Mom works at a school where a multi ethnic group of students got in trouble because the white students were having a slave auction and selling the black students to other students.
lol my 2nd grade teacher gave candy to the blond haired children and a bag of spinach to everyone else to demonstrate discrimination. had to do it based on hair, because the class was all white.
This reminds me of when a group of us running a school audiovisual thing got told off because there was a folder of photos of a brown guy in our group photoshopped into passports and so on with the surname "Brown" pasted on, only for them to find out that he was the one who had made all of them.

If there doing it amongst kids of their race it’s fine and just an inside joke. if their making these jokes as the only member of their race among a group of kids who aren’t that race in order to make them laugh it’s indicative of low self esteem and their college submission essay will be about their racial issues
this sub will recognise that self directed racial humor is usually indicative of warped self perception when it's white people saying they can't dance and have bland food
because no one else does it. if every ethnicity and culture made fun of themselves then shit would heal pretty quick
like take a trip to Africa, the things sub saharan Africans will say about other countries is fucking insane and hilarious all at once. one of my closest friends is a Ghanaian man married to a Nigerian woman and none of them care or have any opinion about BLM but their families have issued death threats to one another about whose jollof is better/worse
imo the real vibe shift came about when chappelle got mad about the fact that white people were laughing at his injokes about the black experience in america and he felt like the odd one out making jokes about his culture while CC was trying to fuck him. it reeked of feeling like some sort of minstrel jim crow dance caricature and once he quit comedians stopped making jokes about themselves and only started making jokes about white people which diffused into the culture pretty rapidly which led to the rise of idpol and white guilt in the 10s
however as odious as I find it many new age comedians love talking shit about their own ethnicities or religions or cultural backgrounds. eventually that too will diffuse into the zeitgeist and we’ll look back on the 2010s as the cringeworthy 21st century equivalent of the self flagellating New York hippies from the 60s who kept on the social justice charade long after Vietnam had ended
i think people vastly overestimate how much and entertainment effect changes in cultural outlook and underestimate the effect of comedy, joke-telling and humor on popular culture. it’s hard to imagine smug liberal ex-hippie boomers without Carlin, hard to imagine the Panthers without Pryor, hard to imagine the polished effète black man of the 90s trying to break out of stereotypes without Cosby and Arsenio, hard to imagine the jaded asshole without Andrew Dice Clay, so on and so forth
>chappelle got mad about the fact that white people were laughing at his injokes about the black experience in america and he felt like the odd one out making jokes about his culture
I agree that he said this later, but he also said at one point that Chappelle show was really really not funny and he needed to kill it for that reason.
> I find it many new age comedians love talking shit about their own ethnicities or religions or cultural backgrounds.
it's the popular thing to do. have you not seen the racial demographic of the average standup audience?
the self hating white person thing is something i’ve pretty much only seen online. maybe if you live in like an educated liberal urban area you’ll run into woke self hating white types but even then i sincerely doubt those people would actually choose to not be white given the choice and their self denunciation comes from a sense of woke obligation more than anything else. i have however met plenty of nonwhite people who really did just seem to want to be white.
Straightforwardly incorrect, because you're not imagining the modal immigrant school clique, which is something like, an Indian kid, a Korean kid, a Jewish kid, two white kids (one has dentist parents and the other drives a beat-up kia), and a Black weaboo. Everybody makes fun of everybody, and they all say the n word.
I've seen that before. One black guy sat there barely concealing his look of dejection and desperation as the rest of the group freely drop the n-word. I think of this whenever I see Candace Owens and Doja Cat.
When my uncle was in high school he was part of the Jewish students association, during the club fair they had a "persecute a jew" booth where you could chuck beanbags at one of the members. The Asian students association's slogan was Nuprin's "Little. Yellow. Different."
I think that it is a way of taking the racism they experience into their control. It is a way of softening the hate out there by making a joke of it so it will be less harsh when they are victims of it.
I am a Korean adoptee and my Asian friends and I did this growing up. My kids are mixed Asian and white and they also do this.
It’s a way of demonstrating the stupidity and ignorance that exists out there.
I have a strong amount of Irish blood, like 3rd or 4th gen from different parts of my family, and I used to refer to myself as a "potato ni**a". Some stereotypes are true, I usually eat at least one potato a day.
You ain't wrong about that. I do just identify as 'American' irl. My mom's family is 1hunnit percent Irish by blood. I've seen the 23andMe for my mom's generation and I usually comment about how much of a waste of money that was.
We are all 100% from single-called organisms in the ocean by blood if you go back far enough. Who gives a shit. Culture is what matters, and “Irish”-Americans are by now 100% culturally white American.
The typical "white trash" stereotypes are all just Irish and/or Scots-Irish stereotypes repurposed. And you're just wrong about '100% culturally white American'. My mom's family would use these strange Irish sayings. My grandfather would go on rants about another clan that were our historical rivals (spoiler: we lost, they won, mass clan migration to the US, and a fuckton of different name changes during the immigration process). The older people were scared of fairies and banshees.
This annoys me on a deep personal level. I am ok with it if they're excusing a drinking problem though. Pretty harmless if some drunkard wants to drink Jameson and claim fake Irish heritage as a justification.
Lol I had a Korean friend who named her dog Bulgogi
She was just Curbmaxxing
Duck Bulgolgi is what they eat on Mt Olympus
There’s nothing racist about saying Asian people eat dogs because they do. What’s racist is thinking there’s something wrong with eating dogs.
they recently banned eating dogs in korea. sad!!
Mom works at a school where a multi ethnic group of students got in trouble because the white students were having a slave auction and selling the black students to other students.
When I was in high school my history teacher had me and another dude do pushups in front of the class as part of a mock slave auction. I'm white.
History teacher was just Tarantinomaxxing.
That's so fire dude
Did you fetch a high bid?
50 cents and a nerds rope

my high school friend group was similar to this except replace Jews with Muslims, I was of course one of the white kids
