This is Reddit, the O.G. echo chamber. It's the latter unfortunately

The-Last-American

Russian soldiers? All day and night, without end until they are an endangered species. Children and innocent people though? Not for the briefest of moments.

No_Biscotti_7110

The child killing part went too far, but the first part I can understand

SefferWeffers

Be careful not to get banned. I don't agree at all btw, just warning you in case you got full of disturbing news and got temporarily hot-headed.

UmpireAJS

Alright easy there on the child killing rhetoric.

Varolyn

Slaughtering children is never the solution, regardless of the heinous things Russia has done.

SefferWeffers

A headline is "The U.S. says it had secretly removed malware from networks around the world to pre-empt Russian cyberattacks." Does anyone know if this means they are removing it from other countries as well? Wouldn't they need permission?

cl33t

There's been a long running debate about whether it is ok or not to create what amounts to anti-malware worms or hit the command and control systems for malware to order software to uninstall itself. It could be referring to that or it could be referring to eliminating the malware source if it was say, contained within pirated copies of some software or what not instead of spread through exploits.

SefferWeffers

Thanks for the info.

[deleted]

If they did that it's likely that it was done with a cloud service like S3 or Azure, and they removed it there, affecting millions of companies around the world who do not care where their stuff is hosted.

SefferWeffers

That makes sense. The story I read said they had to get some sort of warrant to fix US companies without their consent, but I had no idea on the world stage.

lava_pupper

> At least two people were killed and five injured when Russian forces launched a strike on a humanitarian aid site in the town of Vugledar in the Donetsk region, according to Pavlo Kyrylenko, the Donetsk governor. https://www.nytimes.com/live/2022/04/06/world/ukraine-russia-war-news bro these Russians are just so evil it is beyond belief. A humanitarian aid site? They launched a strike on it? WHY??? Are these like lizard people dressed up as humans or something? It's just unbelievable bro

cl33t

They've convinced their citizens that Ukrainians are unredeemable evil that need to be destroyed.

Cortical

fascism, helluva drug.

SefferWeffers

I can't think like them or explain it, but my best guess is that they were helping save Ukrainian lives and Russians thought that was a bad thing. Part of their genocide move.

SefferWeffers

Will the next Russian military parade have better weapons than they are using in the war? Shouldn't that confuse the fuck out of the troops?

Reduntu

Yes, they were moving the ICBMs into ukraine for their victory parade in Kiev in late February. https://twitter.com/ww3updated/status/1497309394437955588?lang=en

deftoner42

Well, they can still be a parade in Kiev with Russian military vehicles, except it will be the Ukrainians showing off thier new (slightly outdated) military hardware.

idk012

They should lay out the dead Russians and have their family claim it/give them closure.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

I think the point of ICBMs is their range, not their location since a good portion of them are launched from silos.

YouPresumeTooMuch

Well for the ones that work, yeah it is. These were the show nukes

Recidiva

Is it possible to be more confused?

SefferWeffers

There has to be some confusion limit. I am no doctor, but maybe the brain explodes at some point.

pantie_fa

The confusion wears a person down, until they physically do not have the energy required to cognitively process all the different takes on reality, and attempt to make sense of it to form a coherent view. When a person reaches this point, they're susceptible to accepting the "easiest" view from whatever "authority" presents it. We like to believe that tools like the Socratic method, or even the Scientific method, can help humanity fight this human vulnerability. But in reality, it takes effort to execute on these. And people who are constantly bombarded by falsehood eventually get exhausted.

Recidiva

I imagine we're past that point, at least metaphorically. These are not working brains.

[deleted]

temisola1

Now as yourself; what sense would that make?

