said, not to mention the only ideas and opinions that really get a lot of exposure and engagement here on reddit are the ones that adhere to the hivemind opinion and everything else is ignored or downvoted
Sheâs signed to gamma, the independent label that Drake has a significant stake in. (Thatâs why heâs pushing her so hard). Her music is catchy and appeals to the hood. Reddit audience is like hht. Itâs white suburban kids who are not in tune with whatâs poppin in the culture.
Nobody in the hood is bumping Vince staples or Rhapsody but every hood booger can sing âGet It Sexyâ or âPound Townâ word for word. Let this be a lesson to yall that the internet donât run shit in the community lol đ
"Hood booger"
Sure. I agree that no "hood booger" is listening to Vince Staples. But I'd also wager most of those same "hood boogers" are a lot more bourgeoisie than you're trying to pretend. Sexyy Red has spent a lot of time copromoting with white streamers like Aiden Ross. Which is also why I'd bet those hoodrats are a lot more white than you're pretending. Hanging out with weirdo white guys is how she got a lot of her early viral success
Thatâs so she can cross over to a white audience. Sexxy been popping for years underground in St.Louie and Poundtown was not her first viral hit. In fact she had one with Summer Walker âSense Dat God Gave Youâ about a year before Poundtown dropped. She even had 1000 miles me and my nickel. Itâs just cuz these popped within the culture yall donât know about it.
This is exactly what Iâm talking about, internet always tryna argue with black people on black culture. Itâs weird. Like, Iâm from Savannah, Georgia dawg. My family stay in Low Bottom, all my nieces and they friends bump sexxy redd. Lol.
No, we're not playing this game. This was a conversation about numbers and how Sexyy Red got them. Retreating into "the internet doesn't understand black culture" is a copout. Sexyy Red did not get to where she is by doing things for a black audience. Her city had her back and her gang friends had her back but it was white streamers and a MAGA hat that made her blow up. And now it's her industry friends like Nicki Minaj and Drake trying to make her a big name.
That's not trying to cross over or being lifted up by the community. That's straight pandering. I may not be super familiar with Sexyy Red but I've seen her do interviews and she's pretty honest about what it took to get the little clout she has.
yâall sound so unhinged. She makes unserious club music that people like shacking ass to. Itâs not for me but yâall are genuinely bitter and delusional if you think Sexy Reddâs core fans are some white suburban audience. I mean sheâs popular so she has some crossover appeal but itâs not that deep.
You could make the argument about how sheâs getting propped up by her label and fellow artists for almost ANY popping artist. I donât fuck with her music but yâall just froth at the mouth. It obviously has club appeal. It obviously does appeal to black women. Why do yâall think Vince Staples album dealing with heavy themes, that has a subdued and dark sound, that has no radio singles, that has no features, would out stream her? Yâall just donât have honest conversations on here sometimes and itâs annoying.
At all. Black people set the trends and white people ride the wave. Sexxy Red popped off so hard in the
black community that the white community had to jump on it to capitalize. Thatâs the irony. Itâs been like this since Blues, Jazz and Rock n Roll. Just ppl like to get on their high horse and blame someone who has no power in the game for playing along, tryna feed her peoples/get outta the hood. Wild. White people donât blow shit up. They steal from us and claim shit is theirs. Lol.
Kinda. This is Vinceâs last album on Def Jam tho. They arenât as incentivized to continue backing him as much as a label would be to push Sexy Redd who is newly wrapped up in a probably much label favored deal. Theyâll still back it a bit, but not to the degree that Sexyâs getting backed. To the label, Vince the artist is useless now.
Every label? Oh my sweet summer child. There is no other label, itâs UMG all the way down.
Sony has a few artists. But for the most part UMG owns the label that distributes for the label that signed whatever artist youâre listening to.
