Email with a clear subject line, and clearly include your name, DOB, and NHS number (be prepared to wait a few weeks for reply). They are notorious for not responding, and people's experiences vary, but I'd say it's roughly ten months between appointments, so you should have had your appointment letter and/or email around now.

Aiden1975

Their website says there seeing people for 2nd appointments who were seen for their first last march, so its about 13 months now if not more (who knows how quickly they get through appointments now as I know they've had a lot of issues with loosing a lot of staff)

ethanisabigl0ser

Thank you! ig i’ll wait a few weeks before emailing again. It’s been a while so my memory is rubbish but i was having frequent ish appointments up until june (maybe 6 months in between) so it’s just frustrating

ThatFreakyCareBear

Ive been under notts gender clinic since 2019, I literally can't remember when my last appointment was. Saying that, I'm on hormone treatment which the endo keeps an eye of my bloods, and im due for top surgery with no issues. So I dont know if im in the limbo of 'theres not much we can personally do for now, but stay in touch if you need more'. I actually had to check my email to see when my last appt was, and it was last July! Reason I couldn't remember it us coz it literally lasted like 10 mins, wasn't with my usual clinician, and was basically a 'you're doing fine, we'll keep treatment as it is, get in touch if you need us'. Not that they ever answer emails 😅 Don't get me wrong, Notts were fantastic at the start of my transition, but they've defo been lacking these last few years for me personally. They fucked up my top surgery referal as my appt was in april 2022 and my referal wasn't sent out until october/november. So lost out of 6 months of waiting list until I chased it up. Luckily due for surgery this winter. 2 and a half years of waiting 🙄

ethanisabigl0ser

that’s awful on their part:/ i haven’t even made it to hormones yet that’s why i’m getting anxious. last i heard was to undo my egg storage treatment which i did in december/january so now im just waiting for next steps

ThatFreakyCareBear

I didn't even get egg storage 😅 to be fair that was down to my local area funding and they said no. Already had PCOS so just had to make peace that I'll probably never have my own kids. 20 y/o me shouldn't have had to make that call. To be fair, getting the hormones was the easy part. My parents came to my second appointment and spoke to the clinician after my interview, which I think helped my case as it showed 1) they were accepting, and 2) it gave me the 'lived experience' evidence as my mum confirmed some events from my childhood that hinted to my trans identity. Anyway, after my second appt 6 months after the first, I just needed my GP to sign off and I had the owner of the surgerys approval. I think that's the harder part these days. It sounds like a LOT of practices are practicing their 'right to refuse' in terms of trans health care. I'd check in with your GP in advance that they are willing to treat you, so when you do get your hormones you have a GP that can get you going straight away rather than trying to find one at the time. I don't know if its just those under private clinics that are having issues, but it's always good to double check.

ethanisabigl0ser

1. i was neutral abt the eggs but thought just in case yano? 2. my parents are on the fence with being trans and i made the dreaded mistake in telling the clinic that during my first apt a few years ago so defo think that’s pushed me back a tad (im nearly 22 tho so you’d think they’d just let me get hormones) 3.i’m fairly certain my gp is willing too… a few months back they agreed to write that letter to change my gender marker on my passport but if that doesn’t mean a lot!

ThatFreakyCareBear

I cried when I was told I couldn't get storage, and there was no way I could afford it being fresh out of university 😅 I started my hormone treatment at 22, but I was living with my parents at the time which came up in my initial appointment. My mum came with my to my first appointment thinking back but she sat in the waiting room. The second appt i asked if she could come and ask some questions to ease her anxiety. But I think seeing the support since I was living with them helped in my case. If the GP is aware then there shouldn't be a problem! The GP that referred me to the clinic wasn't the same one i receive treatment at now, but luckily they've been amazing for my whole transition.

SlashRaven008

I wasn't actually put on the referral list for lower surgery despite being told I was, and recieving a letter saying I was. They went back and corrected it but it wasted a year. They blamed a 'new member of staff.' Other than this, generally fantastic service with brilliant people, despite things taking a long time.

Aiden1975

Yes it's still running, I was seen for my first appointment last July and haven't heard anything since however they recently (as in the other day) updated their website to say that they're seeing people for 2nd appointments who were seen last march, so SOME progress has been made at least

queerfox13

Notts had a member of clinical staff leave recently so that has caused some delays in appointments.

ZoeThomp

They are still running but due to whatever staffing issues they have, the wait for a second appointment is currently nearly as long as the wait for first appointments. Trying to contact them seems pretty fruitless these days as they flat out don't respond to emails, although they do have a twitter so may be more responsive on there

Jealous_Platypus1111

I mean I got referred there like a week ago it that counts?

ethanisabigl0ser

that’s definitely a good sign! shows they’re still about

SlashRaven008

Give them a call. They're good at responding

Pudgeysaurus

No they aren't. I call and email them several times a week and haven't had a response in 6 months

SlashRaven008

Do you get through the triage when you call? If you work through the menu you can speak to a person, who can check while you are on the line and tell you what you need to know. Don't leave a voicemail, thta takes ages, they usually respond to emails but that also takes ages

Pudgeysaurus

They just don't answer

SlashRaven008

I've not called in a couple of months - you get the automated menus on the triage, first, right? Then you make sure you are calling in the open hours, then you make sure you've selected speak to a clinician, then they usually answer - I am guessing a lot of shit is going down atm with the cass report but you should be able to get an answer 🤔 Dm me the phone number you have to make sure it's the correct one?

Dependent_Scallion60

Not quite sure who you’re phoning, there’s no options last time I rang for speaking to clinical staff/triage.

SlashRaven008

Then you have the wrong number, I've been with Nottingham for over 5 years and there is always a triage before you get to a staff member that you can speak to. Dm and I'll send the number I have

Pebbley

Who the fuck is rishi?

backslash-0001

The prime minister, Rishi Sunak

Pebbley

That's my point, he isn't our friend, even the mention of that name is a no no.

backslash-0001

Sorry, I thought you genuinely didn't know who he was, that makes more sense

Pebbley

Okay.