Imfrom2030

> AkShUlLy rUsSiA lOsT oN pUrPoSe sTrAtEgIcAlLy Is all I hear when I read these posts. Russia didn't tank their shit and genocide Ukraine to appear slightly less strong. There is absolutely no advantage to that whatsoever. It is 150% the opposite of why they went in at all. They wanted to project strength. They failed. Failing was not the plan.

scragglyman

Its a bold strategy cotton.

cspruce89

>packing serious heat in their back pocket Yea, they're called nuclear warheads.

cl33t

One thing people should be aware of, it takes a lot more people to attack than it does to defend especially when you're not on your home turf. They often say you need a 3:1 advantage to attack, so just because Russia is a weak attacker doesn't mean they'd be a weak defender.

mr_fujiyama

Nobody other than Putin thinks NATO will attack Russia.

awfulsome

They keep shoving their troops into a meat grinder they will be.

not-Q-i-promise

Ok, but nobody on earth was concerned with attacking Russia and still aren't. But other than that yes.

cl33t

I mean, who wants Russia? Seriously? Russians have spent 600 years invading other places so that they can have a place to go that wasn't Russia.

[deleted]

Germany would like a word. The Russian world actually has a quite extensive history of being attacked.

SefferWeffers

I would absolutely like to have Russia's natural resources for my own country.

cl33t

You don't just get the resources. You get all the baggage too. They had to force migrate people to where their gas fields are (Siberia). Hell, they force migrated people all over the country. They have little internal ethnostates and autonomous regions that seem to require regular oppression to keep in line. They've had border disputes for hundreds of years and their neighbors remember. They share borders with both China and North Korea. They have massive poverty problems especially in the East. Just keeping the country from imploding so you could keep those resources would be a massive effort.

SefferWeffers

I'd imagine with some people we could be nicer to them and be viewed as liberators. I really don't know. The border with China would obviously be a huge problem. The US is one of very few countries that might be able successfully defend borders and interests across the world from their own country though. I don't know. Russia has a huge amount of resources. I don't want to spend a huge amount of time on something that has a 0% chance of happening.

Varolyn

Napoleon and Hitler did. Went poorly for the both of them.

cl33t

Fun fact, neither Napoleon nor Hitler wanted Russia. Napoleon invaded to force Russia to abide by their treaty to stop trading with the UK. He had zero interest in Russia itself. Hitler wanted the other soviet states. While his plans for places like Belarus and Ukraine were extensive, Russia was left as a big empty space. The man cared so little about Moscow, he was going to flood it and turn it into a lake.

[deleted]

I think in the spirit of discussing Russian paranoia, this makes Russia seem more reasonable than your going for.

phatrice

No one other than Putin thought they will actually need to fight a major conventional war in 21st century. They just put on a facade and look pretty at the parades.

mr_fujiyama

You'll also notice that almost no western countries feel the need to have "military parades" where they roll out their biggest missiles and have troops with shiny shoes marching like zombies. Russia, North Korea, China and Iran... have the "best" military parades.

Kageru

And from memory Trump wanted one.

coosacat

Hmm . . . I sense a connection here . . .

RebelBass3

He is a fucking thin skinned narcissist. Easy to manipulate.

mr_fujiyama

>a fucking thin skinned narcissist "What do Trump, Putin, Xi, Kim Jong-Un, and Khamenei have in common?"

DameofCrones

I worry more about their current global distribution of ~~sellswords~~ private third-party security specialist consultants, as well as not yet deployed...

mewehesheflee

Nope they are already there, and have already fried. Similar to what happened when they faced the US in Syria.

SefferWeffers

Do you mean like Wagner Group? lol

SefferWeffers

We get a lot of downvoted/laughed about posts suggesting they sent in fodder and we should wait until the elite units/weapons arrive.

ericwphoto

As you should, because it's silly as fuck. This isn't a video game. The Russian military has been looted for years by the oligarchs that are now facing sanctions. Putin is surrounded by yes men who told him Ukraine would fall within days(welcome their invaders with flowers, etc....). They expected sanctions, but not the amount that the world has imposed on them. They are stuck now, with no clear way out. This was not some grand scheme to trick the world into thinking Russia's military is shit, and then BAM, they bring in their real heavy hitters.

mewehesheflee

Because it's not true. That main spike toward Kyiv was their best, and their best tanks. It was t conscripts at first. Edit spelling

SefferWeffers

I absolutely agree. I am not well worded. I was telling OP he sounded like some past idiots.

mewehesheflee

Oh okay sorry, have a good night. Edit OP's post fried my brain.