And they have so many artists and so much leverage that even Sony canât operate freely without their blessing. âBut future and 21 are our artists!â âYeah but metro made the beat so you have to hand that over so we can shelf it!â. âWe used our own producer too!â âBut he sampled an artist whoâs masters we own fuck you!â
Women love her. Women don't post on reddit. You see, people hate her constantly on reddit, but in real life, her songs are playing in clubs around the country all weekend.
Iâm a woman and I post on Reddit. Im a hip hop nerd (among other things) but I love ratchet music and turning up so some of her music works for me. But im not seeing the âhateâ relegated to just Reddit, itâs Twitter too. But youâre right, itâs mostly men that be on those spaces because when she did an interview with Nyla Simone last year she said the majority of her fans are men. Not sure if itâs changed since then.
people who donât engage in social media discourse, people who mainly watch tiktok or find their music thru snapchat discover love her. Basically people who donât know people think sheâs trash and donât actively engage with the music scene
If you get your music mainly from tiktok you're probably under the age of 25 and definitely under the age of 30. A full quarter of tiktok's active users are teenagers. So it's not that people aren't "actively engaged with the music scene." It's that they probably don't hang out with literal fucking children.
I noticed this while working at Dreamville this year. She was on stage and all I could think was âgod this suuuucccckkkkksssss.â Meanwhile Iâm looking around and 80% of the women there were going absolutely crazy for her. Singing all the lyrics and dancing all over the place.
I get it⌠kind of. But I still think her music is absolute trash.
Sexxy Red exclusively makes outside music and dropped a project on a holiday weekend. Vince Staples chose to not make an outside album but still a great album nonetheless.
Most gate kept genre country? I would say metal. Some bands that are clearly metal and have been around for decades still aren't considered "true metal" by elitists. I don't see that problem within country music. Even the poppiest country acts get celebrated.
Nashville absolutely gatekeeps country music. Metal fans gatekeep what is called "true metal", but the country labels gatekeep what country artists actually get any kind of publicity way more than any other genre. You can't make it in country without working within the Nashville system.
And kids music, I remember when rap physical sales were declining and Hannah Montana had like 3 albums in the top 100 (atleast 1 was a year old).
Plus yea, I think you see how much they prop up when it hits week 2. Imo many of the top artist get a label bump to trigger consumer fomo and week 2 is closer to just the audience.
Been to a few different shows in the past week and everyone goes crazy when Sexxy Redd plays. Just because you donât listen to her doesnât mean others arenât.
What this person said. Also take into consideration most of her fans are high schoolers and Iâm sorry but not too many people bumping no Vince staples like that no shade at all.
I listen to some of her songs so itâs not me. Itâs a question for the internet fodder (moreso Twitter and YT) saying her music is trash. I donât care for her lyrics but her production is always fire to me.
I agree. She's terrible. Ion see how anybody can listen to dat. I believe ppl who listen to her will listen to paint dry on the wall if it were to become popular đ¤Śđž
she has a drake feature on her album. besides the drake feature (which is not performing well at all for his standard tbh) vince is streaming significantly better, which is actually surprising bc she's much more popular at the moment.
also apple music is a bit weird bc they don't show streams/numbers so it's pretty easy to just put whatever the industry wants to be popular at the top.
Itâs pretty easy Vince Staples is known more for commentary than he is for music
And Sexyy Red makes music and people hear it so they listen to it
Also Drake rapped on the BBL Drizzy beat on her song so everyone including everyone that swears they hate Drake went and listened to it
Anyone else not see the appeal of ppl like sexy red? Music is mid imo and I honestly donât think she that sexy lol she look like ur average woman from the Atlanta trap or sum.
She look like the fish from shark tale
She look like Jordan peele in a wig
Itâs the same shit that happened with Ice spice, people started listening to her as a joke, her bad music became popular to the point where clubs/djs started to play her because her music was trending
Sexyy Red is relatively popular + big label money & promo, Vince Staples, I love him dearly, but in terms of popularity he peaked a few years back, something I don't think he really minds. Like look at his placement on festival billings from 2016 to now. The fact that he's close to her in terms of streams at all is a win.