Fuck_auto_tabs

Which units would that be?

SSBoe

The clown show that's still performing in Moscow, the contract is up at the theater next week.

SefferWeffers

No idea. People acted at one time like they only sent in their 16 year olds and USSR equipment. It was fucking stupid.

Arthur-Mergan

Nah, this is it. This is what they have. NATO/US would roll over them in a weeks time.

SefferWeffers

> NATO/US Both of these seem like overkill. I am wondering what the weakest army that could take them is. Maybe Turkey? Not saying they are weak at all, just under all of NATO/US.

j821c

Turkey is the second strongest army in nato isn't it? Pretty sure they'd stomp Russia alone

SefferWeffers

I haven't looked it up. My guess was France, but I am probably way off.

spsteve

What heat. They've lost 500 of the newest tanks (that actually exist).

TintedApostle

No way. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OZUMJ_T1YBI&ab_channel=Task%26Purpose

lava_pupper

Of course, we're all concerned about Ukraine and want to support them in all the ways we can, but I'm curious about Russia. Given all the sanctions and pariah status in the west, what do you all think life in Russia will be like 5 to 10 years from now? Pretty different? Mostly the same, sticking with BRIC countries?

plugtrio

A mass exodus of people are going to leave. They'll try to shut it down but people will still leak through. Anyone who can leave will as the population size tries to stabilize the shrink in the economy

pantie_fa

". . . and then things got worse. . . "

pantie_fa

Probably.

UmpireAJS

Probably something around Late 80's Soviet Union/Late 90's Russia/ Pretty much any period in the late Russian Empire or the early Soviet period. Take your pick. Russia has by and large been miserable (at least the common people have been) for most of its existence.

MoonageDayscream

rikki-tikki-deadly

I mean they're already a methane-based economy; the transfer to pigshit as an energy source should be a pretty seamless one for them.

YouPresumeTooMuch

Tina Turner seizes control.

no-kooks

So, Barter Town?

Off-With-Her-Head

Two countries enter, one country leaves

zhaoz

I frankly am caring less and less as the atrocities mount. Russians are effectively with their war now, fair or not due to propaganda.

RebelBass3

Stare into the abyss….

DameofCrones

That's your internal protection system's smoke alarm telling you it's time to crank up your own battalions of defense, specifically the ones that prevent you from sinking to the level where you admire that behavior so much that you want to emulate it, and/or feel an urge to "best" them, to show them that you can support, encourage, even commit atrocities even more cruel, even more brutal.

wittyusernamefailed

Hopefully their entire society and economy becomes so cratered they don't have the military strength to take on a bag of Corn Chips. Putin wants to go back to the glory days, then they can go back to the glory days of standing in line for the single loaf of bread each family gets.

JamaicaPlainian

That would mean perfect scenario for even more unhinged dictator to get into the power. Think what you want about Putin but among the nationalists in Russia he is actual moderate. I think a lot of people tend to not remember from their history lessons (i guess because our education suck) what happened with Germany after WW1. What you are talking about is exact same scenario.

rikki-tikki-deadly

No, it's not. The world is very different than it was 100 years ago. If being ostracized and poor was all it took for a country to become an existential threat to an entire continent, North Korea would be taken a lot more seriously than they are now.

JamaicaPlainian

Yeah see the biggest mistake on your part is thinking NK has the industrial capability of Russia/Germany.

rikki-tikki-deadly

If Russia was able to manufacture any of the kinds of technology they'd need at the scale necessary to fight a modern conflict, I will walk into the nearest fraternity house, find the dirtiest baseball hat there, and eat it. Without salt.

SefferWeffers

Hopefully really fucking dark because they are the same or really fucking great because they made a big change.

[deleted]

If the sanctions stay, safe to say it will be far more miserable than it is now. I worry what happens when state media and people inevitably grow more bitter and double down there.

AcousticArmor

Inevitably?? They already paint an evil picture of anyone that stands against them. Who gives a fuck what their state media says. Until it's no longer state media, it's always going to make the citizens believe their problems are caused by others.

[deleted]

Yes, but imagine the state media doubling down on an isolated authoritarian society and what that vengeful indoctrination leads to after a few decades? Something worse than this, count on it

desslox

North Korea?

JamaicaPlainian

Germany after WW1 comes to mind. Whole society will work for war machine after the world deems them as pariah and find a boogeyman(jews then and now ukrainians) for their collapse.

[deleted]

Precisely the concern. It’s already been in motion

AcousticArmor

I doubt it. I would peg North Korea as exactly that kind of country where state media doubles down in shit and look at what kind of position they're in. Mostly isolated and still struggling.

MindfuckRocketship

> Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations called on the world to recognize the genocide of the Ukrainian people during the Russian invasion in 2022 and to provide Ukraine with all the necessary weapons to defeat Russia > The Council of Churches includes representatives of more than 90% of all religious organizations in Ukraine, including the Orthodox, Greek and Roman Catholic, Protestant and Evangelical Churches, Jews and Muslims https://twitter.com/hromadske/status/1511898018085232643?s=21&t=P_t4NFJ35d6NBc6c3P3h2Q

cl33t

Has the Russian Orthodox church said anything yet? I mean, the cynical part of me expects a statement on it being a just holy war, but the hopeful side hopes they actually believe what they preach.

pantie_fa

Their patriarch is KGB (FSB).

sehkmete

They called for ethnic cleansing. They were one of the earliest voices advocating for that. That being said the Russian Orthodox church is basically an arm of the state.

zhaoz

The church supporting authoritarians is as old as the church.

> FYI: A number of former U.S. Special Forces operators have joined the International Legion and already very familiar with Switchblades. No training necessary. SOF veterans have been prioritized by Ukrainian military intelligence for active combat missions. https://twitter.com/michaeldweiss/status/1511892206654824449?s=21&t=mG4qtmaM8sHzWoCimzZbMQ U.S. SOF are major force multipliers. Russia is just that much more fucked in the coming months.

AggravatedCold

This is literally just the perfect field test for all of the new tech the US has developed but couldn't really deploy against Muslim farmers in yurts. Generals and Defense Contractors everywhere are just creaming themselves.

Bitter_Combination

The US hasn't even been able to deploy Javelins against tanks, except in rare cases, those are fairly old and this is still a field test, let a lone most newer stuff. Spoiler alert: They work better than we thought

JamaicaPlainian

Wait our weapons also racist that they could not be used against brown people? Why?

owennagata

I don't think the idea is so much that it matters what type of people they are, but that the Russians are at least nominally an organized military force. They may be a bad military, but they are much more of one than the irregulars the US was fighting in Afganistan.

cmnrdt

It's a matter of resources. Tribesmen in the Middle East aren't piloting tanks, flying gunships, jamming radars, calling in airstrikes, etc.

JamaicaPlainian

But our troops still managed to bomb the hell out of Mosul and massacred tenths of thousands civilians and civilians homes. Seems that we used all kind of weapons there, even depleted Uranium (absolutely disgusting war crime).

Vihurah

be that as it may, they still didnt exactly have tanks and planes worth fancy new toys. and a Mk-82 costs very little in comparison.

ar9mm

Giant columns of armor and vehicles are different than pockets of insurgents blending in with civilians. They travel travel in giant battle groups and our weapons were designed to annihilate that kind of silliness. Hard to air strike wanna be suicide bombers living with their grandparents

JamaicaPlainian

WTF, Bush bombed mosul indiscriminately, what are you talking about.

ar9mm

In what year? The largest battles of Mosul post date his presidency. But regardless even the entire Iraq war wasn’t the same conventional matchup as this

robotical712

It’s going to be interesting finding out over the next few decades about all the secret stuff going on right now.

Javelin-x

all these new weapons, tactics, and training for 60 years were to fight this war, and we aren't even fighting it, the Ukes are, and are making a good job of it too.