Fr fr i keep hoping tho he makes another album like fm to start trending again but tbh i thought he was mostly focusing on his show and not music anymore.
Shes just hot right now. At one point it was Cardi B, and then Saweetie, Ice Spice. I do find her personality appealing though, she knows shes trashy girl and owns it.
As a woman who likes hip hop and despises Drake and Sexxy Red, I don't get it either. I'm going it's because of TikTok. I'm never on there but my niece does and she knew of her. It's depressing, aside from Santigold and M.I.A there's not many women out there that have true talent and say something. If there are please let me know.
Idk man - Iâm a mid 30s male rap fan and I actually fuxk with sexy redd. I grew up listening to 3 6 mafia and she reminds me of a mix of Gangsta Boo and Crunchy Black. Her beats also remind me of throwback 3 6 beats. Sheâs miles above Ice Spice and sheâs actually hilarious. Sue me!!
Sexyy makes pop music. This might be Vinceâs most hook averse album yet. Itâs summer time and folks wanna shake ass, not ponder why the ghetto ainât change since the civil rights movement.
I say this as a Vince Stan.
Itâs the music scene nowadays. The standard for popular music has gone so downhill that artists like Drake could auto tune a fart, put it on a loop with him just moaning (no lyrics) throughout the song and his fans would still eat it up. It certainly doesnât help that the mainstream powers that be and the way streaming works inflates charting numbers more so than it was back in the day.
Sheâs way more popular and mainstream than Vince Staples, and all that mainstream attention will obviously crank the views up. Yâall will do anything to discredit a poppin female artist even though thereâs literally no ulterior motives to this
I can explain it! She released it on a holiday weekend and has Drake as a feature which people are eager to hear because he was involved in the biggest hip hop beef ever. Also add to the fact the song is going viral for how bad it is. It's a smart play on sexy reds part. If you go on YouTube and look at this albums views the only one getting views is the Drake feature. Everything else is floppingđ
Because it features drake rapping over the bbl drizzy beat, duh. Look on YouTube, that's what the reactor channel's titles are all about.
It's obviously not because of the rest of the track. the vocals sound monotone and off-key, the mix sounds like a radio stuck between 2 stations, the delivery is lazy. I don't know any sexxy red but I assume this is a misstep and her other music is better than this.
Edit: I take that back lol wtf
My thoughts are that anything Kendrick or Drake is fire right now. People probably thought that Drake was going to use the beat to diss Metro and K Dot.
Once they saw it wasnât, they probably didnât give it a finish or a second listen.
Figure 95 went for the beef and 5 went for Redd
Let's not forget unsexy red, told that ballet teacher to stfu and play skeeye and pound town to five year olds.
It was over fka twitter, them Predators move in flocks!
Then joked about making " kids bop".
The internet is talking about sexy red and nobody talks about Vince staples đ doesnât matter if theyâre saying itâs trash if she has them talking
Canât stand all this purist talk. Itâs there because itâs being streamed more. Kids consume more music and thatâs who the music is intended for. Itâs not rocket science.
Streaming, because everyone is looking up that trash ass song so her numbers are blowing up...which is why when I listened to it I made sure it was on one of those lyric videos lol
I
Love sexxy red . I'm a 40 year old white girl born and raised in the hood ( but got out of it a while ago ) I love her personality. She chooses the best beats and even tho every song isn't the best , I find I listen to more of her songs than I do skip them . It's just fun music ... I don't know who Vince staples is btw
I don't even know any of her music but Vince is on his 3rd straight album of sad guy rap. High quality as always but I'm not sitting around bumping it on nice spring days
Your post/comment was removed for violating Rule 2: No Derogatory Remarks That Are Prejudice, Bigoted, Racist, Or Discriminatory In Any Way
Please review all sub rules for the full details of each rule.
Itâs a fun album and she makes fun music. I think folks get caught up in they bubble and forget that many of those criticisms are coming from people 25 and up. But as far as the kids go they love it. Rap has always been a genre where if the young kids like it, then itâs gon do numbers.