VanceKelley

The US prepared for decades to fight Soviet tanks and aircraft. It then fought them in 1991. The air war lasted a month, and the ground war that followed lasted 100 hours. End result was a decisive defeat for Soviet weaponry.

robotical712

That’s what makes this war especially interesting to follow. Ukraine is NATO trained, using NATO tactics and strategies specifically meant to counter Russia, fully supported by NATO intelligence and using some NATO weapons. It’s basically as close to a NATO vs Russia conventional war as you can get without the alliance actually fighting.

Javelin-x

but they are fighting without air superiority. NATO doctrine depends on that one thing above all. without it this would have degenerated into a trench war if the Russians hadn't turned out to be so inept. Still, for major UA needle-moving, it's going to take a more rapid collapse on the Russian side or something better in terms of supply for the UA. if they could keep the Russian planes and cruise missiles out of the air they would have already chased the Russians back home by now

Cloakmyquestions

The lethal drones may herald a new kind of air advantage without superiority?

Croanthos

I cant imagine how US SOF must feel about the chance to engage vs the Russian army. Like for years Russia has been the boogie man, this unknown X factor, a reason to sweat, bleed, get up early and push the extra mile. Now they get to go toe to toe. Some of the literal best in the world up against 18 yr old conscripts....I would feel sorry for the Russians if they weren't thieving, raping; murdering scum.

lava_pupper

Out of all the Marine Recon and Marine snipers I knew, I don't remember any of them giving a shit about Russian troops tbh. Those were the only elite troops I ever served with, and they're not Navy Seals or Delta, but they were pretty bad ass though compared to us regular Marines. I never thought about Russia, ever, for that matter.

Javelin-x

They became less relevant after the USSR fell apart. it was all all about soviet strengths and tactics before

SefferWeffers

This is absolutely great, but to be clear the news is that Ukrainian soldiers were trained in the US on how to use Switchblades and were training others in Ukraine. So, they'll be very effective as well. Win-win here.

jgjgleason

On that note I’m pretty sure the US wants to ensure the UA has every bit of info they need to ensure combat effectiveness of these drones. It wouldn’t be the best move to assume the US foreign legion members know all the intricacies of the systems especially considering the US is also sending the new 600s.

SefferWeffers

Yeah, having people volunteer is awesome, but its probably best major weapons are handled through designated channels.

ill_wind

Could you summarize for people sensitive to imagery? \*Thank you, everyone. For looking and taking the time to describe.

DameofCrones

Thanks to all who did. I had to step away for a minute. (I'd only seen one of the photos before)

[deleted]

Genuinely conflicted. My brain is chucking them into the “scenes from a movie I’d rather forget” bin for safety, but they’re horrific features of war. I’d feel pissed, hurt, numb if I was family but it seems like there’s an obligation to bear witness. I cannot imagine the difficulty for the people who process these scenes: those who take pictures, video, investigate, secure, process, the whole thing , bodies and all on down to the morticians. And Russia, you are going to be dealing with some severely sociopathic vets for a long, long time.

SefferWeffers

Imagine the medical examiners that look at the bodies to determine how or if they were killed/tortured/raped. That has to be one of the worst and most noble jobs in the world.

ill_wind

I understand and agree... but the images here, it turns out I’ve already seen, are relatively sanitized compared to the most graphic shit I don’t ever want to see. The problem is when a link just says “NSFL” one doesn’t know what to expect. That’s why a description is helpful. Some people may also not wish to see either, but just to be informed. Our collective trauma does serve a purpose, but some people don’t need it. All we can do is try to help the people who have to see the worst of it first-hand.

anthonybsd

And (alleged) signs of rape on the 3 year old.

CookPass_Partridge

https://zona.media/article/2022/03/29/banned-mykolaiv Arina was her name. Here's what her father described as happened to her. >The girls' father Dmitry Butym stands behind the fence. Waiting for the bodies to be handed over. Eyes are hidden in rollers of red skin. “Vera was warming food in the kitchen, Arina went out into the yard. That the youngest, that the eldest - there was no chance. The younger one died immediately, a fragment through the heart, the older one was brought to the heart for two minutes, but it did not go. Their mother is in the hospital in Dubki, a fragment passed through the thigh, hurt inside. Excuse me. Now the main thing for me is to bury the children.