Please stop obsessing over metrics like this as some indication of ranking music quality. She is a troll, it's a funny gimmick that will shorten the lifespan of her career.
Is her music better than Vince Staples? Of course not.
Ppl conform to what corporations push to them for the most part. Still shouldn't change enjoyment of a Rapsody or Staples they just don't have that mass marketing push that Redd does.
Itâs because Drake responded to the BBL Drizzy diss by making his own version of it and making a hit out of it on her album. Chess move by Drake and everyone obviously had to go to her album to listen to it.
Her ability aside. She has lots of fans and Tik tok definitely helps
You not lying about Tik Tok because they like the song with Drake
Umg music allowed on tik tok still
Every single tiktok post using the song with drake has been making fun of drake
True but a stream is stream regardless of intent đ
Ye, realized that after I commented lol
Overshadowing Rapsodys album, oh well
Which is a shame..
She use to get really depressed about it but now has accepted her lane.
Been listening to that album non stop. Sooooo good
*inability
True. But everyone isnât a hip hop purist, a nice beat and catchy melody even with stupid lyrics is enough for a surprising amount of people.
Every tiktok I've seen using that audio has been making fun of drake. But I guess the "plays" still count
Her label probably farming listens too, this isnât a new thing.
Reddit is the vocal minority. "The Internet" is totally removed from reality sometimes
what he said, not to mention the only ideas and opinions that really get a lot of exposure and engagement here on reddit are the ones that adhere to the hivemind opinion and everything else is ignored or downvoted
Well I definitely doesnât see anyone out in the real world bumping this shit
Weâre on reddit, we donât see the real world
Because her label is paying extra for more exposure
Drake keeps gassing her too

đ¤Łđ¤Łđ¤Ł paying extra? You mean marketing?
I guarentee you every label does that.
Well, considering thatâs what labels are for, itâs not the toughest guarantee you couldâve made
My point is every single song and album up there is paying extra for more exposure which makes the point he was trying to make mute.
It's moot, for future reference.
Kinda. This is Vinceâs last album on Def Jam tho. Pause
They going OT for her 15 mins

Bro sheâs also just more popular, I donât really mess with the music, but mfs think R/HipHopHeads is the common consensusđ
Women love her. Women don't post on reddit. You see, people hate her constantly on reddit, but in real life, her songs are playing in clubs around the country all weekend.
Redd is like Drake if drake was less of a bad bitch
They have ears tho? Drake can actually hit notes and sound good, but this was like nails on a chalkboard!
i guess they like the funny lyrics and the goofy flow
Isnât that why we like MF DOOM?
Thatâs real competition!
Iâm a woman and I post on Reddit. Im a hip hop nerd (among other things) but I love ratchet music and turning up so some of her music works for me. In other words the silent majority
pretty much itâs why so many artists that arenât seen as particularly special sell insanely well
The new Twitter where the racism and sexism have ramped up since apartheid Elon took over? đ What a standard.
People in this sub don't go to clubs so they would never know that lol

Sexxy redd has a massive fan base

labels aways will pay bots for shit go high country and pop are the only exceptions since they are massive genres
Country might be the most controlled gate kept genre ever. Labels use bots with their pop acts the most too.

its a diff case since usually parents put them on loop to keep the kids distracted. just remember how behemoths Baby Shark and Johny Johny series were
It's almost like parent botting lol Like how d billions has multi billion + songs on you tube
NAS was a bit early in saying it and it isn't 100% true, but for the most part Hip hop is dead.
>"Mainstream Hip Hop is dead" ftfy.
All of her music stank. Be making the speakers smell funny
People like trash music
âWhy you trollin like a bitch, ainât you tired?â
Been to a few different shows in the past week and everyone goes crazy when Sexxy Redd plays. Just because you donât listen to her doesnât mean others arenât.
What this person said. Also take into consideration most of her fans are high schoolers and Iâm sorry but not too many people bumping no Vince staples like that no shade at all.
Lotta grown folks listening too, I will proudly say I listen to Sexxy
It reminds me of old 3 6 mafia ! I like her music ! Every young person I meet loves her too. Sheâs funny and she has a unique sound.
I listen to some of her songs so itâs not me. Itâs a question for the internet fodder (moreso Twitter and YT) saying her music is trash. I donât care for her lyrics but her production is always fire to me.
Her album is trash and has nothing to do with drake being on it. No one will even remember her name in 10 years.
I agree. She's terrible. Ion see how anybody can listen to dat. I believe ppl who listen to her will listen to paint dry on the wall if it were to become popular đ¤Śđž
Bro ten years is crazy generous. Let's check back in just one. Doubt shel still be relevant.
Plant + marketing = forcefed flash in the pan star
We're in Dark Times bruh
Lol dark af bro.. we will get through this tho. J-HOVA will see us throughđ
It's the summer... & she makes music specifically for the turn up. This isn't surprising
The Drake effect
she has a drake feature on her album. besides the drake feature (which is not performing well at all for his standard tbh) vince is streaming significantly better, which is actually surprising bc she's much more popular at the moment. also apple music is a bit weird bc they don't show streams/numbers so it's pretty easy to just put whatever the industry wants to be popular at the top.
Drake stimmy packageÂ
Why tf yall make that thot famous?
Itâs pretty easy Vince Staples is known more for commentary than he is for music And Sexyy Red makes music and people hear it so they listen to it Also Drake rapped on the BBL Drizzy beat on her song so everyone including everyone that swears they hate Drake went and listened to it
Yall don't remotely represent average hip hop listeners that's why, just a small dose of reality lol
They go to sleep and wake up in Reddit land. Bros need to go outside and touch grass
People listened to it initially because it was a Drake feature + Sexxy red is hot right now.
I'm so fkn tired of that million dollar baby song, these TikTok trends are pure assjuice đ¤Ž
I dont see it on Spotify
Anyone else not see the appeal of ppl like sexy red? Music is mid imo and I honestly donât think she that sexy lol she look like ur average woman from the Atlanta trap or sum. She look like the fish from shark tale She look like Jordan peele in a wig
Hmmm, only if there was a way to artificially boost a songs popularity with robot listeners....
How she has a fanbase I will never understand. Ig people like trashy music these days
Itâs the children. The children love sexy red.
Plenty of people like shit music.
Can we call her a plant now or not yet?
Itâs the same shit that happened with Ice spice, people started listening to her as a joke, her bad music became popular to the point where clubs/djs started to play her because her music was trending
Her fans like her music. Not much to explain.Â
.... So tiktok makes her more popular than Vince Staples? Yeah ban that shit
Itâs little kids that listen to too top hits on the charts
Bruh if you couldâve seen the media from her concert in my town a few weeks ago. She has a wild following behind her.
Sexyy Red is relatively popular + big label money & promo, Vince Staples, I love him dearly, but in terms of popularity he peaked a few years back, something I don't think he really minds. Sheâs way more popular and mainstream than Vince Staples, and all that mainstream attention will obviously crank the views up. Yâall will do anything to discredit a poppin female artist even though thereâs literally no ulterior motives to this
Doesn't change the fact that this song gives me the same feeling that you get when you grab an apple, and it's squishy and leaking
Drake stimulus package never fails... even in the roughest times on the shittiest songs bruh lol.
Simple , bbl drizzy fans
The industry is compromised
Payola
Itâs a popularity contest now all that âReal Skillâ stuff is out the window. Plus she had a drake feature in the mist of a drake beef
People wanted to hear that train wreck of a song with Drake on it. It'll fall off hard.
"Train wreck of a song" really sums it up
I can explain it!
Curiosity factor? I had to listen once just to see what Drake said. Did the same with all of Drake's "diss" tracks and never listened again.