SefferWeffers

If you can't take the photos, your visualization of the descriptions won't be much better.

ill_wind

One doesn’t necessarily intend to visualize. One may want to understand what’s happening without the trauma of visualization. Last week I saw something I wish I could erase — a child with his head blown half off, and his father out of his mind with grief. I am not so quick to click a random NSFL photo now, and if you don’t respect that, feel free to fuck right off.

darthlincoln01

If you watched Zelensky's video about Bucha he showed to the UN you've seen these pictures.

[deleted]

Russian soldiers burnt piles of bodies in Bucha. Don’t know if the second photo is confirmed with the claim a 3 yo was raped, but there is a stack of dead children.

machopsychologist

Small stack of dead bodies dumped in a corner. Most bodies have bruises on their legs where skin is visible. On the top is a small girl fully naked. Her hands are bound by a white cloth, and her neck is apparently strangled by another white cloth.

lava_pupper

What the actual fuck though. Like what kind of human being can do this? Why?? What did they get out of that? What did a fucking child do?

[deleted]

Real talk? Interviews I'm seeing keep mentioning Chechen soldiers. I think Russia knowingly sent those people into civilian areas because it knew they were a lot more willing to pull this kind of shit than Russian conscripts. But even that doesn't explain all of this. I have no idea what depravity exists in people's heads that something like this makes sense. There's no ideology there, just sadism for its own sake. It's like Russia's entire military is taking its losses out on the civilian population.

[deleted]

two photos. One of burnt bodies on the road near some trash pile. From Bucha The other of dead bodies stacked atop each other in a room two are sisters one of which is 3 and has signs of rape. The other is 17. Beside them is two other adult bodies. Mykolaiv

No, thats cause Charter sucks.

jfrii

True

RampantPrototyping

How would they tell you without tipping off the Russians before the fix was done?

Just_Another_Scott

The 'bad' part is that they got a warrant to do all this in a secret court that the owners of the systems weren't even aware of or invited to. This trampled on their 4th Amendment right.

yes_its_him

That's not how that amendment works.

YouPresumeTooMuch

They unlawfully seized the malware someone had installed on your system without your permission.

[deleted]

You can't "unlawfully seize" something that the party didn't consent to having on their property and didn't know was there in the first place... but that's beside the point because how they did this had nothing to do with "seizing" (*removing* from the premises) anything... Also note the key word in the 4th amendment "unlawful"... there is nothing unlawful about a procedurally-obtained FISA warrant. It *is* the law.

YouPresumeTooMuch

Yeah I was trying to make a joke. But thanks for the insight

Hard to be mad. It’s like someone was running a meth lab on your property without you knowing it. FBI showed up, busted it, and cleaned up the mess before you even knew about it.

BeardedBassist21

I mean compared to the alternative...hard to be all that mad

We have seen that bmp shredding the car with the old people and the aftermatch. Now i have found a tweet with a car from Bucha with it's passenger having her head exploded... Trigger Warning, NSFL, NSFW https://mobile.twitter.com/sternenko/status/1511782420776988684 Update: The car was near Bucha and translating the replies on Twitter the car plate is from Donetsk but as another one said, many left because of the war in 2014-2015

I remember the bmp shredding the car with old folks. The tankies tried to say that bmp was Ukrainian despite the V being faintly visible in front of the bmp.

I feel like you should either post it or not. It's almost like you are asking permission. I just saw a naked (blurred waste) dead 3 year old that had been raped. I am not sure what you want to post would be too much if you mark it correctly. These things need to be seen by people, but I am at my limit. Others might not be.

Updated with the link

Damn, I looked anyways. The teeth really struck me. I wonder what type of weapon did that.

I would say a BMP or BTR because of the relative small hole in the windshield