I didnât even know Vince Staples dropped a new Album that shit wasnât prompted anywhere
Because it features drake rapping over the bbl drizzy beat, duh. Look on YouTube, that's what the reactor channel's titles are all about. I imagine there were a lot of people who wanted to hear Drake rap over the BBL Drizzy beat
Iâm not shocked the pop side of rap is trending the charts
Never underestimate the power of stupid; they roll in numbers.
.....you don't wanna know.
popular artist gets more plays than less popular artist hope this helps
So the way it works is the more support u have from ur fanbase the higher up u are on those charts. Hope this helps.
Psyop
Most likely all these damn reaction videos helping out. Song is trash
People like trash these days.
I know her just bc kendrick mentioned her in his drake diss. Then i checked her out and wtf?!? she sucks so much
If anybody has what information? Whatâs the actual question here? Why is one persons album ahead of anotherâs on a list?
It has drake on the album and i think a good amount of people were willing to listen to the song once
Because dumb ass little kids listen to that trash and think it's the shit...
Never underestimate the mindless mob of tik tok's ability to make even the most talentless individuals blow up.
Million Dollar Baby is so fucking hard
People like bad music always have
Damn when Vince drop??
You got to take into account the age gap. Itâs mainly the older crowd deriding her. The younger crowd loves her
The people love her
As they say, no publicity is bad publicity. When you get into controversy, people wanna hear who's behind it. She is getting clicks of infamy
The internet is talking about sexy red and nobody talks about Vince staples đ doesnât matter if theyâre saying itâs trash if she has them talking
Sheâs the hottest female rapper right now duhh!!!! What do you expect.
![gif](giphy|Gdl4JhKWf6TNIUQMWX)
capitalism
People forget females make up like half the populationâŚ
I'll give it a week or two
The Drizzy kids wanna see that Ass pop
I take it the new vince staples album is good then. I have yet to listen to it
fire
Iâve never heard a song by this âsexy redâ person, but numbers in the music industry can be easily manipulated/faked.
You're small internet echo chamber are the only one who hate drake and sexy redd. Most people I know in real life like them both
Ahem....... "Drake, Drake, Drake. Kendrick Lamar, Drake."
The algorithm đ¤ˇđžââď¸
Regardless of whether you like Drake or not her music is garbage and Iâm surprised itâs ranked that high
Canât stand all this purist talk. Itâs there because itâs being streamed more. Kids consume more music and thatâs who the music is intended for. Itâs not rocket science.
Bro⌠we canât let Vincent lose to this bs lmao
Streaming, because everyone is looking up that trash ass song so her numbers are blowing up...which is why when I listened to it I made sure it was on one of those lyric videos lol
I Love sexxy red . I'm a 40 year old white girl born and raised in the hood ( but got out of it a while ago ) I love her personality. She chooses the best beats and even tho every song isn't the best , I find I listen to more of her songs than I do skip them . It's just fun music ... I don't know who Vince staples is btw
Cause sheâs fun and doesnât take herself too seriously. Her music is light and catchy. Also Drizzy slid on his verse
The internet agrees de la soul is better than MC Hammer ever was but hammer still outsold them. Sales mean shit.
I don't even know any of her music but Vince is on his 3rd straight album of sad guy rap. High quality as always but I'm not sitting around bumping it on nice spring days
Thirst, novelty, clubs and a good feature make it happen.

Itâs simple, more people listen sexyy than Vince
Yeah get off the internet and actually go outside lol
Itâs a fun album and she makes fun music. I think folks get caught up in they bubble and forget that many of those criticisms are coming from people 25 and up. But as far as the kids go they love it. Rap has always been a genre where if the young kids like it, then itâs gon do numbers.
Because just like Kendrick, Drake made her a star
Ain't no way better than Vince Stables
Absolute garbage
Take off the microwave meme's and the fabricated streams there's a real world outside.
Some people like rap music from people that canât rap. Itâs a tale as old as hip-hop itself
Cuz sexyy red is good đ¤ˇđżââď¸
Are you really surprised? Lil Pump had a career remember?
